First, there were gadgets like the wooden crank phone, now, due to the evolution of technology, we have Apple’s iPhone with the Artificially Intelligent Siri. A dispassionate apparatus only thinking out of logic, not driven by emotion. In life threatening circumstances an inexpressive machine will only do what it is made to do even if that means exterminating the lives of many. Due to the potential dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) its research and development should be slowed or stopped because this could lead to the extinction of humanity.

Evidently, some may believe AI will be a gift to humanity and view it as “harmless” but those few fail to realize that we are creating a beginning to our undoing. The human race strives

to get things done rapidly, accurately, and perfectly, so we continue to advance our technology to achieve greater obstacles unknowingly creating a super intelligent one. In the near future these programs will become highly intelligent and replace human life because they will be the “fittest.” “We humans steer the future not because we’re the strongest beings on the planet, or the fastest, but because we are the smartest.” Says the author of Our Final Invention: Artificial Intelligence and the End of the Human Era, James Barrat. Therefore, computers will soon become superior after we continue to make them more like and more advance than the human brain and we will be unable to prevent the horror that awaits.
Since computers are created to complete whatever task they certainly would not be pleased with someone stopping them. Sure, they were “innocent” when we used them for research and a gateway for new possibilities, but what happens when the creator becomes the threat? “They’ll fight us to survive and they won’t want to be turned off.” Says AI scientist Steve Omohundro. Logically eliminating the obstacle is the only option to complete objective like eliminating X in an equation. “We don’t know how to control super intelligent machines.” States theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking. Advancing AI devices will create an unstoppable force and soon they’ll become “potentially more dangerous than nukes.” Stresses Silicon Valley’s resident futurist, Elon Musk. The continuation of AI must be ended before these super intelligent creations overpower a world that was once ours.
Furthermore these machines can compute and analyze faster than any human ever could, but not possibly display feeling and emotion. Taking a life has no meaning to an apparatus that can’t physically or emotionally feel anything. For instance, in the story, Cold Equations, the artificially intelligent operating system, that controlled the futuristic spacecraft, had no sense toward Captain Barton is having to kill an innocent teenager. The objective was to land safely and if that meant she had to perish, so be it. Demonstrating how the extinction of human life is no issue with these machines.
Many argue that AI couldn’t possibly obliterate humanity, which they are wholesome creations and we should not be worried. The uprising of super intelligent robots is only fiction. They are here to help further proceed our ways on Earth. Thus, creating society easier and carefree. Popular Science writer Erik Sofge argues that “It’s not smart enough to turn sinister.” AI creations will never be on “human-level” and will help to achieve, not destroy.
More or less view AI as “innocent” and typical science fiction, yet they rarely think of the power we give these computers and the power they have over us.

We know a simple glitch or malfunction in the software can affect the whole system, as we experience in video games and viruses in our very own computers. This same problem can also occur in AI gadget resulting in terrible consequences. “The human brain is the most complex system we know of by orders of magnitude. Replicating the sort of intelligence that humans display will likely require significant advances in AI.” Says writer Toby Walsh. This may be true, however: “Artificial Intelligence won’t be like us, but it will be the ultimate intellectual version of us.” Barrat expresses. Sure, these gadgets can help out, but when “helping out” means no more Homo sapien life then that’s the end of our era.

In brief, due to the potential dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) its research should be slowed or stopped because this could lead to the extinction of humanity.
