Son of a slave woman and no father around, Frederick Douglass, a well known African-American writer became famous with his troublesome autobiography as a slave and writer. Mr. Douglass believed that Civil War was not only about restoration of the United States but also the abolition of slavery. What made him remarkable in the United States history was his point of view from most of the changes and aspects of a slave. Frederick also fought for women’s rights, for he wanted everyone to be treated equally. Many people, white and black, could not believe that Douglass was an ex-slave; they thought no slave could become a writer. All the critics lighted the fuse of his success, since no one believed all the stories and anecdotes he shared Douglass decided to write his own autobiography “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave” (1845) so everyone could recognize all the torment he had been through. Frederick founded “The North Star” and abolitionist newspaper. Frederick Douglass was an abolitionist leader from Maryland and one of the most genius persons in his time. Douglass would give symbolic speeches to thousands of people, for different causes, as I mentioned earlier, women’s rights was one of the causes he fought for. Frederick only saw his mother, Harriet Bailey, a handful of times in the big plantations. He was not even 10 years old when they sent him to Baltimore to work for a carpenter, here he learned about the abolitionist movement and the carpenter’s wife thought Frederick how to read. Gracious of his new abilities, he started teaching his fellow slaves, adults and children. He became a leader among slaves and a trouble among his masters.
