Who is to blame?
Couples who are too similar to each other are not likely to last. This leads you to believe that couples that are completely different would last forever. This is usually true, except for the case of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet come from different families; the Capulets and the Montagues. Both families resent each other. However, Romeo and Juliet fall in love with one another despite the fact that their families hate each other. Ultimately, this leads to the death of these lovers. The tragic ending of Romeo and Juliet was caused by the lack of communication, as well as the actions of Tybalt and Friar Lawrence.
I believe that Friar Lawrence is one to blame for the untimely death of Romeo and Juliet. In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence is the one who marries them. The tragedy and death revealed in the following scenes of the play may have been avoided if Friar Lawrence had just declined to marrying them, and or talk to Romeo and Juliet's parents. “Come, come

with me, and we will make short work./ For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone/ Till holy church incorporate two in one”(II.vi.35-37). In this quote Friar Lawrence is sharing the plans for Romeo and Juliet's secret wedding. At this point Friar Lawrence should have realized that marriage was not a good idea. However, he goes through with it and Romeo and Juliet are married and tragedy unfolds. Hold, daughter. I do spy a kind of hope, Which craves as desperate an execution As that is desperate which we would prevent. If, rather than to marry County Paris (IV.i.70-73). Friar Lawrence plans to give Juliet a sleeping potion, and it will seem as though she is dead. What Friar Lawrence hopes will happen is that they will put Juliet’s ‘dead’ body in the family catacombs, then Friar Lawrence will send a letter to Romeo telling him to come and get Juliet and they can go off to Mantua and live happily ever after. Unfortunately, the letter does not reach Romeo. The lack of response concerning his love, causes Romeo to kill himself and then have Juliet do the same when she wakes up. All of this bloodshed could have been avoided if Friar Lawrence had refused to marry them and went and told Romeo and Juliet's parents. Although Friar Lawrence was largely to blame, he did not cause the death of Romeo and Juliet alone, the lack of communication in Romeo and Juliet also aided in their deaths.
If everyone in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet had communicated, then none of this tragedy would have happened. If Friar Lawrence had delivered the letter by hand to Romeo then none of this would have occurred. “I brought my master news of Juliet’s death, and then in post he came from Mantua”(V.iii.87-88). Another case that shows the lack of communication in this play is when Balthasar delivers an incorrect message to Romeo. Balthasar did not know any better because, no one thought it would be a good idea to inform him that it was all apart of a plan. However, it was also up to Romeo to tell someone that he had Balthasar bringing him news. This lack of communication led to Romeo storming off to Juliet's catacomb where she lies ‘dead’ and drinks a vial of poison so that he can die next to
her. Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood, The letter was not nice but full of charge, Of dear import, and the neglecting it May do much danger(V.ii.18-20). In this quote Friar Lawrence is clearly mad at Friar John for not delivering the letter. He is explaining to Friar John that the letter was very important. If Friar Lawrence had told Friar John, before he went to deliver the letter, that it was extremely important than maybe Friar John would have tried a lot harder to get the letter to Romeo in Mantua. If the correct messages could have been delivered to Romeo than maybe Romeo would not have gone off and killed himself. Tibalt is also someone to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. If Tybalt had never picked a fight then Romeo would possibly still be alive. Tybalt tells Romeo, “this shall not excuse the injuries/That thou hast done me. Therefore turn and draw”(III.i.37-38). Tybalt is demanding to fight Romeo. However, Romeo refuses to fight Tybalt. As Tybalt tries to stab Romeo Mercutio accidentally gets in the way of Tybalt's sword and is fatally wounded. Mercutio's death causes Romeo to become very angry. This eventually results in Romeo running his sword through Tybalt. As the Prince, believing that Romeo killed Tybalt, assess the situation and states,“And for that offence immediately we do exile him hence”(III.i.49). If Tybalt had never killed Mercutio then Romeo would never have killed him and therefore not get banished from Verona. If Romeo was never banished than it would be easier for him and Juliet to elope. If Tybalt had never started a fight than Romeo and Juliet would most likely still be alive. In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet there are many people to blame for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Many of these people were foolish, angry, and lazy. Unfortunately, the actions of these people eventually lead to the untimate death of these two lovers. Overall the tragic ending of Romeo and Juliet was caused by the lack of communication, as well as the actions of Tybalt and Friar Lawrence.
Friar Laurence’s interference in the families of Romeo and Juliet set much of the fighting, rage and death of these characters into motion. Romeo and Juliet is the title of a great tragedy. This tragedy has been caused by Friar Laurence’s involvement in the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, the Friar’s lying to Capulet and his family, and his involvement in the false death of Juliet.
"Romeo and Juliet," a famous love story about two star-crossed lovers who take their lives in order to be together. Their deaths are at the fault of one Friar Lawrence who, being an adult, a man of God and a trusted person in the community, betrayed that trust and attempted to cover up his wrong doings with a plan that ended in tragedy.
In the story,Friar caused many reasons for the death of Romeo and Juliet. He starts by making her drink the potion and marrying them thinking he was going to help but it made matters worse he too did not help Juliet when she was dying he just left. Friar Lawrence is a good friend of the Montagues. He was an advisor and friend to Romeo, and when they asked him to marry them, at first he denied them, but soon after that he accepted their mariage because it was going to be a pure marriage, But the marriage made the situation worse because they were rival families and of course they won't accept the marriage between the two rival families.
