A wise individual once stated, “Change is the principal feature of our age and literature should explore how people deal with it. The best Science Fiction does that, head-on.” Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, portrayed Science Fiction by utilizing the three characteristics needed in every Science Fiction novel. That being said, Shelley created Frankenstein based on plausible scientific principles and technology, predictions about life in the future, and important issues in society. However, because she does not show these characteristics clearly, her work may not follow the genre’s guidelines entirely. “One hand was stretched” (Shelley, 52). Victor opened his eyes from a deep sleep, only to see the monster grinning at him, and stretch his hand outward. The monster was able to move, and clearly, was able to walk since he found his way around throughout the novel, Frankenstein. This quote showed how Victor had made the monster able to move after previously being inanimate. Additionally, Shelley's prediction was supported when Rob Summers, a phenomenal baseball player, was “struck by a car, broke [his] neck leaving [him] paralyzed from the neck down”(Prophets of Science). Summers went to the University of Louisville and Kentucky where he had “undergone over 80 sessions of spinal cord stimulation” and can now move his body once again (Prophets of Science). Furthermore, Shelley predicted the future ability of stimulation to make the body to reanimate. In Frankenstein, Victor gave the creature the ability to move by a formation of the limbs and attachment of nerves. Contrastingly, this novel did not depict this characteristic. This is due to the fact that Shelley did not specifically predict how it would be possible for human beings to get spare limbs to reanimate, or how it would be possible for human and animal limbs to combine to
