Football has and will always be a major part of my life. As a child I spent most of my time running around the yard playing football. There was a time when I played football, baseball, and basketball. Then came the moment when I had to choose between those three sports. I chose football to be my only sport at the age of ten. My parents always knew that I would choose football over any sport. I played football from the age of four up to the age of sixteen. My career went well up until middle school. Injury after injury had occurred. Then after hurting my leg it was the end. It all started out at the age of four when my family introduced me to football. Playing football had been a major family tradition. Sports in general is important …show more content…
At the beginning of the game they punted the ball to my team. As I made my way down the field to block I turned around and was blindsided. I was swept off my feet and saw blood flying in the air, from my nose. I felt like life was going in slow motion as I was in the air. I heard the opposing coach tell his player that is what he wanted. I felt broken cause I knew the whole game they were out for my head. We had been losing for most of the game, but we had began to make our way back. We were playing good defense and my cousin was their quarterback, and we both had a lot of family at the game cheering us on. He had a breakaway run and was on his way to score, but me being so competitive I ran him down and tackled him. I had hit him out of bounds at the ten yard line. His team was furious that I had stopped him from scoring. On the next play two of their players had hit me high and low. As I want down there was a crowd of their players around me. As I began to get up their biggest player stepped on my knee and pushed down as hard as he could. I had a sharp pain go through my leg, and as I tried to get up I could not put any weight on my leg. I hobbled around and played the next play and called a timeout. I tried to walk off the field and I took a few steps and fell to the ground. My best friends dad, Tony, came over and helped me off the field. My mom knew something was wrong and the next day I …show more content…
I just got done lifting weights and began to make my way down to the court to shoot some hoops with everyone. That was a day when a lot of people were wanting to play a game of pickup basketball. The game began to get very serious, and me being the competitive guy I would go for every rebound. I went up for a clear rebound and another guy came from nowhere and pushed me while I was in mid-air. I came down on my ankle with all my weight, and I felt my leg just give out on me. I layed on the floor with tears in my eyes because I knew this was serious. My mom came to the school and took me to the hospital. The doctor came out and told me I had torn ligaments and tendons all through my lower leg, and I had a torn quadricep. The doctor told me my chances of playing football again were very slim. As he left the room I asked my mom to give me a moment. I just sat and looked at my leg and proceeded to cry my eyes out. I knew my leg would never really be the same. I had to wear a boot for 10 weeks. During that time I started to think maybe I could give football a try again. I made my way to the field for the final time. That practice nothing felt the same. I was not as explosive as I was. So I knew my career had come to an end. That weekend I told my family I was quitting football and told them why. They were all very supportive of my decision. That has been the hardest choice to make in my life. Letting go of my first love will always be
Football has been a big part of my life ever since I was a little kid. I almost always tried to play football when I could with my brothers if they weren’t busy messing around. During recess in grade school my class would try to start a football game and I would be the first in to be picked on a team. My first time being on a “football team” was in little league my third grade year and I’ve never missed a year yet now that I am a senior in highschool and I’m hoping to continue it in college. Football made the person who I am today, it changed me in many ways and affected how I am as a person.
My 8th grade year around the month of February people were starting to recognize spring football was right around the corner. I was a middle school stud says most coaches I played bandit and sometimes safety full time. Tine seemed to fly faster and faster day by day the team was coming ! Spring had finally come and walking on the I was a pretty favorable upcoming freshman by coaches and players. The first couple of practices were great I never known so much went into high school football but I eventually found out. My knee was hurting a lot my 7th grade year because of ball that
Sadly, my family was going through financial struggles, forcing me out of the school zone I was destined to attend. When I discussed the situation wih the high school coaches they told me they would pick me up from my new house and take me to school every day; with the condition that I’d play football for them all throughout high school. Even though this was illegal I continued to go ahead and accept the offer. My first year of high school was so exciting that it went by in the blink of an eye. Sophomore year came and the clock ticked closer and closer to when everything would change. I started in varsity as a corner back but soon would have big shoes to fill as the team’s quarterback. Not only did this require skill and hard work but the ability and qualities of a leader as well. Ultimately, playing this position helped me acquire traits that would soon be necessary for success. That year was tough for us because the majority of the team consisted of inexperienced players, however the coaches knew I would be the one to lead the
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.
