The war of gender equality has been in existence throughout history and it is only until recently that it is being taken seriously. It was not until the 19th and 20th centuries that women have pushed to make their rights on the same level as men. Through the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities, Feminism was formed around this time and those involved with it have changed history since they first started. Feminism has been through three waves, each with their own set of goals and ideas they had wished to accomplish throughout those times. In spite of this, there are those who oppose their views and feel as if the feminists have accomplished nothing. Even if discrimination of women still exists, feminists have come close to accomplishing their goal of equal rights between genders through the passing of women’s suffrage, equal education opportunities, and equal pay. The right to vote was one of the first major steps to achieve equal rights. Feminism has had three waves and the first started formally at the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848 with a focus on suffrage (Rampton, Pacificu.edu). Suffrage is defined as the right to vote which, as a part of politics, became very important. Women felt that if they gained the right to vote, they would also be able to gain further benefits and advances to improve living and working conditions for women (Scan.org.uk). At the same time, the world was changing and so was the status of women. As a result, women began to feel more motivated to contribute to society and not maintain their current position that society had seen fit for them. Women began to come together to achieve a goal they had in common despite their wealth or class. They have achieved many things they have set out for and continue to fight to maintain them as well. Feminists have set it to where even men can be positively affected by these acts, whether it is for work, relationships, or any other things. It sets both genders on an equal scale to cooperate with one another. Some receive the wrong idea about feminists and their values but feminism is not about hating men. It is not about losing your femininity. It is about equality. Which is something that we still need (Peck, telegraph.co.uk). In short, Equal rights continues to be debated as disputes still occur regarding the topic but feminists have made it so if a major issue between genders occurs once more, women will have a louder voice, a more educated opinion, and valid sources to back themselves up.

Whereas the women’s suffrage movements focused mainly on overturning legal obstacles to equality, the feminist movements successfully addressed a broad range of other feminist issues. The first dealt primarily with voting rights and the latter dealt with inequalities such as equal pay and reproductive rights. Both movements made vast gains to the social and legal status of women. One reached its goals while the other continues to fight for women’s rights.
We’d all like to believe that we are equals within our society, but democracy doesn’t necessarily ensure equality. We all must work for a living, and the constitution would have you believe that racial minorities and women would have equal opportunities and equal wages as white men. But this is not the case. For many years people, mainly girls and women, have fought to equalize genders with some success, specifically in the work force. Gender inequality is not only a historic issue but one that still exists today in the form of the gendered pay gap.
Gender inequality specifies to unequal treatment or approach of individuals based on their gender. It occurs from differences in socially constructed gender roles as well as biologically through chromosomes, brain structure, and hormonal differences. In 2006, the World Economic Forum introduced The Global Gender Gap Index. It is a framework that captures the magnitude and capacity of gender-based disparities and tracking their progress. The index measures national gender gaps on political, economic, education and health based criteria, and provides country rankings that allow for effective comparisons across regions and income groups, over time. The rankings are mainly designed to create a greater awareness among a global audience of the challenges posed by gender gaps and the opportunities created by reducing them.
In the United States, the feminist movement was a civil rights issue that sought to establish equality for women. The movement aimed to transform the lives of women in American society and exerted a profound global effect throughout the twentieth century. Today, individuals who support this movement are identified as feminist: an ideology that all individuals should identify with. There were many women who fought for female equality, and many who didn’t care, but eventually the feminists won the vote. Women today are still fighting for equality in the home, in the workplace, and in society as a whole, which seems like it may take centuries of more slow progress to achieve.
Women have struggled for their equality and political franchise for a long time. They tried to break their traditional role as the housewife and deserve the same rights and responsibilities as men. However, when the Fifteenth Amendment granted African American men, but not women, the right to vote, the women’s rights activists became more enraged and disappointed for lacking equality and political rights. In a society where equality is constantly fought over, there are bound to be disputes. Feminism, the movement to create empowerment and equal rights for women, has been criticized by those who argue who, what, and how feminism should be fought with. Many conservative feminists believe that succumbing to men’s pleasure is never the answer, whereas “lipstick” feminists believe that they should be able to use all of their essence in order to establish equality. However, society needs both women and men equally. Feminism shouldn’t focus on how women reach that equality, but rather to reach that point of equality in the first place; with anything they got.
