Throughout centuries women have been discriminated and stopped in multiple situations from achieving what they want, while at the same time men have gotten the upper hand and almost always fulfilled their goal in life. Sadly, this is not a coincidence. The reason behind this is gender discrimination. In life each individual has an American Dream they want to accomplish, whether it is being the founder of a company, or just living a stable life with a family. However, not all can manage to carry out their goal. The American dream is not possible for everyone because of certain obstacles that obstruct ones path, such as gender.

While, men also might have the same jobs and put in more or less the same effort in order to get the job done, they eventually get paid more than their female colleagues. The writers explain that “the gender gap in pay has narrowed since 1980, but it has remained relatively stable over the past 15 years or so. In 2017, women earned 82% of what men earned, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of median hourly earnings of both full- and part-time workers in the United States. Based on this estimate, it would take an extra 47 days of work for women to earn what men did in 2017.”(Graf, Brown, Patten 1). This 2018 statistic discusses the pay gap between men and women and how it is due to the large impact the influence of specific gender still has on our industries. The authors also used the phrase,“based on this estimate, it would take an extra 47 days of work for women to earn what men did in 2017.” Although a female may be putting in a tremendous amount of effort, dedication and time, she will be viewed subordinate to a male.
