“We have learned to live in a world where ‘reality’ is a matter of choice.” While choosing what we feel is real is based on what we actually want to see. Trying to over look reality can cause a person to imagine things that might not actually be there. When you do not see the reality of anything you get lost in a world of imagination. Although, imagination is the best entertainment, when relying on it too much you would not be able to see the world of how it truly is. Adventuring out into the world is very important because it generates learning and creates additional knowledge. A person’s apprehension is very necessary for the sake of a person progressing. It is important to blossom because it generates one’s self to recognize their place in the world and there society. An example of people being lost in reality can refer to The Star Spangled Banner and the poem “America.” One is a song that represents the United States of America and has a distinct meaning to our country. While the other however, shows the reality of the people who live in this Nation, and the problems America deals with daily. The main conflict that American’s face is the personal freedom that America claims to have. In the first amendment it states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press…” To everyone America is a beautiful place to live; it’s a place to become a free person with the choice of any religion you would like to have. It is important that people see that this is not the case; the reality is that they actually want you to believe in god with whatever religion it is you choose to pursue. A good example of this situation would... ... middle of paper ... ... unable to tolerate it. Getting lost in your imagination, thinking that America is a harmless place to live could cause you to misjudge things. In “America” it says “everyday somebody goes on trial for murder” everyone knows that there are curtain dangers everywhere, but everyone sugar coats it to make it into a quality that is meaningful and deserving. The thought of the world as a type of danger puts the people at a loss for words. We are suppose to be living in a Nation that is safe, with individual civil rights that allow us to act freely, but when it comes down to it there is still some type of boundaries that we must follow. As individuals we grow to learn that not everything is how it appears. Although the first ten amendments show and explain our own individual rights they are written in a way that allows us to our freedom but only to a certain extent.
Typically the most basic civil liberties are found in a country’s bill of rights and then that country passes amendments as needed in order to grow the peoples’ civil liberties, or shrink them if need be. Now, in the case of the United States the people are not “granted“ civil liberties by the...
Since the Bill of Rights was ratified, there has been constant change in the world and therefore all the amendments have been tested and questioned. Many people in the past and in modern day, say that “a man 's house is his castle” and therefore that man has the right to protect his house and effects. That protection goes for anyone that wants to inflict harm in the person or property. It also extends to law enforcement and the government, not allowing them to conduct unreasonable searches and seizures.
From the beginning, the United States Constitution has guaranteed the American people civil liberties. These liberties have given citizens rights to speak, believe, and act freely. The Constitution grants citizens the courage to express their mind about something they believe is immoral or unjust. The question is, how far are citizens willing to extend the meanings of these liberties? Some people believe that American citizens take advantage of their civil liberties, harming those around them. On the contrary, many other people feel that civil liberties are necessary tools to fight for their Constitutional rights.
The idea of freedom, that America, founded its principles on, has not always successfully held up. Undoubtedly when our country first started, we had the idea in mind, that our constitution would protect the needs of its people, even as those needs alter; therefore it’s wording needed to be, ductile and interpretive. In recent years, this plasticity has become functional and fair, yet in the past, politicians used it to give and revoke, power, to and from people. Prior to the civil war, though it helped spark many of the social/civil revolution we know today, liberty and freedom were a luxury enjoyed by a few people. Woman, non-whites, and low-income people had their liberties denied, questioned or altogether abolished. However these same groups
Some examples of conflict that have occurred in America are as follows: same sex marriages, abortion, in-virto fertilization and equal rights between the sexes (The Coalition for the Free Exercise of Religion, n.d). If religion were to rule our nation these issues would be illegal simply because of the Bible. One of the great things about our nation is having individual choices like the issues listed above. People shouldn’t be judged or persecuted simply because they might not have the same religious beliefs as another.
Throughout American history, our civil liberties as American citizens have evolved immensely. For example, the first ten amendments in the U.S. Constitution are referred to as the “The Bill of Rights,” which contains some of the most cherished civil liberties, such as freedom of speech and religion. These civil liberties however, did not originally apply to state governments or institutions the state established. The Bill of Rights focused solely on what the national government could not do, allowing state governments to do whatever they wanted. For example, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire supported Congregationalist ministers with tax payer dollars for decades. After the Civil War, civil liberties expanded, because three new amendments were added: the Thirteenth, abolishing slavery, the Fourteenth, which redefined civil liberties and rights, and the Fifteenth, which allowed adult, male citizens to vote. The due process clause (contained in the Fourteenth Amendment) became one of the most important civil liberties, because it applied the language of the Fifth Amendment to state governments, proclaiming that they could not “deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law....
