Computer Science I have always been interested and intrigued by computers, ever since using a BBC when I was very young. Since then I have become fluent in writing BASIC and more recently I have learnt HTML, the language of the World Wide Web on which I have my own wesite. I use computers for most of my exam coursework such as Solving Equations Using Numerical Methods for Pure Maths 2 and also for recreation. My A-level studies are Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Design Technology. I have always been fascinated by numbers and this interest is continuing, hence my choices in A-level subjects. I enjoy the application of Mathematics to Physics. In Design Technology I can be creative and at the same time use my knowledge of Mathematics and Physics to help solve problems. I am applying for the course of Computer Science because I would like to increase my knowledge of this subject. I hope that in the future I will be able to create applications for computers that will help people to save time and money. For a career, I would like to be involved in the fast developing computer industry and more particularly with the Internet. I think it has immense potential and I would like to be able to develop the Internet to make it help the lives of day to day people. In this way I would also like to help make computers more like humans with for example voice operated user interfaces. For my University course I am seeking sponsorship from several companies associated with computers and computing. I am an active member of my Sixth Form being a prefect with supervisory responsibilities. I hold the positions of both sixth form committee member and House Captain for my school house. I have performed in the VI form pantomime, The Wizard Of Oz, for the local primary school children. When my school took part in BBC Newsround?s national mock election I was the Party Leader for the Liberal Democrat Party. I designed posters on my computer and helped mastermind the campaign in the school. This involved speaking in a four-way debate between the three party leaders and an audience of interested sixth formers and staff. My hard work paid off and I won my seat for the Sixth Form with an overwhelming majority.
First of all, the history off the tanning bed did not start when tan skin was hip. The first indoor tanning lamp was created for medicinal purposes in 1906. It was used on ricketts patients to help them develop stronger bones .# How does a tanning bed create stronger bones? Sunlight produces vitamin D in the body, which allows absorption of calcium. The absorption of calcium creates stronger bones. This tanning lamp was not thought about again until the 1970s, when a man named Friederich Wolff came along. Wolff used “artificially produced indoor tanning UV light to study athletes and how they might benefit from more exposure to sunlight.”# The artificial indoor light also gave the subjects of his study a darker complexion. In the fifties, the invention of the bikini popularized tanning outdoors significantly.# This trend still remained in the seventies.
Sweat dripping down my face and butterflies fluttering around my stomach as if it was the Garden of Eden, I took in a deep breathe and asked myself: "Why am I so nervous? After all, it is just the most exciting day of my life." When the judges announced for the Parsippany Hills High School Marching Band to commence its show, my mind blanked out and I was on the verge of losing sanity. Giant's Stadium engulfed me, and as I pointed my instrument up to the judges' stand, I gathered my thoughts and placed my mouth into the ice-cold mouthpiece of the contrabass. "Ready or not," I beamed, "here comes the best show you will ever behold." There is no word to describe the feeling I obtain through music. However, there is no word to describe the pain I suffer through in order to be the best in the band either. When I switched my instrument to tuba from flute in seventh grade, little did I know the difference it would make in the four years of high school I was soon to experience. I joined marching band in ninth grade as my ongoing love for music waxed. When my instructor placed the 30 lb. sousaphone on my shoulder on the first day, I lost my balance and would have fallen had my friends not made the effort to catch me. During practices, I always attempted to ease the discomfort as the sousaphone cut through my collar bone, but eventually my shoulder started to agonize and bleed under the pressure. My endurance and my effort to play the best show without complaining about the weight paid off when I received the award for "Rookie of the Year." For the next three seasons of band practice, the ache and toil continued. Whenever the band had practice, followed by a football game and then a competition, my brain would blur from fatigue and my body would scream in agony. Nevertheless, I pointed my toes high in the air as I marched on, passionate about the activity. As a result, my band instructor saw my drive toward music and I was named Quartermaster for my junior year, being trusted with organizing, distributing, and collecting uniforms for all seventy-five members of the band. The responsibility was tremendous. It took a bulk of my time, but the sentiment of knowing that I was an important part of band made it all worthwhile.
Indoor tanning was developed in 1906, originally for medical use. Users would develop more Vitamin D, which would aid in absorbing Calcium. Such treatment benefited anyone suffering from bone diseases. During the 1920s, Coco Chanel, a famous fashion designer, and Josephine Baker, a famous singer, displayed sun kissed skin by the means of tanning. The new look took off (“History of Indoor Tanning” 1). Then, in 1970, the beds were tested on athletes, and found that it gave them a healthy glow. The tanning beds were created to imitate...
There are basically two types of bronzers. The first one helps accelerate the tanning process whether you plan to tan in the sun or artificially by using a tanning bed. These kinds of bronzer tanning
Sunbeds were first created in Europe (“History of” n.pag.). They are a primary cause of many types of skin cancer such as melanoma and other dangerous and undesired health conditions (“Sunbeds, tanning” n.pag.). It is mistakenly assumed that tanning beds have less of a negative affect from UV rays than UV rays from the sun (“Sunbeds” n.pag.). Only 36 states have a law prohibiting minors’ use of tanning beds (“11 Facts” n.pag.). The negative effects of the use of sunbeds seem to greatly outweigh the positive effects. The damage from tanning beds is long-term and irreversible (“Sunbeds” n.pag.). Rules and regulations regarding tanning beds have not, in the past, been enough to prevent numerous cases against tanning bed companies from arising. Sunbeds are a growing problem in America that is greatly ignored (“Sunbeds, tanning” n.pag.).
