The novel, The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, is a very interesting book with many great characters and friendships. One of the many friendships in the book is; Ponyboy Curtis and Sherri Valance, but as she says in the novel,” I’m called Cherry, because of my red hair, Cherry Valance.” Friendship is an amazing thing to have and can help you a lot. Also, friendship is when people help and care for each other. Likewise, even influence each other in their actions and decisions. Therefore, friendship is a very good thing to have and can change your life.

Ponyboy and Cherry are very good friends with a good friendship that is similar to many other friendships in the novel. Cherry was very helpful to Pony because she was a spy for him. Conjointly, they both talk to each other in ways they couldn't do to others. “I have never told anyone that. I think you’re the first person I've ever really gotten through to,” is what Cherry said when she was talking to Ponyboy. Another example of friendship is Pony and Johnny. Pony would help Johnny -- ”He wants a copy of Gone with the Wind so I can read it to him,” is what Pony said. Pony and Cherry cared for each other too, equally like Steve Randle and Sodapop Curtis (Ponyboy’s brother), who have been buddy since grade school. When making friends, you must choose the right ones by observing the person's qualities and how they behave. If the person behaves in a bad way, further away this person may lead you down the wrong path and get you into a lot of trouble.
