“ The Hunger Games”(2012-2015) as known is arguably one of the most controversial and gender stereotyped movie in Hollywood. It is a fictional movie that targeted children. The movie portrays hardship in a rural area of a country, even though it is a fictional movie. The Hunger Games also tackles arguably one of the most controversial topics in the world “ Gender Stereotype”. In the society we live in nowadays people tend to be biased in thinking that men do better at being an action-figure in movies whereas, women are supposed to be a romantic-type figure. However, in “ The Hunger Games” the cast clearly challenges this idea of gender stereotype by establishing Katniss( Female) as an action figure and Peeta( Male) as frail. The movie’s targeted audience were children. Children are easy to impress, also they take a movie message very seriously. The best way to spread the message in your society is through a movie that targets children. However, the idea is known to be controversial and the way it works is children want to watch the movie and the parents get dragged into watching the movie. As we know Hunger Games was a perfect persuading trilogy. When the movies came out it had a good production value and a lot of people liked it. However, after watching the movie it was ok all of a sudden for people to read a book with a female protagonist. According to an article by Empowering boys “ Divergent, the latest YA actioner with a teen girl protagonist, drew crowds which were 41% male, similar to The Hunger Games(39%) and quite a departure from Twilight (25%)”.