People think the tanning bed is giving them the healthy glow, but this could be a sign of addiction. A study by The Archives of Dermatology,
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder also known as ADHD is one of the most common childhood disorders that continue through adulthood. Although ADHD is not considered a learning disability, children diagnosed with ADHD can be impacted tremendously in areas such as sitting still, staying focused, being organized, and completing homework each of these things affect the learning of children with ADHD. Children who are diagnosed with ADHD have trouble focusing, controlling their behaviour and usually act without thinking. ADHD occurs in about 3 to 7 percent of the population and is more common in boys than girls (Kingsley, 2012). ADHD during middle childhood affects children’s behaviors at home and school. There are many different symptoms that children experience before they are diagnosed with ADHD, these symptoms all fall under the three main types of the disorder; predominately inattentive type, predominately hyperactive-impulsive type, and the combined type. ADHD is often found with other disorders and associated problems. Middle childhood children diagnosed with ADHD can begin to experience many challenges in school and at home. Although ADHD cannot be cured it can be successfully treated and managed to support all children diagnosed with ADHD to being successful academically and to have control over their behaviour.
30 million people are expected to go tanning this year (“Tanning poses risks” 1). That means that 30 million people are putting themselves up for the risk of skin cancer, premature aging, and they are putting themselves in a possible unsanitary environment. The tanning industry wants a person to think that the only thing that tanning can do for them is to make them bronze and beautiful. When in reality, it has the opposite effect. People need to know what they are doing to themselves before they put themselves in a tanning bed. Many people choose not to acknowledge all of the harmful effects that tanning can have on your body. They think that it won’t happen to them. But, I will give facts and statistics to show that everyone is at risk of the possible outcomes that come from using a tanning bed. There are 1 million new cases of skin cancer found each year (“No Teen tanning” 1). We need to make that number go down. If we make a law that makes a person have to be over 18 to go tanning, many lives would be saved.
As an outward sign of beauty, tanned skin has been become a temporary fashionable accessory for the all year round summer look. The artificial skin color gives off an exotic and natural look, and highlight one’s physical traits such as facial structure or eye color. People use different types of machines and processes to tan their bodies such as your traditional sunbathing, spray tanning and tanning beds. They vary based on price points. The resulting appearance of these processes is created by burning and damaging the top layer of the skin. Although a tan may be desirable to many, the fact remains that more people need to be educated on the dangers of the sun’s harmful rays, and the possible health complications of overexposure to artificial or natural sunlight, and chemicals used in the tanning process which if not done properly can result in skin cancer.
In High School, college seemed to be the scariest thing that I could think of. Whenever I thought about it my stomach would immediately begin to spin in circles. Although I was ready to go off and be by myself and meet new people I was scared to death at the same time. I didn't know much about the "college experience" and what I did know (or thought I knew) scared me. I pictured hard classes that I wouldn't be able to keep up with, people that wouldn't like me, long hikes to get to my classes, and horrible food. I couldn't imagine leaving the security of my own room, my own stuff where I want it, my friends that I've spent practically my whole life with, my family who put up with all my little quirks, and my car!! What was I going to do without my precious car? Some of my friends that had already been to college and had come back to visit seemed so much older and more mature. I felt twelve years old in comparison. I thought that I would never be able to fit in. Everyone else that I talked to didn't however seem to have this problem. They all were thrilled at the thought of being on their own and not having to worry about their parents telling them what to do all the time. And sure, the thought was extremely exciting to me as well, but how would I survive without my family and friends and the things that had taken me eighteen years to get used to. I felt like going to college was pretty much taking everything that I knew and had grown accustomed to and throwing it up in the air. The worst part about it all was that I felt like I was the only one that actually thought about this. I felt so immature and childish for actually being scared to come to college. After I thought I wouldn't be able to take the pressures anymore, I decided to approach my mom about the subject. I told her that I was a little scared and the thought of being on my own made me a little uneasy.
In the Sixth Form, I regularly attend the school Debating Society, where I jointly hold the senior most position and organize many school charity events in my Senior Prefect role of Charities Coordinator. In the past, this has included raising nearly £3000 on the behalf of an Indian Cultural Society Fashion Show for the Indian earthquake. I was involved in the establishing of the first ever Student School Council in which I was Year Representative.
Earn while studying: you will agree with me that there are several jobs out there that require Computer Science student not necessarily because they have graduated but because they could do the job as student. Jobs ranging from web programming, software writing (which one can do after finishing Python programming language of CS1101 without necessarily finishing a bachelor or an associate degree) etc. Some of the place one can find these jobs are www.freelancer.com, www.upwork.com etc.
My first real experience with computers, as we know them today, was while I was in the Navy. Once we learned to use commands called "Dos", we could make the computer do unbelievable things. I became obsessed with learning as much as I could abo...
After my twelfth grade, the inherent ardor I held for Computer Sciencemotivated me to do a bachelors degree in Information Technology. Programming and Math, a paragon of logic and reasoning have always been my favorite subjects since childhood. I still vividly remember the time during my graduation, when I was successful in creating a simple calculator application as a class assignment. The joy I derived from creating something that is used by a lot of people to help them perform complex calculations, made me realize the power of computing in its true sense. It was also in my graduation that I developed an immense interest in programming languages such as Java, C++ an...
My passion for computers started in high school, when my father bought a home pc. Then I got the opportunity to explore my practical knowledge with a young and an enthusiastic teacher. At first I started learning about the hardware...
