I recognize myself as an extremely “fit” person; I exercise regularly, I eat healthily, and I am emotionally and mentally strong. These three aspects are how I define fitness. I look at fitness as a triangle: The three corners represent physical fitness, mental fitness, and diet, and the centre of the triangle is what I consider “superior fitness”. Only when all three facets are thriving and a person is in the centre of the triangle model is someone truly “fit”. Mental fitness is a person’s ability to learn and perform new tasks. I am mentally competent, but sometimes it takes me longer than others to acquire and master information, but once it is in my brain it is fairly permanent. Emotional fitness is the ability to cope with stress and stressful situations. In my own life I have not yet had to deal with stress like the victims of the Fort mcmurray fires, but I proven my excellence at managing my day to day stress of school and a heavy extra- curricular schedule. During the semester, I learned a lot on how to deal with psychological distress and how as an athletic trainer I should deal with athletes to overcome their situation and be there for them. Throughout my time as an athletic training student, I always liked to observe my preceptors on how they deal with athletics that are having psychological distress after injuries, and how as an athletic trainer I should handle these situations in a professional manner. There is one situation in particular that occurred during the King’s College football season that I would like to discuss.
