Week 3 features a pivotal Thursday Night Football game between bitter NFC East rivals the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants. It’s been a strange year in the NFC East, the Cowboys have had a plethora of injury issues, Chip Kelly’s offense has been stagnant and the Giants haven’t played an ounce of defense. Washington has been one of the surprising teams in the league and is looking to climb back to the top of their division. So, Week 3 we’ll be traveling to East Rutherford, New York, to MetLife Stadium to witness Kirk Cousins go to battle with fellow quarterback Eli Manning. Here’s my Week 3 TNF preview: Injury Report/Storylines: There are a couple of key injuries going into this week for the Giants. Wide receiver Victor Cruz …show more content…
is someone to keep you eye on closer to game time. On Tuesday, he ran for the first time on solid grass after injuring his calf on August 29th. Most likely Cruz won’t be able to return until Week 4. The Giants’ defense also has a couple of key members missing in action. Jason Pierre-Paul won’t be taking the field due to a recent hand surgery and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie who suffered a concussion in Week 2 versus Dallas. DeSean Jackson is the key fantasy related injury for Washington. Jackson will miss another week after pulling his hamstring in Week 1. Next let’s analyze each team’s strengths and weaknesses going into the contest: WASHINGTON REDSKINS Kirk Cousins, QB Cousins started the year as the backup quarterback in Washington, but Robert Griffin had a horrible Week 1 outing and was injured as well.
This season, Cousins has thrown for 399 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also completed 75.9 percent of his passing attempts and has a 91.1 quarterback rating. Cousins could very well be a nice spot start this week versus a Giants team who can’t stop the pass. So far in 2015, New York ranks 25th against the pass, giving up an average of 20.3 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Alfred Morris, …show more content…
RB Morris has always been a solid option at the running back position in standard scoring leagues.
This season has been a little tougher for him because rookie Matt Jones has taken the league by storm. This season, Morris has rushed 43 times for 180 yards and no touchdowns. These aren’t quite the numbers that fantasy owners want to see out of a guy who was picked to be an RB2 for their fantasy squad. The Giants defense rank 26th against opposing running backs this season, so there is still hope for Morris. Pierre Garcon, WR With the Jackson injury, Garcon is the go-to guy at wide receiver for the Redskins this week. So far this season, Garcon has only caught 12 passes for 97 yards and a score. These aren’t huge numbers by any means, however, this Giants secondary is really banged up right now. This season, New York ranks at 16th overall versus wide receivers allowing 21.1 fantasy points per game. This could very well be the right matchup to get Garcon into your season long lineups. Jordan Reed,
TE Reed is by far my favorite player for Washington coming into this Thursday Night Football contest. He has been plagued with injuries over the last few years, but for now he’s actually healthy. So far in 2015, Reed has caught 17 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. He’s looking really good so far and I believe he’s going to torture this Giants’ defense. This year, New York ranks at 30th versus tight ends, giving up 16.6 fantasy points per game. This is an absolutely perfect matchup to take advantage to play Reed in your lineups. NEW YORK GIANTS Eli Manning, QB Overall, Manning has had a solid start to this 2015 NFL season. After two weeks, Manning has thrown for 485 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. The zero interceptions so far is a big deal for him because over the last two seasons he has thrown a whopping 41 total interceptions. Manning has also managed to complete 61.1 percent of his passing attempts with a quarterback rating of 89. He will be facing a Red Skins’ defense who rank at 4th defending against quarterbacks. Washington only gives up an average of 10.9 fantasy points to opposing signal callers, so temper your expectations with Manning. Rashad Jennings, RB Jennings has had a rocky start to his 2015 season. So far this year, he has rushed the ball just 22 times for 64 yards and a score. Jennings did make a mistake admitting that teammate Eli Manning told him not to score in the final minutes versus the Cowboys in Week 1. This did cause waves in the Giants locker room and Jennings saw a much lesser role in Week 2. He’s still deemed the starter, but I’m not going anywhere near him in fantasy this week. In 2015, the Redskins are ranked 1st versus opposing running backs, which is just another reason to bench Jennings. Odell Beckham, WR Beckham took the fantasy world by storm last season and hasn’t let up at all in 2015. So far, he has caught 12 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown. A lot of those totals came last week versus the Atlanta Falcons where Beckham had an amazing day. This week will be a slightly tougher challenge when he faces off against Washington who is ranked 12 at defending wide receivers. This year, the Redskins allow an average of 17.9 fantasy points overall to receivers, so don’t expect a monster outing from Beckham. Overall, Beckham is the one Giant that I’m willing to put on the field regardless of the matchup, he’s a must-start in Week 3. Larry Donnell, TE Overall, Donnell hasn’t had an impressive start to his 2015 campaign. So far this year, he has caught just seven passes for 49 yards and a touchdown. Donnell is also only averaging five targets per game so far this season, which doesn’t help his cause. This year, the Redskins rank at 13th defending opposing tight ends, giving up around 6.8 fantasy points per game. I advise you all to leave Donnell on your bench and roll with a more reliable option for Week 3. WEATHER The forecast for the game looks very promising with a mid-70’s degree temperature. For now, there’s no chance of rain and the winds should be blowing right at eight miles per hour.
In his three preseason games with the Cowboys, he is 39/50 with 5 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and 454 yards. Even without Tony Romo, the Cowboys don’t look like a complete disasters with Prescott taking over as QB. If Prescott can continue his brilliant rookie form, he can really take over the starting job for the Cowboys and give them some stability and life. If Prescott can play in the regular season like his playing now, with assets like Ezekiel Elliot and Dez Bryant, the Cowboys might be able to turn some heads this season without Tony Romo. Prescott was originally seen as a #3, but now he is #1 and former backup QB, Kellen Moore has taken Prescott’s old role. The Cowboys might also share the starting role between Prescott and Moore if neither can perform in the regular season, until Romo

