I have loved government and policy since I was a government relations intern in Florida. Towards the end of my undergraduate education I was offered an internship with the Department of State in Washington, DC and I knew that no other city would provide me with the opportunity experience so many facets of government in a central location. Since my move to DC I have been able to flourish and grow my career in government relations and contracting. I have worked for various agencies and federal offices in a variety of capabilities. The more I worked the more I loved what I saw as the endless possibilities of my careers. My desire to grow my career, and seek out management opportunities, led me to explore graduate schools and I set my view on American University (AU). I completed the Graduate Professional Studies (GPS) program at AU because I wanted to see if graduate work and AU were the right step for me. Despite working full time, I am proud to say that I completed my graduate certificate with a 3.0. During my semester on campus I fell in love with the campus and exploring the programs. My AU professors were knowledgeable and helpful. I felt that my professional experience led me to provide keen insight during my coursework and classroom participation. I developed study habits that allowed me to juggle both school …show more content…
One of the reasons for my GPA was a difficult calculus class that I attempted three times. I finally accepted that I could not pass that class. That class was also a requirement for my major so I explored other majors, took an intro to politics class and found my passion. My grades improved towards the end of my time at FIU but I knew that I wanted to enter the workforce after graduation to really get an idea of where my career could lead me. I believe that my successful completion of the graduate certificate showcases that I am ready for graduate level
An HBCU is a college/university that embeds the nature of power and black excellence; a place with surroundings that doesn’t force you, but makes you want to push yourself to become a better person inside and out, and throughout the community. Transferring would allow myself to be put in an atmosphere of continuous motivation and growth that I would feed off of my superiors and the people around me.
The report, Higher Education for American Democracy, triggered changes in federal policies and subsequently the universities followed suit. Members of the commission arg...
The decision to enroll in graduate school came after considerable time and soul searching. While contemplating the decision to return to school I thought about life, school and work. I realized that my experience in these areas have prepared me for the challenge and I am going to succeed.
In truth, I originally wanted to apply to Aurora University because of the location and its convenience. After I researched the program and attended an open house I knew this decision was a good one. The three year part time program stood out to me because it fits in well with my current schedule. When I came to campus the atmosphere immediately felt welcoming and the faculty acted as if they truly cared about my future. Unlike other universities, the faculty gave life advice as opposed to advice just to recruit students to their program. I can see myself in the Masters of Social Work program at Aurora University and being happy while pursuing my
It was a life changing experience. Furthermore, during my time in the WGSS program, I’ve had the privilege of being supported by extremely caring faculty members in my academic endeavors, as well as in my pursuit of a vocation that encompasses both my politics and passions that prioritizes on community empowerment.
My academic experience includes State University as well as University of Phoenix. However, my experience at Phoenix earned me an MBA with a 3.61 GPA and I believe this experience proves my ability to survive a rigorous master’s degree program. It was an intense weekly program with weekly presentations, papers and extensive reading. The intensity of the program challenged my intellect and abilities and it was great preparation for Yale’s MPS program.
I have always been determined to enter the financial sector and contribute the growth and development of this area; I want to make a great impact on this industry. My desire is sustained by the inspirational role models that drive the corporation forward; like Alan sugar. I realised that not only academic understanding is needed, but motivation, confidence and creativity are also, needed to flourish.
My overall GPA in my undergraduate degree does not provide an accurate representation of my capability as a law school student. I started at San Francisco State University as a civil engineering major. I struggled with my engineering courses, which is demonstrated on my transcript in the fall of 2013. I did not change my major to find something that would be less challenging; I changed it to something that I was more interested in. Business administration (decision sciences) is a rigorous undergraduate program, but this program was more aligned with my interests and abilities. The years following my major change, specifically my final three semesters in 2016, is more representative of my potential as a student.
My interest in the University of Tulsa is strengthened by the required practicum and field experience, as well as, excellent faculty and facilities. I intend to pursue a career in applied research and organizational consulting, therefore, these qualities are imperative to myself and my career.
I wanted to continue my career abroad. Therefore, I made a detailed research and ended up going to the United States because of its worldwide reputation in academics. My initial research showed me that Southern part of United States would be most education friendly due to social, climate and financial reasons. Besides, a field like Public Administration requires one to be involved in a more diverse environment as it is any government’s job to provide service to its citizens from diverse background. Grambling State University, with its diverse environment and friendly atmosphere was the most suitable one. Due to this reason, after completing the English as Second Language Program of ELS center in Ruston, I applied to Grambling State University. At the beginning I was required to take some undergraduate level classes to improve my knowledge and skills. I have successfully completed fifteen cou...
Two years ago, I was writing my letter of intent for my application to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Healthcare Administration revealing my failures, and most significantly, that I lost my passion and didn’t know where to start. I also conceded that I was relatively unaware of the field of Public Administration (PA). Little did I know, examining PA theories would enable me to connect the final dots in the big picture of my life, where I came from, who I’d come to be, what choices I’d made, the relationships I nurtured, and my dreams and desires for the future. Although confidence came slowly and awkwardly, I discovered my desire to contribute to the advancement of public health policies. I am writing to express my interest in continuing to the Doctoral program in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). I am absolutely interested in the commitment to the advancement of knowledge, and confident my experience in higher education and academic research will contribute to my successful completion of the Ph.D. program, in the specialization area of public policy.
As a first step of my academic path, I applied and was accepted to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) for a Master of Public Administration(MPA). UIC is considered among best universities both in the US and in the world. I have been a MPA student in the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs since Fall 2015. My thesis project is about urbanization
An undergraduate degree in Sociology has heavily influenced my decision to pursue a Masters in Public Administration (MPA). Academically, I have remained consistent in excelling in all tasks I have undertaken. I have learned about group dynamics and how different approaches are utilized to solve the problems they may entail which are important to serve the public effectively. It also exposed me to broad program planning. In the course of my Research Internship under Dr. Zina McGee, I successfully created a research based program that would help minority youth cope with victimization. This experience further sparked interest in this field, specifically in planning social programs. Selecting courses such as Public Policy and Statistics have broadened my knowledge in the area of public administration and data analysis as well. Through my rigorous coursework, I acquired the necessary background to think analytically, solve problems, and communicate effectively, both written an...
Finally Looking back since I returned to school maintaining a 3.8 GPA, I felt that my first semester in the accounting program has been difficult and grades have been hard to attain, but I realized that my work experience has been helpful as it allows me to return to school with organizational skills and the intense desire not to give up despite the difficulties and perform well as I continue the journey to my degree. I hope that I can get practical experience in the field though part time internships and volunteer as well.
Growth is unpredictable, complicated, and completely dependent upon our experiences. It is nuanced and the layers are added either by necessity or by choice. Furthering my education is growth by choice. My ultimate goal is a Doctorate in Public Administration. As a penultimate step, I am eager to earn a Master’s in Public Administration with a specialization in Government Administration. This decision came after careful consideration of my academic background, areas of interest, and ultimate career goals.
