The Case of the Fired Waitress
In business it is important the a company establish some clear order of business when dealing with business ethics. Ethical business practices can build customer relationships. Unethical business practices can cause a business to lose customers. In this case study the reader will be come familiar with the ethical practice of a Red lobster store in Pleasant Hill, Pennsylvania.
Problem/ Issue Identification
A waitress at the local Pennsylvania Red Lobster served a African American couple. The wife order prime rib and was not pleased with the rib or the serve of the waitress. After paying for the meal she submitted a customer comment card in the comment box. The waitress then took the comment card from the box and destroyed it. This incident caused the waitress her job. She was fired.
We can assume from this case that the waitress did not want the incident known. She may have taken other comment cards and have never been caught. We can also assume this is an isolated incident that the waitress made a big mistake. Looking at the ethical issues a comment box should be managed by the manager or higher. Restaurant employees should not have access to this box at all. The store does not have procedures that secure customer comments.
This is related to Consumer Stakeholders and External Stakeholder issues. The major overriding issues a...
At Chipotle, a Mexican fast food restaurant, the customer approached the first station where he ordered a burrito. The first employee asked “What can I get started for you?” The customer then replied with “Andrew will get a chicken burrito.” The employee proceeded then to warm a tortilla and ask the customer what kind of rice and beans he would like. The customer responded in similar fashion, saying, “Andrew will take some brown rice and no beans.” It was then that the customer began to look at the customer with a confused look. She did not say anything, and she continued to keep creating the burrito. When the customer went to the next part of the burrito-creating process (with a new employee), he did not begin his responses with “Andrew will have” but rather stating what he wanted on the burrito (e.g. “pico, sour cream and cheese, please.”). The next employee was the cashier, responsible for ringing up the customer for his food. The cashier asked the customer if the burrito was going to be it for him. The customer responded with “That’s going to be it for Andrew today.” The cashier then acknowledged the customer and then proceeded to check the customer out. Once the checkout was completed, the customer said “Thank you,” and left the restaurant.

Guns, like many other issues of the day, have two distinct opposing views with many people in the gray area. Even when looking at a tragic situation, people will have two opposite spins on it. For example, a suicidal madman on top of the Empire State Building kills six people including himself with a gun. Gun-control advocates think that outlawing guns would have stopped the killing from ever happening. Pro-gun advocates think that it would have been stopped by innocent people being armed and fighting back. In order for an issue to even be at hand, both sides must agree that there is a problem with guns and gun control. Both gun-control and pro-gun advocates do agree there is a problem, pro-gunners say it is too hard to own a gun and the gun-controllers say it is too easy to get a gun. While using a point-counterpoint style to argue against gun control I will show guns are best controlled by good aim. The government must keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals and the mentally ill, and they must not limit the rest of the society from owning them.
Ethics in business is a highly important concept, as it can affect a company’s profits, salaries paid to employees and CEOs, and public opinion, among many other aspects of a business. Ethics can be enforced by company policies and guidelines, set a precedent when a company is faced with an important decision, and are also evolving thanks to new technology and situations that arise due to technology usage. Businesses have a duty to maintain their ethical responsibilities and also to help their employees enforce these responsibilities in and out of the workplace. However, ethics and the foundation for them are not always black and white. There are many different ethical theories, however Utilitarianism, Kant’s Deontological ethics, and Virtue ethics are three of the most well known theories in existence. Each theory is distinct in that it has a different quality used to determine ethicality and allows for a person to choose which system of ethics works best with both the situation and his or her personal ethical preferences.

Unfortunately, gun control has become a huge issue recently. It is a battle between those who fear the power and stronghold that guns have on our country and those who exercise our second amendment right daily. This controversy is not new, nor will it ever go away. as the threat of terror increases, so will the fear. With fear sprouts panic, which leads to more intense laws and major contention between the government and other opposing
The discussion about gun control is far-gone, and America should enact laws that will require gun owners to register their firearms. A background check on every citizen bearing a gun is necessary so that guns do not land in the arms of felons and the mentally ill. Thinking that people can use guns to fight for their liberty is a far gone idea that needs a second thought. However, gun control is not the only solution because it is necessary to educate the population on the risks of keeping guns and asking them to remit the guns at their own will.
Gun Control is a huge controversy in the United States. Side B advocates for stronger gun control or just no guns at all. Side A follows the more traditional conservative beliefs. Southern states believe guns are an essential right, to protection and freedom. Thousands are killed every year because of improper use of firearms. In the U.S there are massive debates on whether or not guns need to be more regulated and restricted. President Barack Obama has even gone as far as issuing executive actions in order to regulate guns more. Obama decided to do this because of Congress’ inactions regarding the mass shootings that have recently happened. This has sparked a massive debate on guns in general which offers answers to the problem like; more

UK has a population of around 64 million people, out of which 87.1% are White and 3% are originally from Africa. Especially from the time of the end of the cold war, England faced great problems with drug usage. Beforehand, United Kingdom passed a ‘‘Misuse of Drugs Act’’ in 1971, which classified drugs by Class A, B and C, as well as set rules on possession and supply or intend to supply of the drugs (1). The differences between those classes were the punishments that followed after a certain drug was found as well as the amount of harm one drug can do. Drugs as Cocaine, Heroin, LSD were placed in Class A. Possession of the drug will lead to imprisonment of maximum seven years and/or fine of £5,000 and higher; intent supply or supply of the drug leads to life sentence maximum and/or fine of £5,000 or more. In Class B, there are drugs as Cannabis, Amphetamine, Codeine and possession of those drugs will lead to imprisonment of maximum five years and/or fine of £2,500 and higher; intent supply or supply of the drugs leads to imprisonment for l4 years and/or fine of £5,000 or more. In Class C, there are drugs as Temazepam, Tranquilizers and Valium. Possession of those drugs will lead to imprisonment of maximum two years a...
Gun control has been a widely controversial topic across the United States. There are many people around the country hold the opinion that perhaps we should ban all guns to make society a safer place. However, I hold a different opinion. My opinion on the topic of gun control is that we should not ban guns, but instead, everyone should be allowed to have one. Allowing the people of the United Sates to carry guns is not only a constitutional right, but it is also a way for people to defend themselves, and help reduce crime in major cities.
This essay will provide two actual case studies: one of positive ethical principles and the other of poor ethical principles. Ethics are the driving force behind good business. Every ethical choice made by a professional can and will have a much different outcome than any unethical choice. Bad ethics can ruin many aspects of a business and as Gaye-Anderson, 2007 states, quite easily the lives and professional reputation of the employees can even be severely damaged. 3.
In the business world there are many fundamental aspects and situations that can lead to several issues. In order to find an optimal and professional solution, business decision makers need to apply moral and ethical standards. And it is at that moment in which business ethics perform its role. Business ethics, which is in charge of examine how companies and individuals should act in business situations, is very essential in order to reach a common agreement and to work within the laws of business and solve an arisen dilemma. Working of the hand of ethical business companies, employees, investors, directors, and even individual officers can be beneficiated and obtain most favorable outcomes.
...al nature of a business but so will customers. A high level of ethics in business should always be in place for customers. The customer should be considered a top priority when it comes to ethical business practices. In the long run, a company will reap great profits from a customer base that feels it is being treated fairly and truthfully. (Ethics in the Workplace, 2006)
Ethical business practices include assuring that the highest legal and moral standards are observed in your relationships with the people in your business community. This includes the most important person in your business, your customer. Short term profit at the cost of losing a customer is long term death for your business.
