Formula One Racing
Formula One racing, or F1, is known to be the most prestigious type of auto racing in the world.
Unfortunately, in the United States F1 racing is not nearly as popular as other motorsports such as Nascar. On a typical Sunday afternoon if one were to flip channels on the television, Nascar would most likely be airing on a major station. Furthermore, if one were to watch the race he or she would notice that the racetrack was packed with thousands upon thousands of people. A large part of the lack of popularity of F1 in America is that only one race is run in the United States. All of the other races take place in countries such as Spain, France, Italy, and
Canada. With Nascar every single race is run in the United
States, which is obviously a large contributing factor towards its immense popularity. Despite the fact that
Nascar is the racing preference of most Americans, Formula
One racing is the best and most exhilarating type of racing in the world.
The action that takes place during an average 190- mile Formula One race is unsurpassed by any other motorsport. The typical racetrack consists of 2.5 miles and 12 turns. During the lapping of this track, the 900- horsepower 1400-pound cars can reach speeds in excess of
200 miles per hour. Even when cars capable of these speeds are put into the hands of world-class drivers such as
Ferrari’s Michael Shumacher and McLaren’s Mika Hakkinen, mishaps are bound to occur. This is what makes this sport so exciting to watch. Crashes however, are not the only exciting events of the race. It is thrilling to watch a car out brake another in order to squeeze its way ahead, or to watch the cars bump tires in an effort to occupy the same piece of race track to be set up correctly for the turn ahead. Other points of interest are the pit stops and the strategies that the various teams use in order to make a fast pit stop. A world-class team such as Ferrari can refuel a car, change four wheels and tires, and wipe off the driver’s helmet in as little as 6.8 seconds.
The technology used in the sport is another drawing point of its popularity. State- of-the-art computers are used to track the car’s every movement and to mechanically keep
While 29% of nascar fans make less than 30,000 dollars a year. The geographics of nascar is that 40% of their race tracks are in the south and just 15% are in the northeast so their biggest market is people in the south. The SWOT of nascar is that one of its strengths is that it has less risk than it’s competitors do to the fact of the amount of research that goes into the car to keep the drivers safe. For nascar their biggest treat is formula racing because they race all over the world rather than just in the U.S. However, their biggest threat inside america is indycar racing the reason that they are such a big threat is because people that watch indycar are most likely excited that indycars go fast and that rather than just racing on oval tracks they also race on street tracks. One major weakness of nascar is that they are only in the U.S. and they have little fan base in foreign countries. Some of nascars biggest opportunities is that if they were able to go and race in other countries that would provide them with other sponsors and fans outside
People who have participated in racing for the past century, have never been universally accepted as athletes. The drivers, especially those in the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) prove this misconception as incorrect with their intense training and stellar performances. Drivers on social media, assert that they are athletes, contradicting other sports stars who insist that they are not. The drivers in NASCAR and all forms of racing deserve to be given the respect of their fellow athletes in other sports. NASCAR drivers are seasoned athletes because of their training and tough race conditions that they encounter every week on the track.
Take a look at your car, it probably can only hit eighty on a good day. Then watch the top fuel and funny car dragsters of the National Hot Rod Association who get three hundred miles per hour on a bad day. You would be blown away at the diffrence in power. The pure power and the amount of noise that these cars produce will blow you away. I'm going to inform you on a lot of the amazing facts about the nitro powered dragsters of the NHRA. First, i'm going to inform you on how drag racing started and on how drag racing works, then how the dragsters work. Following that i'm going to explain how the equipment keeps the drivers and workers safe, finally I will explain how the sport is evolving,
The causes of the Peloponnesian War proved to be too great between the tension-filled stubborn Greek city-states of Athens and Sparta. As Thucydides says in Karl Walling’s article, “Never had so many human beings been exiled, or so much human blood been shed” (4). The three phases of the war, which again, are the Archidamian war, the Sicilian Expedition and the Decelean war, show the events that followed the causes of the war, while also showing the forthcoming detrimental effects that eventually consumed both Athens and eventually Sparta effectively reshaping Greece.
In the introduction of the scene, the women are gathering for a meeting which Lysistrata request for and she begins to reveal her plan, as women, we can work together to end the war. At the start, Kalonkie, a friend of Lysistrata initiated “How can women do a thing so austere, so political?”(10), immediately women are questioning what qualification women can do to end a war the only skill comprehend is to be a lovely housewife. The notion of women minds dose not expands and believes that they are capable of doing things beyond. As well in this quote, there is emphasize on the word “political” Kalonkie is demonstrates politics is a difficult aspect to understand and is mainly a man’s job. The questions of women do not have the qualify knowledge of fixing such a complex situation. However, once Lysistrata deliberates her plan on a sex strike unhesitatingly Kalonkie speaks “no! I’d walk through fire for you- you know I would!”(10), this immediate response shows women are not entirely supportive of Lysistrata’s plan, and women will exclusive will do anything else besides supporting the sex strike. As well, a scene in the Akropolis women is infidelity escaping so they can go have sexually contact with their husbands. Lysistrata response on this behave was not positive aspect about women “No wonder poets write tragedies about us.” (12), Lysistrata the protagonist demonstrates responses are actually the behavior of what men consider of women. Women are considered only for their sexual desire, to be pretty and sit all day, while allowing the men achieve all the action and heroic stuff. These impressions of hesitance of women are shown throughout in deliberation and see nothing beyond of
The rebellion narrated by Aristophanes is divided in two parts: the old women who take control of the Acropolis, where the treasures of the city were kept and the young wives, who start a sex-strike. But everything has been thought and planned by Lysistrata. She is a young woman, but not a wife. So, she is not part of the group of women she’s leading. She describes herself as intelligent and well educated. The other women instead follow the typical gender stereotype: Lysistrata is ‘annoyed about women’, they care about wine and sex. They don’t accept Lysistrata plan easily and straightaway, but they do so to have their men back (D’Ubaldi). And here we have the reasons of why the women
The Peloponnesian War is the conflict between the pelopoponesians league led by Sparta and the Delian league, led by Athens. Much of our knowledge on the causes and events of the Peloponnesian War, depends on the Athenian Thucydides 460-400 BC, writer of the History of the Peloponessian War. He servd as an Athenian commander in Northern Greece during the early years of the war until the assembly exiled him as he lost an outpost to the enemy. During this exile, he was able to interview witnesses on both sides of the conflicted. Unlike Heredotus he concentrated on contemporary history and presented his account of the war in an annalistic framework that only occasionally diverts from chronological order. In his account, he discuses the precursors to the war, including the 30 years truce and revolutions, such as the stasis in Corcyra. When looking at wars, the primary focus is normally the fighting itself, such as what we see for World War II. However, it is important to look at the anatomy of war, meaning what effect the war has on the people who are experiencing it first hand, and the consquences that the conflict has on the rest of the world. Therefore in this essay I shall discuss, drawing directly from Thucydides, The History of the Peloponnesian War, how the civilians reacted to the war, their involvement and socio economic factors. Furthermore, the first section of my essay shall focus on the direct effect of war on the people, regarding the plague, and violence and hopelessness that was experienced. Then I shall go on to discuss more general effects of the war and how it affected the Greek world, discussing the social and economic losses that occurred such as the cost of the war in attica, the coup d’etat that occurred in gove...
