Political parties are an important part of our political system today, yet some of them are not mentioned in the constitution. Framers' fear of political parties was something that weighed heavily on the earliest leaders of our nation. In Washington's farewell address he stated, "However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion." In Federalist 10, James Madison talked about the “Factions” and that he defined factions as being very dangerous for the Republican government. The Founding Fathers aimed to establish a republican form of government. The framers feared that political parties would prioritize their own interests over those of the nation, potentially undermining the stability and functioning of the republic. They worried that party loyalty and the pursuit of power would lead to corruption and a disregard for the principles of good governance. Nothing in the United States constitution calls for the American Government to create political parties. Political parties were created after a debate on the shaping of the United States Constitution. When the Federalist wanted a stronger, newer government, while the anti-federalists didn't want the constitution, they were fearful from their experience with Britain and they wanted a bill of rights instead. Political parties are useful because you can get an idea of the general status of a candidate. Political parties are good or bad for this reason as well because there is always some new face but the same values leading to a government that barely faces new issues and instead focuses on old problems which could be good or bad depending on your views. The problems in a two party system don't end there as people become corrupted by their party and end up in jail for doing what they were told by their political leader, which has happened in the Watergate scandal. Political parties are too strong and are privately funded which in the end makes them useless as they do not have to do what is best but instead what they want. They are also useless to your everyday American and it is now practically impossible to get elected if you're not a party member as people just vote for parties and not the candidates themselves. Some of the information that we found interesting is that the founding fathers aimed to establish a republican form of government.
