Flight 370: Why are we Still Covering it?
Did you know that many airplanes crash every year and it is not an uncommon occurrence. Most plane crashes are either caused by mechanical failure or by pilots. Depending on the severity of the crash usually shows the outcome of survivors. Out of almost all of the flights that have crashed this year, a flight now only known as Flight 370 was very unusual. On March 8, 2014, a tragic event has happened. An airliner that departed from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had mysteriously disappeared. The plane was a Malaysia Airlines flight numbered 370 that carried 239 passengers. The plane model used by almost all airlines was a Boeing 777. The plane was heading north towards Beijing when the plane turned around

near Indonesia and headed south towards the Indian Ocean. Before air traffic controls, and the worlds eyes we lost an airplane never to be seen again. Several countries had sent rescue parties to the Indian Ocean to find the wreckage of Flight 370. Other than random floating objects that could have come from other airplanes no wreckage was ever recovered from this flight. Although things were found it was not linked to flight 370. It is now 2015 and flight 370 has still not been found. This tragic event caught international news attention from all over the world.
CNN, a popular news outlet in the United States began to covered the event. CNN is not the most reliable news source because they tend to be less facts and more on opinions by the reporters and guests and over reporters who cover big tragic events. Over covering means that one event is only shown on television and not many other major events that are happening at the same time. CNN was considered more of an entertainment news especially when covering flight 370. CNN reporters make up outragoues stories, even stories on how flight 370 disappeared by a possible black hole. CNN is just pandering this flight 370 story for the advertisers and it earned high ratings by gloryfing dead …show more content…
people. When Malaysia Airlines flight 370 disappeared, CNN started to report on it.
Then after awhile, CNN went to every little detail on how, when, or why flight 370 disappeared. This article by Bankoff talks about Don Lemon’s reporting on flight 370. Don Lemon thinks that a black hole was the cause for the disappearance of flight 370. How does a black hole cause flight 370 to disappear? Black holes are in space and the gravity is so powerful that not even light can escape and black holes are not even close to earth. Don Lemon also thinks that flight 370 disappeared over Bermuda triangle and he thinks that flight 370 ended up on some island like the television show Lost. Don Lemon brings in guests for their opinion on if flight 370 disappeared by black holes, Bermuda triangle or end up like the television show Lost. One of the guest named Mary Schiavo said that “black holes will suck the universe, the Bermuda triangle is weather and Lost is just a television series” (Bankoff, 4). This story is silly because why is a black hole even mentioned in the story. It is like CNN is desperate for viewers. Not a single viewer can take the story
seriously. Also the tragic event was over covered on CNN as an attempt to earn high ratings. If an average person turns on CNN around the time the flight 370 disappearance was covered, the only event they will see is about flight 370 and. Most plane accidents get some CNN coverage but not as severe as the coverage of flight 370. There are more tragic events going on in the world and yet CNN won’t cover it. CNN over covered the event just to attract more advertisers. CNN earned high ratings after flight 370 was covered. CNN earned high ratings by just covering flight 370 only because “CNN's use of data to track the habits of consumers online and on TV helped the outlet realize that the plane story had legs “(Abbruzzese, 3). What it means by the plane has legs is that this accident is not like any other accidents because a plane disappear and people want the news to see if flight 370 was found. I think it is terrible for a story to be over cover but CNN loses ratings when they don’t talk about people dying and videos of people killing other people. Airplanes crashes do happen due to mechanical failure or pilots. What planes disappearing to be never found? That is what happened to flight 370. Flight 370 disappeared in the Indian Ocean. The disappearance of flight 370 caught international news attention especially CNN. CNN over covered the event and made up theories on how fight 370 disappeared to earn high ratings. The real concern should be will we actually ever find this airplane along with other lost airplanes to recover the bodies families have lost?
The disappearance of Flight 19 has been the longest standing mystery in aviation due to the fact that no sign
The Colgan Air Flight 3407 was a very interesting case to look at. On February 12, 2009, at 10:17 pm, flight 3407 crashed at a house in New York after the pilots experience a stall. Flight 3407 was scheduled to fly from Newark, New Jersey to Buffalo, New York. The NTSB reported the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) revealed some discrepancies both pilots were experience. The first officer did not have any experience with icing condition but icing was one of the reasons the plane went into a stall. On the other hand, the captain had some experience flying in icing condition. The captain was experiencing fatigue, which indeed, made him unfit to recover from a stall. With that in mind, the Human Factor Analysis Classification System (HFACS) will give insight of some errors both pilots made.
Though a rarity, every once in awhile, planes tend to crash and have serious issues due to problems that could have easily been avoided(183). In the novel the Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, he explains why planes crash and how it can be prevented. He began this explanation by evaluating different plane crashes from airlines basing from Colombia and Korea. In both events, a series of miniature problems and lack of communication was a cause from the catastrophic events that follow. In the case of the Colombian airlines, the already 14 hours and 40-minute flight(Flight Time) was interrupted by a woman having a stroke causing them to land. Since they did not burn all their fuel, they had to “land heavy” or overweight making the landing much more
“The final resting place of the men and their aircraft remains a matter of ongoing speculation, and chances grow slimmer that anyone will ever find them in the nearly infinite expanse of the mighty Atlantic Ocean” which explains how the inability of recovering the remains from Flight 19 have led researchers to take a different approach at researching the disappearance of Flight 19 rather than using only science and rationality to justify the disappearance (Ruffin 242). “Flight 19 is indeed a great mystery, one which has given rise to superstitions of inexplicable magnetic or extraterrestrial forces” which is the main reason for the growth in the possibilities of paranormal phenomena being at fault for the disappearance of Flight 19 (Donnelly). Science cannot always hold the answer to all the mysteries and problems that go on around the world and the case of Flight 19 is a perfect example. Paranormal phenomena is not accepted or even believed to be true by a majority of society but eye witnesses and sightings prove that it could possibly be the key to many of the world’s mysteries such as the disappearance of Flight
Almost everyone in the United States has heard about the small town of Roswell, New Mexico, primarily because of its connections with UFO’s. This crash site became one of the most credible and well known UFO crashes ever. One of the reasons for this is the fact that the U.S military initially reported that they had, in fact, recovered a crashed flying saucer. It was all over the newspapers and radio stations, declaring that the military had recovered a flying disk. Later, the military retracted that statement, saying that it was actually just a misidentified weather balloon, and the news that the military retracted their statement was even larger news than the crash was. (Marshall, Brian) The second thing that made the crash site more controversial is the way the military controlled the evidence. The military collected every single piece of debris from the crashing site and they even took all the evidence that rancher had collected, leaving nothing behind.