Whether you are an avid spectator of football, hockey, basketball, or NASCAR, you have witnessed a fair amount of violence. In the 2013-2014 football season, at least five different college football players broke their leg, and hundreds of other players at the high school, college, and even professional level have injured a plethora of other body parts in a variety of methods. Hockey is considered one of the most violent sports in the world—the players have violent tendencies and generally release their anger on their opponents—and, unsurprisingly to its audience, results in many injuries. While basketball is not considered particularly violent, audiences are thrilled when they witness almost any sort of injury. Last year, University of Louisville guard Kevin Ware’s compound fracture broke through his skin, exposing his broken bone to everyone around him. Several people took videos of the incident and less than a year later, the video has nearly tw...
The odds that any high school athlete will play a sport on the professional level are about 10,000 to 1. Yet according to a recent survey conducted by Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society, 66 percent of all African-American males between the ages of 13 and 18 believe they can earn a living playing professional sports. That is more than double the proportion of young white males who hold such beliefs. Black parents also are four times more likely than white parents to believe that their children are destined for careers in professional athletics.
Sports is what has molded us into the people we are today. The world of sports is so unique, and people have different interest and fascinations. From being a child I can remember watching the Red Sox and Celtics with my father and becoming a die hard fan for those teams due to my family being serious fans. Not only did watching those games turn me into a good New England fan but it also gave me some good quality time with my father and brothers.
Sports is the center of American culture. In many families, sports is their entertainment. They use sports to show their happiness, anger and physical ability. The United States is known for their sports culture. They have many national sports such as NFL (National Football League) and the NBA (National Basketball Association). People in the United States often choose their favorite teams and become very competitive when their team is playing. At a young age many girls and boys join sports which is where they become competitive, and also where they realize if they like playing sports or not. Once many teenagers get into high school sports become important to them because it is a gateway into getting into college and getting that quick way to reach their American Dream in possibly becoming a famous athlete. Although not all Americans play, watch, or like sports they still know what sports are and there is more Americans who play watch and like sports than people who do not. Sports will always be the center of American culture because Americans love to be competitive and aware of what is going on in their world.
The play was considered comic by the ancient Athenians because of its rhyming lyricism, its song and dance, its bawdy puns, but most of all because the notion and methods of female empowerment conceived in the play were perfectly ridiculous. Yet, as is the case in a number of Aristophanes’ plays, he has presented an intricate vision of genuine human crisis. In true, comic form Aristophanes superficially resolves the play’s conflicts celebrating the absurdity of dramatic communication. It is these loose threads that are most rife with tragedy for modern reader. By exploring an ancient perspective on female domesticity, male political and military power, rape, and efforts to maintain the integrity of the female body, we can liberate our modern dialogue.
Did you think you were going up against a bunch of slave girls? Or did you think women lack gall?” Magistrate replies “Oh yes, they've got plenty of that, provided there's a wine bar nearby." This shows that Magistrate did not believe women were bold enough to stand up to men unless they were intoxicated. Magistrate did not believe that Lysistrata and the rest of the women were capable of taking over Acropolis. However, Magistrate did not strike fear into Lysistrata or the other women because they remained put in Acropolis, and went against rules established by men. Therefore, men such as Magistrate considered women to be inferior, however, women such as Lysistrata were gallant and stood up to
Whether you playing in a tournament or as a hobby, paintballing is a very fun sport. It is growing and becoming more popular every year. There are professional paintball teams that play in a forest for an entire day. Another way is playing indoors in a large room scattered with barricades. There are many different ways to paintball, this is the best way for beginners
Every person has an object, idea, or person who has greatly affected their perception of the world. However, every person’s object, idea, or person is different and unique. Something that has significantly affected my perception of the world is the sport of rugby. The sport of rugby can be described simply with two words: elegant violence. This oxymoron has become a popular phrase to describe rugby by both clothing companies and rugby teams. Rugby, or football to islands in the Pacific Ocean, is a team sport that involves courage, selflessness, perseverance, and grit. Whether rain or shine, warm or cold, big or small, the sport of rugby is enjoyed by millions of people across the world. Furthermore, the lessons in toughness and discipline I received has made rugby very important in my life.
