Child welfare is a system that ensures that children who are abused and not in a stable environment get the help they need and deserve. They are also to investigate thoroughly on what is happening and going on with the child in the unhealthy situation. Although with this, in some cases the system fails the children and which then leads to being too late to help the child in danger. Many cases like Gabriel Fernandez and Anthony Avalo who have been failed by the system at such an early age. Child welfare systems have let many kids down by not providing the resources and support for the children in unstable, abusive circumstances. These systems need to improve on how they organize these cases by being more aware of the children and their situations. …show more content…

The teacher had reported this, as well as the way the child looked, he had bruises, black eyes, and teeth knocked out of him. This case then landed on social worker, Stephanie Rodriguez, who did not take the steps that were supposed to be taken to care for Gabriel Fernandez, who was in danger. There were other social workers that had taken the case but did not go to the extent that they were supposed to go. With these Child Welfare systems failing Fernandez, the Social Workers involved were all taken into court, in the article that provides what led to the child's death states that, “Ms Rodriguez, Patricia Clement, Kevin Bom and Gregory Merritt were charged in 2016, with prosecutors claiming Ms Rodriguez and Ms Clement had faked official reports and their supervisors Mr Bom and Mr Merritt “knew or should have known” they were false” (Paine 7). There were many opportunities for Gabriel Fernandez to be saved and secure from abuse, but appropriate actions weren’t taken. As well as Anthony Avalos, being in a similar case as Gabriel Ferandez. Child Welfare systems failing Avalos as well and not taking action as quickly as they should
