Many people in this world do not enjoy school, and the stress that comes with school. School is very difficult in many ways. In the life of a teacher and a student, there is a lot of stress that comes with it. A four-day school week would not add as much stress on to the students and teachers work day. Also, the days would help prepare students for a regular life; such as business and college.
Initially, a ten hour school day, and a day off would add a lot of time for students and teachers to catch up on school work. With more time to study and work on school work, they would have less to worry about. In many cases, people that are in school would enjoy a three-day weekend. This could lessen the stress of school, and may make the students enjoy school a little more. With a day off of school, students may have more time to work on homework. This day off could also benefit teachers. Teachers may have more time to grade school work, and prepare for further lessons. In addition, the teachers at the same schools that choose to have a shorter week, would not have to do as many lessons, and the ten hour school day would mean that teachers would have a

The schedule of a college student, is very different from a high school schedule. A four-day week is typically like a college week. There are also many longer days at college. Many people, including students, are not as used to the four-day school week, but the longer weekend would allow students to get a part time job. Many colleges look for a hard working students, and with a part time job, and going to school at the same time, would assist in acceptances to colleges. There are many benefits to a longer school day and a shorter week. Preparing for a regular life, is one of the most important of the
Just the existence of an extra free day allows students to get more homework done and have more time. For example, if you have a project that takes at least three days to complete, and you were absent one day, this will give you extended time to finish your project. My next point coincides with my first one; that having an extra day without school “stretches” work time. This means that students will have more time to do a project or homework, which means that students won’t feel as pressured, which means that the quality of the homework is much higher. My next point also coincides with the previous point; that students won’t feel as pressured and worried as a two day weekend.
Students now have the opportunity to work another day to save for their future. The four-day school week also provides much more time for these children to spend and enjoy time with friends, and family, as well as enjoying extracurricular activities. There is a lovely environment for the children at the school and an extra day for the instructors to gain knowledge and a better understanding of their curriculum. The schools will be saving a varying amount of money that could be used in case of an emergency with money of any kind. Whether it is an emergency funding program, or money to fund an extracurricular activity. In conclusion, the four-day school week has proven itself to be a very effective form of education that Colby Public Schools most certainly should switch to within the coming
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.
I am convinced that students would do better in school if they had a midday break that allowed them enough time to eat a good meal because they need to recharge their brains with physical activity. This will give students an extra push to have more energy when they return back to class. Critics may exaggerate that this method will do nothing but make students drained and exhausted personally I disagree. A mid-day break for an hour will do nothing but strengthen us, all of us. It also will give students extra time to finish unfinished assignments and homework that wasn't completed at
School provides a lot of work. There are eight total classes in a semester, and sometimes it can be hard to keep up with everything that school asks of its students. Because of all the work, students tend to ignore the requirements school has. (For example, students will ignore due dates or study suggestions.) However, taking Fridays off (and replacing the days with extra weeks of school) will provide success for the students.
Another benefit of later school start times is health benefits for the students. Because of the hormonal
Relaxation could improve a students ability to think and therefore enhance their chance of excelling at their academics. According to an Indiana school,"Having one weekday off of school each week allows more flexibility for teachers and students." Students have an extra day to make sure that they do all their studies and still get extra time to do extra curricular activities. This also prevents homework and studying excuses students might make as a result of lack of time and abundant amount of homework. A five day week of school gives students a hard time as they have to adjust both activities and studies in 2 days. As a result of a five day school week students get less time to spend with their families, but with a four day school week they could spend more with family and still have everything finished and be prepared. Concluding from these chain of events, an implementation of a four day school week will result in a students academic growth.
Teachers don’t get paid nearly as much as they should. With a four-day week, the classroom time is extended to meet state requirements. However, teachers claim they aren’t getting paid enough to do the amount of work required ( Yarbrough and Gilman 85). Also, Colorado’s Karval School District RE 23 Superintendent claimed, “‘If teachers are not efficient in the classroom, we have one less day to reach students,’’ (Chmelynski). Longer days in the classroom can also be tiring on the students. Teens can’t learn well when they’re tired (“No-School Fridays” 20). Potential challenges of a four-day week are the special needs and younger students. Attending school for these students could be difficult by keeping their attention (Weldon
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days. Finally, the economy and our society will benefit from expanding school days.
Having a four day school week could benefit both teachers and students. It gives more time for teachers to plan lessons and more time for students to relax their brains or finish their work. First of all, four day school weeks could lead to improvement in a student’s grades and test scores. Four day school weeks could lead to less stress which could help students study better and be more attentive when lessons are being taught. For example, nymag.com tells us that, “Anderson and Walker found that math scores improved for the school’s fourth and fifth graders.”
Most teens these days have sleep deprivation, and this limits the ability to learn, concentrate and gain knowledge. This further leads to stress, anxiety, depression and ultimately… Death. Having shorter school days could eliminate stress and anxiety. The average amount of sleep required for teens in 9-9 ½ hours, however most of us sleep for only 7-7 ½ hours. We go through enough as it is, and school on top of that restricts our freedom to discover other interests that are
If students had longer school hours, students would get less sunshine. Less sunshine means less Vitamin D, and Vitamin D is very healthy for your bones. “School in itself takes up around 8 of those hours with travel to and from school and homework. Kids need about 10 hours of sleep. That leaves just 6 hours a day for family life, eating, sleeping, health care, physical activity, developing social skills, learning life skills, participating in extra circular activities and sports, religious instruction, reading and so on.
That one day can relieve the stress of a busy week and make a student feel refreshed. A refreshed student will learn better than a stressed-out student. The same goes for a teacher. A teacher that has had that one extra day of rest can teach better than a stressed-out teacher because a well rested student will be more relaxed, calm, and patient. & nbsp; Although some people may think extending the school week will benefit the education level of the country I think otherwise. Extending the school week could actually hurt the education level of our country. Eliminating time for family, work, and relaxation will affect the attitudes of the students and teachers. Their
