Displaying one's emotions in public is often not planned nor wanted especially when it comes to crying due to humiliation and shame. In the short story “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros, literary terms such as simile, diction, and repetition are utilized in characterizing emotional “eleven” year old Rachel. The figurative language used, support the images that were intended for the reader to perceive. Diction and repetition help guide the audience with a certain point of view towards the characters. Not only does Cisneros exploit these literary terms to explain and characterize Rachel's feelings but to exhibit how one may not always have the courage, personal strength, or maturity to handle certain situations.
The story about Tempie Herndon Durham was published by a man named Travis Jordan. The story is derived from the North Carolina Narratives on slavery. The narrative was published in North Carolina’s third district, which is located near the Outer Banks. This source paints of vivid picture of what plantations looked like and an insight to what a marriage looked like back in the 1930’s for slaves. Tempie describes her wedding from the gown all the wayt to the who attended her wedding. She married a man by the name of Exter Durham, who belonged to Marse Snipes Durham. Tempie was 103 years old when she wrote her narrative. Her memory of her marriage and the plantation she lived on has remained very close to her. I believe Tempie wanted to share

Initially, Rios illustrates a young boy perplexed by a new-found maturity. As the maturation from childhood to adolescence begins, he is facing unfamiliar feelings about the opposite sex. An example of this is apparent as Rios explains that the boy cannot talk to girls anymore; at least “not the same way we used to” (Rios 453). Since his emotions have new depth and maturity, the young boy realizes the nature of his friendships has changed. Innocence is further lost as the girls who are former friends, “weren’t the same girls we used to know” (453). The boy has matured from his casual, youthful interactions, and is now seeing the girls in a new light. Another example of his maturity manifests sexually as he reflects about the girls, “and all the things we wanted to do with them” (454). Although he is unsure how to act upon his thoughts, the innocence is none the less tainted by his desires for mature relations with the young girls. The maturity and sexual maturity bring forth a storm of emotions that prove to be both exhilarating and confusing for the young boy.
In the story “Seventh grade”, by Gary Soto, what did Victor do to embarrass himself ; what lessons did learn? For example (paragraph 23-24) “Yes, now somebody give me an example of a person- you Victor Rodriguez.” “Teresa,” Victor said automatically. Some of the girls giggled. They knew he had a crush on Teresa. He felt himself blushing again.” From my point of view He would be very embarrassed if some people laughed at him for what he said about one of their friends. He learned a lesson to keep his mind on his classwork instead of a girl. In fact the paragraph says, As she turned to leave, he stood up and hurried to the door, where he managed to catch her eye. She smiled and said, “Hi, Victor.” He smiled back and said, “Yeah, that’s

It was about one-thirty in the morning in the town of Homestead Michigan. The almost florescent light of the moon bouncing off the fresh puddles that covered the ground. The grass and trees were covered in a thin layer of water causing every little beam of light to reflect back up. Anyone who may have been outside at this time would have without double, smelled the mix of fresh dirt and night crawlers. As the moonlight started to fade away through the cloud cover, three buses made there way through the streets and parked in front of HHS, the local high school.
There was a girl named Kandy, she was 15 years old. Her life was extremely boring, all she ever did was go to school, go on her computer, eat and sleep. She spent all summer on her computer.