The entire Women’s Movement in the United States has been quite extensive. It can be traced back to 1848, when the first women’s rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. After two days of discussions, 100 men and women signed the Declaration of Sentiments. Drafted by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, this document called for equal treatment of women and men under the law and voting rights for women. This gathering set the agenda for the rest of the Women’s Movement long ago (Imbornoni). Over the next 100 years, many women played a part in supporting equal treatment for women, most notably leading to the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which allowed women the right to vote.
However, women, like so many other groups, have gained legal rights to face less institutional, but more subtle forms of discrimination. The idea that women are equal because of women’s rights is, in my opinion, valid in some ways and invalid in other ways. Traditionally, women have been regarded as inferior to men physically and intellectually. Women could not possess property in their own names, participate in business ventures, or control having children if they wanted them or not, or even control their own lives. The Feminist movement dates from 1848, when Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Coffin Mott and others who were at a women’s convention in Seneca Falls, N.Y. issued a declaration of independence for women, demanding full legal equality, full educational and commercial opportunity, equal compensation, the right to get paid and the right to vote.
Feminists all around assure that the main reason they are fighting so hard is to uphold equality and endorse a sense of humanity into those who think women are beneath them. Although many agree with this 100%, there is a major flaw within it as some women are truly fighting for something titled as women’s rights rather than equality. To see a positive response and a progressive change within the world, feminists should be fighting for individual rights as human beings rather than as women. The only way that the valid idea of ‘human’s rights’ can be viable is to completely abolish ‘men’s and women’s rights’. Within the past decade, this movement has grown and molded itself into many things, but the reason it is not progressing is because men are beginning to believe that women are doing things to gain favor or to receive perks, even though that was not the initial objective. This becomes a bigger issue when the feminist movement does not separate themselves from the typical radical feminist—which causes a stereotype to all others whom are not linked with
If there is one thing that affects all African regardless of class, it is the nature of safety within the continent. Has crime continue to grow as a method of income we find that it is a way in which Africa is also further pushed into turmoil. Most African nations suffer from constant armed robberies. Everyday citizens are provoked by groups of young men and women wielding guns and threaten lives in whatever it is they want to take (Rwomoire, 2001). There is no safety within one's home there is no safety outside of it. Of course the issue is not one-sided, seeing as a criminal is only as strong as the system which prosecutes them. Iron Out the Past Gender inequality has become a social issue in the U.S. and has been discussed multiple times. The social issues of men and women all have different roles in their lives. There have been traditional roles that have been ways of doing what both genders should do, but there will be criticism when they cross the line. Therefore, gender inequality is already socially constructed in the past, and this problem still happens now. There is a huge pay gap between both genders and males will always get paid more than females even if they are in the same position.

In 1848, in Seneca Falls, New York, 68 women and 32 men sat down at the first women’s rights convention to sign a Declaration of Sentiments to call for equal treatment of men and women under the law and voting rights for women (Imbornoni para 2). This is where feminism all began. From 1848 until 1920, many women, and even men, fought for the rights of women around the country. They fought for equality and liberty and in 1920, the 19th amendment was finally passed allowing women the right to vote (Imbornoni para 15). This was a major milestone in the women’s rights movement. Susan B. Anthony once said “Men, their rights, and nothing more; women, their rights, and nothing less.” (Susan B. Anthony para 1). If only feminism were the same today it wouldn’t be a bad connotation and would still be a positive movement. This is because many of those associated with feminism today no longer see the need for equality. Instead, it seems they are looking for superiority. Modern-day feminists in America do not see how well women are doing today, and they instead fight for justice for their victimhood that they still see themselves in. They also fight against the prominent wage gap claiming that women are being discriminated against in work place.