Freedom in the United States Essay submitted by Unknown No other democratic society in the world permits personal freedoms to the degree of the United States of America. Within the last sixty years, American courts, especially the Supreme Court, have developed a set of legal doctrines that thoroughly protect all forms of the freedom of expression. When it comes to evaluating the degree to which we take advantage of the opportunity to express our opinions, some members of society may be guilty of violating the bounds of the First Amendment by publicly offending others through obscenity or racism. Americans have developed a distinct disposition toward the freedom of expression throughout history. The First Amendment clearly voices a great American respect for the freedom of religion.
The Market Revolution caused tremendous changes in the way Americans live and interact with one another and the environment. Although the Market Revolution had copious extraordinary effects on Americans' life and culture that continues to influence, it also had numerous deleterious effects on the society. In Walden and Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau, he condescended the changes in the market because it changed the way people lived. Thoreau believed that the Market Revolution suppressed people’s enjoyment of freedom and instead of savoring the simple things in life, people chase after materialistic goods and thus incapable of enjoying life.
America has been named the "melting pot" of the world. It houses many different cultures, nationalities, ideas and religions. There are Christians, Jews, Catholics, Buddhists, Mormons, Hindus, Spiritualists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Islamic, plus many more. America is unique in that all these religions are represented in a nation that is only 200 years old. And America has upheld, throughout history, that the freedom and equality of religion is extremely important in order for this nation to function as a free nation. The foundations of America were set as a result of England's persecution; more specifically, England's religious persecution. The colonists wanted to create a nation that allowed people to be free. They desired to speak what they wanted to speak, do what they wanted to do, and practice what they wanted to practice... without the government watching their every move. Thus came religious freedom.
In reality, what is freedom? When can I person actually declare freedom? These questions are brought to mind after engaging in the novel, The Known World. Many characters in the novel are said to be “free” , but they do not seem to be in reality free. Yes, they may be free from some binds, such as slavery, but in most cases, those who claim to be “free” are the ones who are indeed, the most suppressed.
What does freedom means to you? That's the question I was asked. A lot of people say that freedom is just freedom. Well, I did and it's not just freedom have you ever taken the time to think about this. Well I did and I didn’t think about freedom until I did this project and now it has me thinking. What does freedom mean to me? I think it means you have rights. I know that that probably means nothing to you, but some people don't have freedom like slaves and we are thinking that we don't have freedom. Well I say think again, there are people out there that don't have freedom and we are not happy that we don't have freedom. You should be thankful that you have freedom. Because freedom is not handed to you, our military fights for our freedom.
Freedom is often spoken of in what can be referred to as a loose sense of the word. One country has more freedom than another; a twenty-one year old has more freedom than a fifteen year old. What exactly does this word mean? For different people it may mean different things, but there has to be an equilibrium that can be reached in order to determine the meaning of freedom itself. In one form, freedom can mean that a person has "exemption from an obligation."* If only the root (free) is looked at, it can be interpreted that one is "not under the control or power of another."*
The constitution of the United States of America gives me the right to freedom because I am a United States citizen. I consider "freedom" to be my right to express myself in any way I choose. Freedom is defined as "having liberty of action or thought, independent". "Self-governed or not controlled by an outside party" is another definition of freedom. Freedom has a different meaning to each individual thus making it hard to find a clear concise definition.
People can have the desire for freedom as well as the desire for limitations on freedom. This is because freedom and limitations on freedom are both needed to live peacefully. Absolute freedom cannot be achieved because when you take away limitations you take away freedoms. With out rules governing our society, people would be able to do what they want to each other with out a certain punishment. When you examine the advantages and disadvantages of both arguments it becomes clearer.
How do you like being free?(Rhetorical Question) Do you enjoy your freedom? I do. I enjoy the fact that I can do and say whatever I want, when I want. The fact that I have the ability to even answer this question alone is proof of that. Your freedom is the most basic right you have and refusing to fight for it is like dying before your heart stops beating. (Analogy) Never give up your right to freedom, which is your right to be, do, and see anything you want.