...onclusion, injuries can change the way a game is played. The team's efforts can be stopped or jumpstarted based on the situation in which the injury occurred. The morale of a team is marginally affected by injuries in garbage time, which is the last 4 minutes of a game, where the team is just trying to prevent the opponent from doing anything. Most injuries cause issues later on in life. Concussion victims often have permanent brain damage, which affects their life after retirement. Injuries not only devastate a player, it devastates everything around them.
Predictions like these can be really obvious even though we are so far away from the preseason. How easy would it be for anyone to pick Fletcher Cox, Jordan Matthews, Ryan Mathews, Malcolm Jenkins, and Sam Bradford for a list of impact guys to look out for? For this reason, I chose five guys who we should be paying close attention to

Kids just want to have fun. In a bygone era, parents wanted kids to play sports for fun and camaraderie. However, a new attitude is developing among coaches and parents, which is mopping-up fun from youth sports. Now it's all about the team and the game. The team must win the game at any cost.
A 16 year old, female high school soccer player, Lindsey Robinson tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) from a soccer game. Interestingly, she was not the only one in her team who injured her ACL, but also several of her teammates have torn the same ligament as well during the soccer season. Lephart (2002) found that women involved in physical activity are more susceptible to acquire the ACL injuries than men who are involved in the same physical activity (as cited in Ogden, 2002). According to “ACL Injury Prevention” (2004), the numbers on female ACL ruptures have been increased for the past ten year. Over 1.4 million women have been suffered from the ACL rupture which is twice the rate of the previous decade. Therefore, female ACL injuries are now a growing problem in the nation (Anonymous, 2004). Back in 1950s and 1960s, female participation in sports was rare; therefore, the rate of injuries was very low. However, according to “ACL Injuries and Female Athletes” (n.d), as Title IX was implemented in 1972, female participation in numerous sports has dramatically increased. Moreover, the rate of acquiring injuries to the ACL also has dramatically increased (Anonymous, n.d). In terms of comparing the rate of acquiring ACL injuries between two genders, females have higher rate than males do. According to the “Physical Therapy Corner” (2007), “women suffered anterior cruciate ligament injuries more often than men, nearly 4 times as often in basketball, 3 times as often in gymnastics, and nearly 2 and a half times as often in soccer” (Knee Injuries section, para.1). There are various risk factors that contribute to the high rate of acquiring injuries to the ACL for female athletes. External factors such as improper sh...
Sports Medicine is a medical field that specializes with physical fitness, treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. It was introduced around the early Greek and Roman era when the first modern Olympic Games took place. The Greek felt they could do something to help heal and prevent injuries that the athletes were receiving. Now in sports medicine, certain injuries can only be assessed and treated by specific physicians. These physicians can include physical therapists, athletic trainers, and strength and conditioning coaches. Although sports physicians are most commonly seen by athletes after they are hurt so they can be treated, there are some physicians that are seen before an injury occurs so that they can learn how to prevent injuries.
With regards to his unpolished demeanor, one can quickly see that Roethlisberger is an inherently aggressive individual, which is evidenced both in his actions on and off the field. As a player, there are few quarterbacks with both the size and speed of Big Ben, and this has caused him to expend himself on the field by taking hits from which other quarterbacks would shy away. This seemingly selfless behavior can be seen off the fiel...
No, there's got to be something going on in that room. Something to keep Arizona from franchising him, something to scare off the rest of the league. "We didn't even have him on our board," says a Redskins exec, whose team needed a receiver this winter and opted to pay Laveranues Coles a $13 million signing bonus. Laveranues Coles? He's half this guy's size and doesn't run any faster.
The number of girls and women participating in all levels of sports has risen greatly in recent years, and the way they play has changed too. Women's sports used to be played by a slow defensive style. Today, the sports are played with speed, precision, and power. With these changes have come increased injuries, and female athletes have higher injury rates than men in many sports. Knee injuries have been rising in female sports. Anterior crutiate ligament (ACL) injuries have become the most common injury in the knee to female athletes. Females are four times more susceptible to injury then men.

The nerves are raging, mainly in his stomach as the butterflies flutter till no end. "Is everything ok? Will everything go as planned?" He couldn't stop thinking about what might happen. Images were racing wild as he thought about his teammates going to battle without him. He couldn't comprehend why he had to let them handle it on their own. He has played with them since they were in eighth grade, and when they need him the most, all he can do is sit and cheer. He hates this feeling of helplessness, but at the same time he knows he has to do what little he can do, well.
