My Two Passions There are two things in my life that are extremely important to me. One of these things is sports and the other is helping people. Basketball has been a part of my life for many years. Helping people has always been important but only recently have I been able to combine these two together. Being a Captain on the Varsity Basketball team in my school is very pleasing and puts much joy in my life. I love to be able to lead my team on to the court for big games and show them the right way of doing things. I try to set examples on and off the court. One example off the court is helping out the disabled kids in my school. My team and I put together a special basketball game for the disabled children in my school. This is only one of the great ways of helping out. I believe it is very important to help those who are incapable of playing sports. I can pick up a basketball and play a game at any time I wish. It hurts me to know that some kids can't that is why I try my best to make them feel special and show them that they can play with us too. At the Jewish Community Center, where I play basketball as well, we have Hanukah parties for the disabled children. We give gifts out, dance with them and play games too. It feels great to play with them and show them that they're not much different then us, we all just want to have a good time. These events are truly special in my life and I hope it they are special for the disabled kids too. It takes time and patience to help disabled children and I'm glad that my team, the J.C.C., and I were capable of helping out. Hopefully I can do more volunteer work or special events in college. Most people don't want to be bothered but once you see the smiles on these kids faces you know your doing something for a good cause and you and the kids feel like you can achieve any goals you set your heart on.
I help out my family and community in several ways. I have volunteered to help coach cheerleading at Jefferson Elementary School everyday after school. I work at Mattoon Academy of Gymnastics and coach several classes and their gymnastics team. I also work in my church's nursery on Sundays. Being a role model for all of the kids I coach and take care of means a lot to me because they look up to me and want to follow in my footsteps. Despite my busy schedule, I try to help out in the community and with my family as much as
I have assisted people with disabilities in need of assistance with house cleaning, cooking, and running errands. I enjoy what I do and consider it a privilege to be able to help people in the comfort of their homes. Helping my community is one thing that I enjoy, and I am glad I was in the position to help.
My dad used to say, " be part of something that's bigger than yourself". He always uses to force be to play sports. I chose to play basketball after seeing the all start game of 2009. Ever since I wanted to jump, shoot and Run back and forth. My dad thought it'll help be grow taller, which wasn't the case. Basket ball is more about communication but that's not true. It is about hard work, percesion, trust, being punctual and most importantly dedication. Through ethos, logos and pathos I will elaborate how being on the team change my

One of these causes, the Miracle League of the South Hills is particularly close to my heart. A friend of my mother has a child who is severely autistic, and all my life my family and I have volunteered for many organizations to help special needs children, of all of these Miracle League has left the greatest impression on me. Ghandi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others,” and that is exactly what has happened to me during my long term association with the Miracle League. I truly believe my association with this organization has helped me to become a better person, more kind, caring, outgoing, and energetic. Miracle League was founded on the belief that, “Every child deserves a chance to play baseball.” Miracle League operates specially designed fields on which they bring the game of baseball to children who may have never had the opportunity to play on a real field. I volunteer with the Miracle League Buddy program. The Buddy Program pairs volunteers with a Miracle League player to help the player The buddy is there to protect the player from balls, assist the player in batting and running the bases, and to be a friend on and off the field. I began volunteering as a buddy in 2012, and in 2014 I became a Buddy Organizer for my team, the Tigers. As Buddy Organizer I do exactly what it sounds like, I am in charge of pairing up players with a
Writing a self-reflective tirade is perhaps one of the most difficult tasks to perform. I have found myself pondering this topic for an unusually long time; no one has ever asked me to write about my culture-- the one thing about myself which I understand the least. This question which is so easy for others to answer often leads me into a series of convoluted explanations, "I was born in the U.S., but lived in Pakistan since I was six. My brothers moved to the US when I was thirteen" I am now nearly twenty, which means I have spent half my life being Pakistani, the other half trying to be American, or is the other way around?
