In almost every high school throughout the United States, there always seems to be some discontent between the members of the football and soccer teams. One is considered to be the most popular sport in the United States, while the other is deemed to be the most popular sport in the world. The former, football, has more participants at the high school and college level than any other sport in the United States. While the latter, soccer, is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. Although these two sports have some significant differences, they also have more similarities than some people may realize. A football field is one hundred and twenty yards long and fifty three feet wide. It is divided into one hundred yards of the playing field and two ten yard long end zones on each side of the field. In football, there are twenty-two players on the field at a time with eleven of those players coming from each team. It is played with a football that is made of leather and rubber and is filled with air. The players are separated into two different roles, offense and defense. The offensive players’ role is to score touchdowns while the defensive players’ role is to prevent the offense from scoring touchdowns. A touchdown is awarded when the offensive team moves the ball across a solid line at the end of the field before the end zone. After a touchdown is scored the offensive team is afforded the opportunity of gaining an extra point by kicking a football through a field goal post in the end zone. If the offense is unable to gain ten yards after four attempts, then it is a turnover and the ball is given to the other team, but usually a team will kick the ball away if unsuccessful in three downs. The only protective gear soccer players wear are shin guards. Football players, on the other hand, wear a helmet and shoulder pads to protect themselves while getting tackled. The two sports may have their differences but at the same time there are many similarities. They are both physically demanding and require a great amount of work and dedication to succeed on the professional level. Football and soccer players should be able to respect each other and not be constantly arguing over which is the better sport. Everyone will always have their own opinion and fighting over it does not benefit anyone. Football and soccer are a couple of the most athletically grueling sports around, and they help people stay in shape while teaching them the concept of teamwork.
Abstract: High school football in the state of Texas has become out of control. The sport is no longer played for the sake of the school but rather has become a Friday night ritual to these small towns in Texas. The players are no longer just high school kids inter acting in school sports but have now become heroes to these small town communities. Communities simply no longer support their local high school team but rally in pride of their hometown rivalry against another team. School administrators and coaches no longer are teachers and mentors for the kids but are the equivalent to what in professional football are team owners and "real coaches". Parents have become agents and sacrifice their jobs and homes so that their child may play for the right team. Finally the fans, the fans have lost the sense that it is just a high school sport and changed the game to a level of professional sports. I plan to prove and show that for all these reasons Texas high school football has become out of control. It is no longer the game that it was originally meant to be.
To describe football, regulation requires that teams win by earning the most points than the opposing team like shooting hoops in basketball or running to home plate in baseball. During the process of the game, either team will play in offense or defense in order to gain or prevent points. Unlike most sports, the game of football require an enormous amount of physical contact that
It receives much more attention than academics. Football players are often treated like celebrities, yielding confidence, and at the same time creating pressure. High school sports are approached with clashing opinions. Some of these opinions are positive, and supportive of athletics. “Athleticism, among many activities, offers teens a physical outlet to express their troubles, anger, emotions, and other feelings” (Chen 1).
The rules of these similar yet vastly different games are extremely complex, so only the basics are necessary to distinguish the better sport. In football, the primary rule is that you must advance the ball forward by throwing it or running with it. Once a player with the ball is downed, the entire team lines up again, and the ball is snapped to the quarterback. The short pause in-between each down may not seem significant, but it definitely takes its toll on the excitement.
Alzheimer’s disease, named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer, is a disease that is on the rise in America and the rest of the world. People should learn as much as they want about this disease, because as you age, your chances of becoming an Alzheimer’s Disease, or AD, patient increases. It is estimated that approximately 3 percent of Americans between the ages of 65 and 74 have the illness, and more than half of all people over age 85 have the ailment.
In the world of sport, soccer and football with respect to demographic has had numerous controversies. Although both sport are known famously around the globe, for many years fans from both sides are known for asking, is American football same as soccer? What’s the time limit on both sports? What’s the game objective? Do they use the same ball? However they both have similarities and differences which I will be talking about in this essay.