Football is more than just a contact sport. What are often disregarded are the benefits that come from the game. The life lessons that young players learn when playing this game are irreplaceable. It molded me a young man into a wholesome human being. One who applies what he learned in football to the outside world. Football has taught me a lot about myself as well as responsibilities in the work
Everyone has life experiences. Some can be new and fun, like the first time ever going to Disney World as a child. Meeting your favorite movie characters and seeing stories come to life. Other can be tragic, like losing a loved one or suffering a car crash. No matter the experience we all learn from them. I am here to tell you about an experience of mine that I went through at an early age. At the age of 15, I told my parents that I wanted to play football. The sport of football really changed my view on life and taught me that things don’t come easy and that if you really want something, you’re going to have to put in the time and work. One of the many experiences of being in the sport of football is that practice is one of the toughest things I’ve ever went through, physically and mentally. Football taught me a lot about team work and working with others on doing and executing a job. Football made me faster stronger smarter and wiser. I had great coaches who always encouraged me to keep going whenever I wanted to quit because something was too hard or I was feeling
Later we had our first football game and I was excited for my last first game in high school, I never would have known that it potentially could have been my last game played. Within the first quarter I had broken my foot completely and because of my adrenaline I shrugged it off as a minor injury and played the rest of the game. After to what seemed like I was fine I stood up and collapsed as soon as I did so. This was the first injury that I had ever sustained and I was still in denial thinking I had just sprained a muscle. After being told that I wouldn’t be able to play for the rest of the season I was heartbroken, along with this the college that I had hoped to attend the most being West GA dropped me as a recruit. Two games passed and I was feeling helpless for myself, I couldn’t drive, I couldn’t do anything without the help of others, I had crutches but being a 320 lb. man it was very difficult getting around. As Nancy Mairs said: “I’ve been limping along for ten years now” I was off of my feet for 2 weeks and to me it felt like an eternity. This was when I decided to let college aside and all I wanted to do was finish my senior season strong, my mother allowed me to get my cast taken off and have me put into a boot. For the remaining games I roughed it out and played with a broken foot. Even with
...h school I wasn’t a great player. Re-involvement came fairly quick for me because a short year later, this year as a matter of fact, I was asked to be a coach for a local high school team. I was honored by the offer and of coarse I took the opportunity. The fact that my father was the head coach probably had something to do with it, but I was just ecstatic to be back on the football field again, even though I wasn’t the one playing. With this coaching position I’ve experienced a lot of new relationships. From meeting a whole new group of players to other coaches it’s been a learning experience and I’ve already built new friendships that I know will last a long time. But the most important relationship I believe I have built because of this experience is a better relationship with my father. In the past we have had our differences but because of football we’ve been closer than I think we’ve ever been before. Football has proven to me to be worth while. It has taught me dedication, determination, teamwork among others. Football has given me an identity of being a part of team and friendships I will have for a lifetime, especially with the person that means the most to me… my father.
Football started for me when I was three years old. My best friend’s dad was the defensive coordinator for our local high-school team. Football players were always at his house and we were always watching game film. When Anthony and I were old enough to go to school we would go to the practices after school for a few hours, playing, and riding on the sleds as the football players pushed them around. When Anthony and I were about five years old Anthony’s dad gave us some old High-school jersey’s, pads, and helmets. This is when Football started to become a necessity in our lives. One day Coach Williams took Anthony and me to practice and let us tackle the football players. We thought we were something else. Every Friday night Anthony and I were at the football games on the sidelines getting water and tees for the football team. All of our friends were playing football at the end of the end-zone. But Anthony and I were too busy watching the game and doing things for the team. This went on for a number of years until we were in the seventh grade.
Noting that our school is located in West Texas, the weather is very hot during that day and would be hot for most of the cross country season. As a team, we ran the first two miles without any trouble; however, the last mile was quite challenging for us. Suddenly, one of my teammates collapsed to the ground. When my teammate fell, she scraped her knee and injured her wrist. Since our two coaches were not supervising us, we had to call for help. One of my teammates quickly ran to find the coaches who were standing outside of the athletic building waiting for us to finish. Another teammate ran to find a maintenance employee who was located by the softball and baseball locker rooms. Once helped arrived, we were instructed to leave the scene
I had my first experience with the sport when I was very small. At the age of 5 my family brought me to a Nashville Titans game. I still vividly remember the lights, colors and players being at such a young age I immediately fell in love with it. I wanted so bad to be like those 11 men on the field. As I grew older as many things do it began to interest me, it was all around me the games, teams, posters, media football has covered every single part of the country. From college teams to the National Football League, a young American boy simply has to notice.
For as long as I can remember football has been a part of my life in some way, shape, or form. When I was first born my grandfather said that I was solid and built to play football. I used to throw the football with my mother when I was a toddler and she always told me that when I tried to tackle her I hit really hard. My first organized football experience was when I was five. I had just moved to Manassas, VA from Washington, D.C. in 1994. It was around fall and that was right at the beginning of football season in the area. I remember telling my mother that I wanted to play, so she looked for a local organization for children. She came across the Greater Manassas Football League (GMFL) and that is where I began to play the game I love.
The first practice hit you hard we started off with sprints and that was awful people throwing up all around me and I can’t catch my breath but you keep pushing it. I think that was the turning point for me I knew that a lot of people looked at me like small kid that shouldn’t play but after beating them in sprints they saw I was not going to give up. Later on that season it was our 4 game in the season we were going up against Carbondale and we are only up by 6 on defense one of our players go down. I just got off the field on offense they said we need someone I ran to them said I will go in they gave me the nod. When I got on the field it was strange because I never played defense at the time I was just thinking just hit the kid with the ball and you will do fine. The ball snapped so I started back peddling and watching the line men to see if they fire off the line if so it was a run if they backed peddled it was a pass. They fired off the line it was a run so my next thought was where but at soon I was thinking that I saw the running back was coming my way so pushed the receiver off me so it was just me and him. It happen so fast the guy and try to make cut outside but I manage to stick my foot in the ground change direction to tackle him. When I looked up at the time
It was simple, at first thought, my career was over. As I was rushed to the hospital, I thought I was never going to play football again. The pain was so unbearable, that every bump in the road would sent a shooting pain throughout my leg. I was for certain that I would never return the field again.
But we weren’t aloud to play football until 7th grade so I had to wait an entire year without football and I was sad. So me and my brother would go in the backyard and he would just help me practice. Before we could play football we had to get a physically and during that physically the doctor found out that I had a swollen spleen and I couldn’t play any contact sports because if I got hit in the right spot just hard enough it could make my spleen start to bleed and kill me. I was absolutely devastated, I begged my mom to just let me play but she wouldn’t let me risk my life for football. On the car ride home I was silent just thinking about how football was taken away from me and how much time I wasted on it.
