Recommended: Importance of human relationships

In Frankfurt’s essay “The Importance of What We Care About” he talks about the importance of caring and why people actually care for things. After reading Frankfurt’s essay I have come to the conclusion that there are plenty of things in my life that I have come to care and love. To be able to have the chance to love something in your lifetime has a great impact on one’s life. Love for the most part can steer you in the right direction, but that’s not always the case. The love that I share in my life has kept me on a pretty good path so far. My love for things varies but one thing in my life that I have learned to have the most love for is my dachshund, Lilly.
Lilly, my black/brown long haired miniature dachshund, has been a part of my family since 2005. I had begged and pleaded with my parents that year that I needed a dog. It was the year after my cat had just died and to be honest I wasn’t a hundred percent sure how having a dog would go. Cats and dogs are two different animals with two different kinds of routines and schedules. Even though I had begged and pleaded for a dog I still wasn’t sure how I would feel about all this. According to Frankfurt “we are creatures to whom things matter” (80). Meaning that even though my heart was undecided on what I wanted to do, once I saw Lilly for the first time I feel in love with her and knew I couldn’t just leave her there, I knew she needed a loving family to go home to.
After about my fifth time to the pet store I finally got to take Lilly home with me. We proceeded to pack Lilly up and get her ready for departure early. ... one thing that I loved and cared for more than life itself was my dog, Lilly. Caring about her is a life time event and even though it takes up a huge amount of my time the love I have for her makes me realize that I’ve never noticed how much time and effort I put in to her. The love I share with her outweighs the love I have for most other things. When I was younger I tried to win her love but as I got older I realized you can’t win someone’s love you have to gain their trust and respect first and then by the time you gain those you’re on your way to a healthy and loving relationship. Yes I know this is a dog I’m talking about but she is family to me and there is no other I would think of then as my sister and my best friend. There are three things in this world that I love more than life and they are, Family, Friends, and last but surely not least my dog, Lilly.