In conclusion, football and soccer have their similarities, but these similarities are superficial. There are many fundamental differences, such as the use of one’s hands being illegal in soccer, except for the goalie when he/she is inside his/her respective eighteen-yard boundary. Another example is the alternation of a team’s offense and defense in football as opposed to the simultaneous effort of the offense and defense in soccer. These differences in rules, rituals, and concepts distinguish these two sports from each other. However, there are similarities, such as the fact that both sports allow eleven players on each team to play on the field at a time. Also, the area where one scores is in the same locations in both sports, the end zones of football and the goals of soccer are on opposite sides of the field.
Soccer has a important place in the history of several countries. It is the most popular sport in the world. I will be exploring soccer’s place in American history and how it has been growing in America throughout the years. I will explore how soccer got to America and how it has spread across the nation. These questions and more will be answered as I explore soccer in America.
Alzheimer’s, the most common form of dementia, is a disease that afflicts more than 4 million older citizens in the US. Alzheimer's is a degenerative neurological disorder that leads to impairments in memory, thinking and reasoning. AD is the most common cause of dementia in older people, and mainly affects people 65 and over. Within the last few years, there have been drugs that can temporarily treat the patients, but it remains a form of dementia that is irreversible. The disease is very hard on both the person who receives the diagnosis and on his or her family and friends. Aside from medical help, those affected by the diagnosis may want to consider counseling and support groups to help them cope.
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the leading causes of death in America and there are currently more than five million people living with the disease (Alzheimer’s Association, 2014). What may be most troubling about these numbers is the fact that Alzheimer’s disease has no current cure. Alzheimer’s disease is a neurocognitive disorder and a common form of dementia that will affects a person’s memory, way of thinking and their behavior (Alzheimer’s Association, 2014). AD typically develops slowly and the more time a person has the disease the worse the symptoms will become. AD in its later stages becomes so severe that people with the disease cannot even do simple daily tasks. Although there is no cure there are still ways to prevent, delay, and possibly treat the disease.
The sport of soccer has overcome many changes through the years. In particular, women’s soccer compared to men’s soccer has gained much notoriety. The widespread knowledge of soccer has spread throughout numerous countries. Soccer began as primarily a men’s sport, but today soccer is considered a sport that both genders participate in. Women’s soccer has changed dramatically over the years with the increase in popularity as well as new style and rules of the game.
A myth about Alzheimer disease says that nothing can be done about the disease. This is not true. Much can be done to assist the person with Alzheimer’s disease to maintain the highest possible level of functioning as long as possible and in providing the highest quality of life.
The new rules to Football are much stricter than they used to be. Some rules that have changed include changes to the Red and Yellow cards, usage of a fourth referee, changing of the ball and cleats, prohibition of physical violence during games, and specific rules and regulations. Before, many people did not play Football with rules, they just played for fun, therefore the invention of the Red and Yellow card greatly advanced the competitive aspect of Football. Along with this, people did not always use the balls and cleats that we’ve used today, they used animal skins stuffed with light-weight materials and regular shoes. Now, professional Football players are required to wear specific kinds of cleats and are required to use footballs that are a certain size and meet the standard requirements. Since many people used to play for fun, there was much violence when it came to who ...
...elopments and deciding to now gain more knowledge about genetic, biological and environment factors do this disease and see if there could be further treatments for these specific areas. But doctors and researches will always explain that there is no full treatment but many various treatments to slow this disease down where it affects the brain the most. By doctors and researchers taking their understanding of this disease further, it can bring family and friends closer together and allow people to fully understand this devastating disease that is effecting their loved ones. It will also allow people to understand with cop with this disease and even treatments will not over come Alzheimer’s disease from taking over. But for now treating this disease will be difficult, due to it can never being able to be fully treated by this distorted disease known as Alzheimer’s.
Currently there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, scientists have also tried to increase the time for which the disease can fully take over the nerve cell connections, however that to cannot be achieved present-day, sometimes if the disease is caught early on it can be slowed down, but it is very rare. They are however developing treatments that may help with the symptoms. Out of about 7 billion people in the world, 300 million are American and the Alzheimer's Association states that, “More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease today” (Stone, “Genetics and Alzheimer's”).
