GMO are used on food to achieve characteristics that may be more desirable, such as bigger size or resistance to diseases or bugs. GMO began to sale in the commercial store in 1994, when Calgene first marketed its unsuccessful Flavr Savr delayed ripening tomato . Lately GMO have been used more in crops for farmers for example corn, canola, and cotton. GMO were officially founded in 1980 but there was a court case between a genetic engineer at General Electric and the U.S Patent Office is settled by a 5 to 4 Supreme Court ruling, allowing for the first patent on a living organism. In most cases GMO been altered with DNA from another organism, be it bacteria, plant, virus or animal but these organisms are sometimes referred as transgenic organisms. GMO are negative because people think it’s unhealthy and it will get people sick now or later in their life. Also the U.S government is having a problem with overweight and GMO is causing many Americans to gain weight. Lately there been reports of GMO potential health hazards, it has caused immune problems, accelerated aging, and changes in many organs. One major environmental issue is bees hugely important in the pollination of many food crops, but are unfortunately extremely endangered by modern agricultural techniques such as GMO crops. Are GMO really health to the human body or to the environment?
GMO are really not healthy to the environment neither to the human body so why do we still have GMO in the world? GMO has caused many health problems to many people all over the world and it has caused them to be very sick. Also GMO might not get people sick right now but later in life you might end up with a disease. Iowan farmer Reg Clause suggests you may not in his column, “Say ‘no’ to GMO labeling.” Reminding readers that general election day has come, he attempts to convince us that a certain law should be voted against. The proposed legislation would mandate all foods that contain genetically modified organisms, also know as GMOs, to display a warning label on their packaging. He argues that this would be detrimental to the good name of these types of foods when they do not deserve to be shamed. I agree that the genetically engineered crops should not be labeled, but not because that would tarnish their name. Indeed, some claims are not well supported and may require testing, like genetic alteration through consumption or the validity of correlating animal health deficits with GM feeds. However, overall, GM foods clearly affect the world negatively in terms of biodiversity and ecosystem impacts.