When ValuJet flight 592 crashed it raised many questions about airline culpability when aircraft maintenance is contracted.
In conclusion, many contribution factors led to the Crossair flight 3597 crash but is mainly triggered by Crossair’s incapability of assessment, pilot error and lastly the air traffic controller. Analysis of a flight crash is important so that we will know the causes, thus being able tackle it, making sure that there are no other flight crashes like Crossair flight 3597.
On March 8, 2014, the Malaysia Airlines international passenger flight 370, flying from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China, suddenly went off radar and has been missing ever since. Consequently, all 239 passengers and crew aboard have been presumed dead. Nearly two million square miles of ocean have been scoured in the search-and-rescue effort for the remnants of the plane or any survivors, but to no avail. The mystery of the disappearance of the flight has made its way into popular culture and has been dubbed “one of the greatest aviation mysteries of all time,” as it has yet to be solved after several years of searching. A variety of news articles and reports surrounding Malaysia Airlines flight 370 use various techniques and numerous rhetorical questions, as well as present many theories and conspiracies on the disappearance of the plane, creating and perpetuating the mystery of the accident.
The above mentioned airplane was a planned commercial passenger flight that took off from LaGuardia Airport, New York destined for Charlotte Douglas Airport in North Carolina on January 15, 2009. Six minutes after takeoff, the airplane was successfully abandoned in Hudson River after striking multiple birds during its initial climb out. The crew reported by radio two minutes after takeoff at an altitude of 3,200 feet, the Airbus experienced multiple bird strikes. The result of this multiple bird strikes, which occurred in northeast of George Washington Bridge was compressor stalls as well as loss of thrust in both engines. The Airbus was ditched in Hudson River after the aircrew discovered that they would not reach any airfield and turned southward. Fortunately, all the 155 passengers on board survived the accident though the Airbus was partly submerged and sinking slowly.
Vanish. It means to disappear suddenly and completely. When a magician performs his ultimatum trick and disappears from the stage people are engulfed in awe and disbelief. Many people don’t know what to think. How did he do that? Where did he go? Will we see him again? For all these questions people search for answers. They want to figure out how the magician performed his astounding trick. When news first hit the fan about the missing Malaysian Airlines plane MH370 everyone was asking the same questions. Where could a plane go? How did a commercial plane just disappear? Will we see it again? It has been well over a month since the disappearance of the plane and there still are no answers as to what happened. Was the plane hijacked by terrorists? Was it engulfed by an electrical fire? I want to understand why it is so hard locate a missing airliner because in the shroud of mystery surrounding the planes disappearance there are 239 grieving families, waiting to know what happened to their loved ones.
It was the afternoon of July 25, 2000. One hundred passengers, most of them German, boarded the Concorde Air France Flight 4590. This was a trip of a lifetime for many people, as Concorde was restricted to the wealthy class of people. The excitement in people was cut short by the unfortunate delay in flight, because of maintenance in one of its engines. The passengers boarded the plane a couple of hours after the scheduled time. Finally, it was cleared for taxi on runway 26-Right. The pilots lined the aircraft parallel to the runway. A tragic accident, however, was about to befall.
Malaysian Flight 370 Disappearance The 239 passengers aboard Malaysian Flight 370 had no idea what the future had instore for them on March 8, 2014. Malaysian Flight 370 which is also referred to as MH370 was departing from Kuala Lumpur and heading towards Beijing when the plane vanished. The jet had lost communication after just a little over an hour of flying. However, the plane was proven to be flying for another 6 hours after they lost contact.
Flight 370 was an international passenger flight that went missing on March 8, 2014. The flight was scheduled in route to Beijing, but it went missing throughout the second day after the plane took off from Kuala National Airport. At approximately 1:21 p.m., the communications and transponder signal were functioning no longer. There were no emergency calls at the time the plane had its last checkpoint. On March 24 at approximately 10p.m.Malaysia Standard Time, officials ceased the search as radio signals picked up debris found throughout a remote Indian Ocean. It is believed that all of the 239 passengers on the plane died (Preimesberger). From protests and outcries, to mourning and fallouts, it is still a distraught event that shocked the world.
SIGMET stands for Significant Meteorological Hazards. A SIGMET can be issued for one of four reasons. First, severe icing not associated with thunderstorm activity. Second, severe turbulence not associated with thunderstorm activity. Third, dust storms and sandstorms. Fourth would be volcanic Ash. There is also Convective SIGMETs. Convective SIGMETs include embedded thunderstorms, a line of thunderstorms, surface winds greater then 50 knots, hail with a diameter greater then ¾ inch, and tornadoes (SIGMETs, n.d.). In the case of Air Florida Flight 90 there was only a SIGMET issued. The SIGMET was issued at 1340 and was valid until 1740. The SIGMET
was missing and it became the big headline in the news. All sorts of stories were fabricated,