The very small percentage of athletes that can make a living off of a sport that they love to do, is a very special thing. The phenomenal athletes that can make that happen are role models for children, teens, and some adults. Sports enthusiasts will quote things from the best leaders, motivators and competitors to share with their children, students, colleagues, and fellow athletes. Being a three sport athlete has given me the full experience of being around those tremendous athletes. I thoroughly enjoy playing sports, I have since I was a little boy, and sports are a huge part of my family. At all family gatherings after we eat, have fun outside, we gather around the table or the television to either talk of sports or
The Inquistor's claim to have "corrected" the teaching of Jesus might be interpreted as a cynical expression of his lust for power. While Dostoyevsky in general condemned the Catholic Church for its pursuit of temporal ends, Ivan creates a picture of an ascetic priest, one who has suffered in the wilderness and who is taking on the sufferings of all as his own, just as did Jesus himself. "Suppose that there was one such man among all those who desire nothing but filthy material gain -- if there's only one like my old Inquisitor, who had himself eaten roots in the desert and made frenzied efforts to subdue his flesh to make himself free in perfect.
...n. Whether I am coaching at a Christian school or not, I hope to make this one of my main priorities. I think this is important because basketball isn’t life all that’s important. It’s more important that I teach about God than basketball. Basketball doesn’t make you who you are, but a life with Christ does.
I am always passionate in reaching out to others and impacting their lives positively. In every community we always find the less fortunate, who are always ignored by the society in general. Seeing this from my childhood, I took the initiative to organize various fund raising events at my Parish Church with the consent of the Parish Priest in 2012. Bake sale, refreshment sale, clothing and food collections were some of the events conducted. The event was a success as we were able to generate a revenue of $8059, which was solely used to help the poor in the community. I was the main responsible person for this event and was complemented by my Church for bringing up this great idea. Being a successful venture, we continued with this event in the following years and it was always more successful than the previous years. In 2016, $12,257 was generated in revenue, which again went to help the less fortunate in the community. Additionally, I am also actively involved with the YMCA kids/teens/adult recreational programs. Here, I am involved in various programs that help improve the lives of many people, such as sports and other events. I strongly believe this helps build a vibrant community and is an effective way of giving back to the community as I am involved in shaping a sustainable and healthier
Plato’s Republic provides a detailed image of absolute truth about justice and morality through the lense of Socrates’ dialogue with his fellow companions. The Myth of the Metals is introduced in book four and defined as a “noble falsehood” (Grube 58) but earlier Socrates proclaims that “to be false to one’s soul about the things that are, to be ignorant and to have and hold a falsehood there, is what everyone would least of all accept, for everyone hates a falsehood in that place most of all” (Grube 58). There seems to be a conflict between Plato’s myth and his opinion on falsehoods but that is actually not the case. Plato’s Myth of the Metals does not contradict with his statement on falsehoods; instead brings forth a more complete picture of Plato’s theory of justice and molds his ideal of the perfect society.
Aristotle once stated that, “But if happiness be the exercise of virtue, it is reasonable to suppose that it will be the exercise of the highest virtue; and that will be the virtue or excellence of the best part of us.” (481) It is through Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics that we are able to gain insight into ancient Greece’s moral and ethical thoughts. Aristotle argues his theory on what happiness and virtue are and how man should achieve them.
Today’s society aims to keep kids off the streets and to get them into good environments. This goal is easily achievable with a 75 inch, symmetrical, orange globe—a basketball. The Federation of International Basketball Associations, or FIBA, states that over 450 million people in the world, from professionals to amateurs, play the game of basketball. The popularity of basketball is skyrocketing in the 605 with the help of two prosperous colleges in the city: The University of Sioux Falls and Augustana University. I play ball for the USF Cougars and am just one of the fourteen members who strongly believe in the motive to serve. Therefore, creating programs to help children in need around the area through basketball activities would be largely
At the age of one I was presented with two challenges, which are now my special interest. Challenges that seemed bigger to me than life itself. My grandfather bought me a basketball on my first birthday. He saw in me an athletic ability that would later bless those around me and eventually become the love of my life. Even though the ball was bigger than me at that time it became one of my favorite "toys" to play around with. My mother however, also saw in me the potential to be the best through my education. Together, basketball and education has brought great satisfaction, happiness and a way to show my talents while also expressing who I am as a person.
