The determination to not let anything stop Victor from completing his experiment was heard in the stern tone of voice Alyssa used whenever Victor would give direction. Alyssa’s rate of speech would increase and get louder whenever Victor spoke about his experiment. If the experiment process was not going according to plan Alyssa would speak with a loud throaty voice to emphasize Victors’ anger and disappointment. The audience was also able to see how Victor was a determined to make the perfect experiment through Alyssa’s actions. Alyssa’s movements were very precise and careful, like when she was sticking the hand on. Alyssa’s body would reflect Victors frustration and anger in the experiment not going right by going from a straight and upright posture into a slouch. Whenever Elizabeth was sad about Victor postponing the wedding Maureen would make herself smaller by turning into herself and holding her arms tightly. Elizabeth worries so much about Victor that she can not stand still and constantly goes to the window to watch for Victor. To show Elizabeth’s love for Victor Maureen’s pitch would get higher and her voice would fill with excitement when Victor entered a room. Maureen made sure that whenever Victor was in the room, Elizabeth never took her eyes off him. Victor Frankenstein may be the leading character in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, but a hero he is not. He is self-centered and loveless, and there is nothing heroic about him. There is a scene in Chapter twenty-four where Captain Walton is confronted by his crew to turn southwards and return home should the ice break apart and allow them the way. Frankenstein rouses himself and finds the strength to argue to the Captain that they should continue northwards, or suffer returning home "with the stigma of disgrace marked on your brows." He quite obviously has alterior motives and if he were not the eloquent, manipulative creature he so egotistically accuses his creature of being, he might not have moved the Captain and the men so much that they are blind to the true source of his passion. Unfortunately for Frankenstein, the crew, (however "moved") stand firm in their position. Yet the things he says in his motivational speech are prime examples of the extent to which Frankenstein is blind to his own faults and yet will jump at the chance to harangue others. He is so self-centered that his lack of interaction and love for others after his experiment has been completed, would barely qualify him as a person, if the difference between being human and being a person lies in the ability to have relationships with others.
Martha Elizabeth shows her love and patience when she first goes to retrieve her drunken father from Ben Feltner’s house. She doesn’t ask Thad to get in the wagon and come home, she tenderly leads him to it and helps steady him as he climbs up. Margaret tells Andy that she remembers very clearly how gentle Martha Elizabeth was with her father that day. Thad felt it a relief “to climb into the wagon under the pressure of her hand on his arm”. (Berry, 21) This shows the power of Marth Elizabeth’s patient love, it calmed her father and he felt at rest in her presence.

Mary Shelley discusses many important themes in her famous novel Frankenstein. She presents these themes through the characters and their actions, and many of them represent occurrences from her own life. Many of the themes present debateable issues, and Shelley's thoughts on them. Three of the most important themes in the novel are birth and creation; alienation; and the family and the domestic affections.
Frankenstein and Science & nbsp; & nbsp; Science is the knowledge gained by a systematic study, knowledge which then becomes facts or principles. In the systematic study the first step is observation, the second step hypothesis, the third step experimentation to test the hypothesis, and lastly the conclusion whether or not the hypothesis holds true. These steps have been ingrained into every student of science, as the basic pathway to scientific discovery. This pathway does not hold as to the good or evil intention of the experiment. Though, there are always repercussions of scientific experiments.
When reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, one cannot help but notice that the women characters seem to have little substance compared to the male characters. This may have been caused by the time period in which she wrote: one in which females were considered inferior to males. This difference between the sexes can be looked at using a variety of different perspectives. Johanna M. Smith, a professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, discusses this issue using feminist eyes in her essay entitled "'Cooped up': Feminine Domesticity in Frankenstein." The main points in Professor Smith's essay are that the female characters are there only to reflect the male characters, and that the Frankenstein family has a weird style of living, which she describes as a "bookkeeping mentality" (Smith 279).
Mary Shelley expresses various ethical issues by creating a mythical monster called Frankenstein. There is some controversy on how Mary Shelley defines human nature in the novel, there are many features of the way humans react in situations. Shelley uses a relationship between morality and science, she brings the two subjects together when writing Frankenstein, and she shows the amount of controversy with the advancement of science. For centauries, women have been forced to live life in the outskirts of a male dominated society. During the 1800’s, the opportunities for women were extremely limited and Mary Shelly does an excellent job in portraying this in her gothic novel, Frankenstein. Furthermore, in this novel, Mary Shelly shows how society considers women to be possessions rather than independent human beings. In addition, the female characters rely heavily on men for support and survival, thus proving their inability to do it on their own. Lastly, the female characters in this novel are in many ways victimized by the male characters. In conclusion, in Mary Shelly’s novel Frankenstein, the female characters always fulfill the limited and archetypical roles that are set for them by society.

Inter-textuality serves the purpose of using other texts to generate an interrelationship between each other. Shelley’s use of inter-textuality serves to sway the reader and add more appealing content so as to capture the attention of the reader. Some inter-textual aspects used by Shelley include plagiarism, quotes from other texts, and allusions from other writers work or speakers.
Within Frankenstein, the level at which a female is portrayed is quite low. Like we have heard in class, women were not necessarily respected as much as men were when the novel was written. Published in 1818 by Mary Shelley, her story tells of the adventure of young Victor Frankenstein and the creation of his creature. Though deep within this narration of Frankenstein’s life, there seems to be an underlying theme seeping through Shelley’s writing.
