In the past, I have participated in a lot of classes and training dealing with many different topics, but unfortunately, public speaking and/or communications was not one of them. In fact, the last class that I took even relatively close to this one was while I was in the military. In some sense, I guess that this class could be thought of as a good experience, because now I can learn at a college level and be more at ease with getting up in front of a group of people and giving a presentation.
My goals for this class are fairly numerous, but all are based on all around knowledge and improvement of public speaking in a general sense. I want to be able to get up in front of a group of people and deliver a message in a way that makes people want to listen. I am planning a career in the field of psychology, and as much as I may not like it, I think public speaking will definitely show its face many times. My specific goals for the course include improving on my stance, speaking more clearly, and improving on my fear of speaking in front of a large group.
After reviewing my videotaped speech and also in previous presentations, I have noticed that, among other things, I am constantly fidgeting and doing something with my hands like playing with my note cards or something. Also, I am clearly not comfortable with standing up there. Although it is not overly visible on the tape, I can tell that I look very nervous, and I tend to stutter a little and lose my place and focus in the middle of the speeches frequently. I really do not understand why speaking in front of the class bothers me so much. If I were to give the speech from my desk, even though everyone would still be looking at me, I think that I could do a much better job and would be more relaxed as well.

Advances in welding technology have opened the way for innovative designs in structures and machinery. Of modern welding processes, the greatest number fall under the general classifications of arc welding, gas welding and cutting, resistance welding, and brazing.

Welding is when you join together metal pieces by heating using a blow torch, electric arc, or other means, and uniting them by pressing and hammering. What’s interesting about welding is how structures are built when you are welding. Welding uses a lot of art and designs that amazes you. The topic I’m discussing today is welding.
My Senior project is welding and welding is a manufacture or sculptural process that joins materials, most often metals or thermoplastics, by causing fusion, which is joined from lower moderation of heat metal fusion techniques such as brass and soldering, which do not fuse the base metal. In addition to melting the base bullion, a filler material is typically added to the joined to form a pile of molten material that cools to form a joint that is ordinarily stronger than the degraded material. Pressure may also be used in conjunction with heat, or by itself, to produce a weld. Welding also has a way to protect the filler metals or melted metals from being contaminated.
Welding itself is a fairly simple concept. In the end, two pieces of metal are bonded together. The method of getting there however, is a bit more complex. “There are tons of different welding methods, and more are being invented all the time. Some methods use heat to essentially melt two pieces of metal together… Other methods rely on pressure to bind metal together, and still others use a combination of both heat and pressure”(Atteberry 1). First, let me give you some background information on MIG welding. MIG welding was created in the 1940s and is a type of welding in which a wire is fed through a roller and into a gun. The gun has a trigger that controls the amount of electricity and speed of the wire coming out. Once the wire coming out of the gun touches metal it will create an arc of electricity. A non-reactive gas also comes out of the gun at the same time as the wire. The gas used is 100% Argon or a mixture of CO2 and argon. The gas shields the wire as its being welded. This arc heats up the wire coming out and once cooled down the metal is now conjoined together.

One reason is the fact that it can be used in just about any manufacturing and construction field ranging from making handrails down stairs and all the way to ship building. Welding is a hands on job. Most of the job a welder will do, hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. The minimum requirements for the job are a high school diploma or equivalent, with no work experience and will be required 1 to 12 months on-the-job training until the apprentice program or job shadowing is done. After being interviewed and drug tested a employee is required to perform a weld test chosen by the employer. Multiple welding processes will be used during the line of work. Shielded Metal Arc Welding is also known as stick welding. A Welder who is welding pipe in the field most likely will use this processes. SMAW or stick is metal covered with some sort of flux in order to preserve a weld while it is being made. Gas Metal Arc Welding is a wire fed process that does not require a flux coating but is required some form of bottled gas. GMAW is mostly used for fabrication and other thinner metals. Gas Tungsten Arc Welding is the hardest process of them all. The process is different from all using different metals to combined into one. GTAW constises of a gas mixture of 75% argon and 25% oxygen. Last is Flux Cored Arc Welding, also known as FCAW is a mixture of both SMAW and GMAW. FCAW is a wire fed process like GMAW or mig.