Youth and Age Should Friar Lawrence and the Nurse have been more careful about the way they encouraged Romeo and Juliet’s love? To what extent does Shakespeare present them as being to blame?
In the tragedy Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare there are a numerous amount of events that either happened by chance or by choice that could have led to the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. One character that perhaps played a role in the death of the two lovers was Friar Lawrence. In his speech to Romeo about growing up and becoming a man, Friar advised Romeo that if he wanted to be with Juliet he was going to need to man up.
Friar Lawrence should be blamed for the Tradegy of Romeo and Juliet because he acted to quickly. The Friar arranges for Romeo and Juliet to be married in secret, without thinking of the consequences of his actions. For instance, Friar hurriedly says ““…come, come with me, and we will make short work.””(2:4:101) Not only does Friar Lawrence marry Romeo and Juliet but he rushes their marriage. Although earlier he wisely states “wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast.” (2:3:101) Friar tells Romeo that slower is wiser, yet he rushes their wedding. Furthermore, the Friar is hiding Romeo after he has ki...
Who is the most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? In William Shakespeare's play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence gives Juliet a fake poison and when she takes it, she goes into a deep sleep that makes her appear dead. Juliet is then buried in her family's tomb and when Romeo goes to the tomb, he drinks actual poison and kills himself because he cannot bear to be without Juliet. After he dies, Juliet wakes up and sees that Romeo is dead so she stabs herself to death. Friar Lawrence is the one who caused all of this. Friar Lawrence makes three mistakes in this play. His first is when he marries Romeo and Juliet because they came from two feuding families. His second mistake is when he gives Juliet the fake poison to make her look dead. Finally, the friar gives the letter about "the fake death plan" to Friar John when he should have delivered it himself. Despite any other "at fault" characters in Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence is the most responsible for the tragic events that occur in the play because of his miscommunication, dishonesty and poor decision making.
...it has been debated endlessly on who is the real culprit of Romeo and Juliet's death. The most logical suspect as to why they really are dead is Friar Lawrence. Whether it is his unthoughtful actions or his bad timing, he is the one to blame. Before the untimely event of their deaths, Friar Lawrence was respected by almost everyone in Verona. However, his bad decisions including: marrying Romeo and Juliet without their parents' consent, giving Juliet a risky potion and plan, and not following through with his promises, led to his downfall. Friar Lawrence is the person closest linked to the event of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet's death.
to Romeo and he acted irresponsibly by just sending only one. letter and not thinking that this letter will reach Mantua or not. In conclusion, I think the most responsible is Friar Lawrence because he made a risky plan which led to the deaths of the two lovers. The The second character that I think is the most to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is Romeo himself, because he was too quick to fall in. love, he was in love first with Rosaline then Juliet.
WHO IS THE BLAME? Good afternoon, my fellow audience. I am here today to persuade you on who I believe to be the character most responsible for the death of the two main characters in the play, Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. It is almost an ironic play because of its open and easily known ending, but yet its ending raises the controversial question, WHO IS TO BLAME FOR THE DEATH OF ROMEO AND JULIET? I believe every character in the book contributed to their deaths, even Romeo and Juliet themselves, but Friar Lawrence bears a monumental deal of the blame because he was the principle and most reliable adult that could have steered the ‘inexperienced’ couple, but his incompetency led Romeo and Juliet to a violent death.
Friar Lawrence is responsible for the deaths of the lovers, because he was secretive, did not communicate well, and he was a coward. He had the potential to stop everything and prevent the death. If he only had thought things through, Romeo and Juliet would’ve survived. The deaths of Romeo and Juliet solely rest on the Friar’s shoulder. The Friar set up everything that happened and created a huge mess that could have been prevented.
He also tells Juliet that "Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift, and hither shall hem come; and he and I shall watch thy waking, and that very night shall Romeo bear thee to Mantua" (Act 4, Scene 1.) Unforeseen to neither the Friar nor Juliet that an error such as the one of Friar John’s would prove to be deadly. Poor Romeo was not able to receive the letter. Friar Lawrence plays a significant role in the plan for Juliet to "sleep."Friar Lawrence plays an important rule in the actual deaths of Romeo, Juliet, And Paris. Friar Lawrence is unable to reach Romeo with the news of Juliet’s "death." Romeo, thinking Juliet is dead rushes to Verona, but not before buying some fast poison.
In Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence has a major role. As a member of the Order of St. Francis, a group of wise and generous priests, Romeo and Juliet trusted Friar Laurence completely, turning to him for advice, and solutions. He was there throughout Romeo’s and Juliet's lives; he married them, came up with a plan to keep them together, and was a friend throughout their tragedies. However, Friar Laurence’s rash action in marrying Romeo and Juliet, his shortsighted plan for rescuing Juliet from an unwanted marriage to Paris, and his fear of committing sin all contributed to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
However, the Friar puts too much trust in Friar John, who consequently fails to deliver the letter to Romeo. It is Friar Lawrence 's ' fault that Romeo is not informed and ends up confused about the plan involving Juliet’s supposed death. Romeo misunderstands that Juliet is dead for real and as a result he decides to drink the poison and lie beside Juliet’s corpse. He finally does so.

Also, the Friar failed to send word to Romeo that Juliet wasn’t really dead and by the time he got to the tomb, it was too late and Romeo and Juliet were dead. Friar Lawrence was responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he was a coward, secretive, and had a lack of communication with the other characters.
