From Peanuts to the Press Box is the story of sports announcer Eli Gold. A young boy from Brooklyn, New York starts out selling peanuts at sports events and eventually makes his way to the top in the press box, giving play-by-play reports of games on the radio. Gold was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 15, 1953. He didn’t start broadcasting until 1972, when he reported for the Mutual Broadcasting Company. He stayed in New York until he was twenty three. While in New York he worked for stations including WOR and WNEW where he learned the basics. Before becoming the “Voice of Alabama” and announcing football, he announced ice hockey. He was only an announcer for the NHL for two seasons, the 1979-80 St. Louis Blues and the 2006-07 Nashville
Predators. Gold was also an announcer for NASCAR, beginning in 1976. After NASCAR, he began his most notable role, the famous “Voice of Alabama.” He began in 1988 announcing football and basketball for the Crimson Tide. Most people recognize him for this role, hearing him on the radio during Alabama football Saturdays. Eli Gold has done announcing for teams all over Alabama, including the UAB Blazers basketball team and Birmingham Barons baseball games. While with the baseball team, he was voted the Southern League’s Broadcaster of the year in 1983. He moved to Birmingham while broadcasting for the Birmingham Bulls hockey team. Calling All Sports was Birmingham’s first local call-in show for sports created by Gold and broadcast on WERC. Gold returned to the daily radio waves on August 30, 2011. He co-host a morning show with former Auburn quarter back Stan White. Eli has announced for the Arena Football League as well. Gold announced for the TNN broadcasting network starting in 2000. He did the play-by-play announcing for the TNN for only three years, as long as it was on. When the AFL was switched to ABC, he took a job there doing play-by-play. Eli Gold has announced for almost every sports league there is and is the famous announcer for Alabama football games on the radio. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in sports announcing or Alabama football.
Words have a way of changing the way we view the world. They can completely alter our perception of what is true and what is false. Take the tale of Skidmore and Manchester, as dictated in the story ‘The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel.’ The way the author portrays the character of Skidmore shows just how easily words can change how we see someone by making you believe that Skidmore is guilty of his brother‘s murder, without ever formally saying so.
A father of one of the main players that mistreated Radio, Frank Clay, had it in for Coach Jones and his ‘distraction.’ Mr. Clay makes continual effort to get rid of Radio. And,
Throughout his high school years he played all different kinds of sports. He played football, baseball, basketball and ran track. He was one of the best in all those sports. When he played for his high school basketball team he was the leading scorer, and earned the name “Prime Time.” After his four years playing for his high school team, it was time to start looking for a college. Since he wanted his mother to come see him play, his first pick of colleges was Florida State. He had great careers in all the sports he played in. Before his senior year at Florida State University (FSU), the Yankees took him, so he played professional baseball while in college. While he was in college he decided he would stay away from cursing. So every time he cursed he would pay someone 5 bucks. In 1989 he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round.
In 1950, McKay moved from Baltimore to New York to host a local 90-minute variety show for CBS. Charles Eastman made great strides to bridge the gap between the Native Americans and the white man. Born a Santee Sioux, Eastman excelled in his assimilated life, thereby gaining the respect of the white man, which he used to assist the Native American. He was able to give a voice to the culture and its people, which was quickly being silenced by a Eurocentric government. Eastman exemplified the abilities of the Native American through his accomplishments as an author, lecturer, physician, and activist. His capacity to live between two diverse cultures furthered his unprecedented endeavors.

Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, who is commonly known as Future, wrote a song describing his day. “Blow A Bag” explains about how Nayvadius lives his life without doing anything fake, or Fugazy. Fugazy, or Fugazi which is another way of being spelt in Future’s song, “Blow A Bag”, is the slang form of the word, fake. Nowadays, people do not understand the lyrics that Future rap because they do not use the same words that he rapped.
