In romantic, tragic play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare is about two doomed lovers whose, families are opposing foes. The death of Romeo and Juliet wasn’t just a double suicide, it was an unfortunate strategy of Friar Lawrence, who sent them on suicidal path. He married the two star crossed lovers and gave innocent Juliet a sleeping remedy to fake her death. These mistakes lead to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
Friar Lawrence had an ill-fated plan that lead to the demise of Romeo and Juliet. He helped them get married in secretly, instead of helping them disclose their situation. He told Romeo, “Thy love did read by rote and could not spell / But come, young waverer, come go with me. / In one respect I’ll thy assistant be, / For this alliance may so happy prove / To turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (2.3.95-99). She asked the Friar for help, so she did not have to marry Paris and he told her, “Tomorrow night look that thou lie alone / Let not thy Nurse lie with thee in thy chamber. / Take thou this vial, being then in bed, / And this distilling liquor drink thou off.” (4.1.94-97). Friar Lawrence plan was to fake the death of Juliet and have Romeo come take her away, but Romeo did not know she was dead. When he came back to meet her he found her dead, in pain and in love Romeo drank poison killing himself, but as he died Juliet awoke and found Romeo dead.
