Best-selling truck of 2015: Ford F-150


With 423,486 units sold by the end of August 2015, Ford Motor Company’s F-150 is the best-selling truck so far this year according to figures provided by auto sales consultants.

For the first time in 2015, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra - GM twins - were outflanked by the mighty F-150.

The iconic Ford F-150 heads up the well-established F-Series line. This series dates back to just after WWII.

Millions of F-Series trucks have been sold since its original conception as a stripped-down workhorse of a vehicle. Today’s incarnation is an extremely well-appointed truck with a range of trim levels priced between $25,420 and a range-topping $54,680.

There are three cab variants (regular, super and crew) with five different trims to accompany them (XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum) so you are truly spoiled for choice. There is a model for everyone’s needs and budget.

The standard 3.5 liter V6 engine is perfectly serviceable but, in driver reviews, the new turbocharged 2.7 liter V6 comes highly recommended. Peppier acceleration is the main advantage. For towing and even greater power, though, the standard power-plant wins. A throbbing V8 engine is also available. Again, the choice is yours making the Ford F-150 a genuinely versatile vehicle.

With 18-25pmg (city/highway), fuel consumption is in line with class and exactly what you would expect from such a truck. The newly-minted aluminum body ensures that the current model is far lighter than its predecessor and makes for very agile handling. A steel frame adds strength.

Critics claim the ride is not quite as comfy as the Ram 1500’s but it is still a fine way to travel. The only real negative levelled at the F-150 are the highly sensitive
