The American dream in my opinion is that anyone in the United States who is a citizen has equal rights when it comes to success, hard work and dedication to something. Everyone has a dream but it's all about how much hard work and effort you put into that dream that determines the outcome of it. In the film clip Friday night lights the team has the dream of beating the other team and being the best of the best. One team mate has a pep talk with the team he said “they bleed just like we do, they went through two a days just like we did they sweat like we do” but we're going to go on that field. And play our hearts out to the last buzzer stops because this is our dream beating them. As it said in the video the American dream is like quicksand the harder you fight the more buried you get in the sand. Meaning that the harder you go into your dream it gets harder. And how we put Lincoln on the only colored coin because he was a stepping stone for change in so many American dreams. And how schools have more barricades then books and are more worried about how many undocumented kids are in the school instead of books. This really opens up your eyes because it's showing how the dreams of different races is harder because of where they come from,background and how much money they have in there pocket. Really makes their dream harder compared to others in the United States we all are on different levels when it comes to trying to get to are American dream. When the poetry slam talks about the Declaration of Independance is dependant on race and color but we all breath the same air. It shows that there is no difference between white and colored people, but it’s so hard for people to get past the physical features to realize that we are all equal. Ethel was right when she said two colored men would help two white women, and those white men knew she was right. Those men knew Ethel had a point and now they had no choice but to help her and her friend. When Ethel was in the hospital, she had two doctors who mistreated her leg injury. Her wound was severely infected because the two doctors never helped her, and her leg could have been amputated.

Without the images in the video some many things could have been interpreted from the song itself. Before I watched the video I just thought the author was talking about war, and specially the wars America was fighting at the time of the song’s release. The music in combination with the instrumentals and video create a piece of art that enlightens the soul.
This shows us how white people thought of African Americans as inferior, and they just wanted to dominate the society making no place for other races to express themselves. Even though African Americans were citizens of the state of Mississippi they were still discriminated against. This documentary does a great job of showing us the suffering of these people in hopes to remind everyone, especially the government, to not make the same mistakes and discriminate against citizens no matter what their race is because this will only cause a division to our nation when everyone should be
I chose this particular documentary because I am African-American and have personally experienced this issue with myself, my sisters and my daughter. Currently in the African-American community you see that there is a lot of unrest. We see this playing out in the media with the violence that is happening and question how to bring awareness to the issues and to make this better. I feel that this ties heavily to our self-worth and the love and respect that we must have and demand amongst ourselves first.

The American dream I believe is that of someone improving their current situation into a better one. I don’t think it is a small change though. The American dream is not just getting a car when your family didn’t have one before or getting a small promotion at work so your family can actually start saving money. Although these are part of the American dream which simply put is growing and prospering from what you had before. This being said, I believe the real American dream is starting at the bottom having nothing, usually brought to that point by oppression or devastation, and soaring above poverty to at the minimum easy living where money is not a worry in one’s life. The stereotypical story would be from poverty to high class living, but just the movement to a better life is all that really needs to happen to be an American dream story. Tragedy and tough times happens to even the best of us. In the T.V. series “Friday Night Lights” Jason Street, Matt Saracen, and Eric Taylor show us just a few examples of how they deal with the trials and tribulations of life that got dealt to them.

Chris McCandless lived his American dream by walking alone into the wilderness of Alaska. The song written by Toby Keith, “American Soldier”, shows the price some pay for their dreams and ours to come true. Jay Gatsby died trying to acheive his dream and get the girl he loved, but died happy because he had pursued her until his death. The band All Time Low wrote a song called “The Reckless and The Brave” that brings a new light to how we go about achieving our dreams. So I believe that the American Dream is all about doing what will make you the happiest in the end.
The American Dream is something that the American people know all too well. After reading the directions and topic for this paper, I was extremely eager to get started. Adolescence is a stage of life that is very critical for a person. Speaking from my own experience, I know that the teenage years are a difficult part of life and during these years, one experiences a rollercoaster of different emotions, obstacles, and decision-making. Aside from the topic of Adolescence, I was glad that I could choose which movie I wanted to watch, and that was an easy decision. I decided to watch Sixteen Candles. The last time I watched this movie was when I received the DVD as a gift, which was when I turned sixteen. Watching the movie then, I obviously did not realize that most of the problems and events that occurred in the movie

In America alone needs is a dream and the motivation to carry out that dream. Ambition is the driving force behind the American Dream. It allows any one that has an aspiration, a desire, a yearning, to carry out the individual dream. It knows no bounds of race, creed, gender or religion. It stands for something great, something that every one can strive towards. A dream can be a desire for something great. In America, the American Dream allows dreams to become realities. According to Webster's New World Dictionary, the American Dream is defined as "An American social ideal that' stresses egalitarianism and especially material prosperity". To live this dream is to succeed. It allows anyone, rich or poor to have the opportunity to succeed. It is the ability to come from nothing and become so me thing. To succeed at any thing you do, you must have patience and persistence. It requires hard work, persistence and a desire for something better. To have these qualities and the desire and ambition to carry the moutis part of the American Dream.
In the Oxford Dictionary, the American Dream is defined as the traditional social ideals of the United States of America: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. People have the right of life and liberty, but happiness is not a right. Happiness can only be given by the amount of effort a person gives. People who have determination to devote their Life and exercise their Liberty to the accomplishment of discovering their talent and use what they like doing to achieve a goal. The film, Pursuit of Happiness, shows the American Dream being achieved by the main character, Chris Gardner, by working hard and using his talents. Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happyness goes through overcoming obstacles which shows that the American Dream is possible through faith, perseverance, and a focus on family values.
