Joel Garreau believes that we are moving towards a post-human future where humanity will no longer exist as we know it to. Just as Paul Virilio states that we are becoming the technology. The merging of people and technology will make how we understand what it means to be human no longer applying. There could still be “natural” people but there will also be “enhanced” people relying on the latest GRIN technology to augment their abilities. GRIN technology refers to genetic, robotic, information, and nano processes. The genetic component according to inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil will allow the reprogram of biology away from disease and aging. Genes exist as information, Genes are software; we're learning how to change them. Our bodies are not build for our current society (obesity) our bodies try to hold on to every calorie (Ptolemy, 2009). There might be tragedy to alter our genes we don't fully understand. Millions of years of field testing has created who we are. There are two types of genetic technology. Somatic gene therapy is used to repair genes that do not function properly in a person. Not that controversial because it only changes genes in organs and is not passed on to the next generation (p. 116, Garreau, 2005) . The other is germ-line interventions which changes the genetic makeup on the embryo at it's beginning. These changes will be replicated with every subsequent generation. It is worth pointing out that these changes are not always fully understood or possible to see the unintended consequences. The building block of life is information, DNA, the genetic code. Germline gene therapy is where the correct "good" gene is inserted into the germline in place of the defective "bad" gene, and when reproduction occurs the gene will be passed on to the progeny. Inserting the "good" gene into the very early embryo sta ges of development allows for both germline and somatic cells to be corrected. Genetic engineering or “genetic enhancement refers to the transfer of genetic material intended to modify nonpathological human traits” (Hanna 1). These enhancements are used to modify human embryos and during gene therapy. There are currently two different approaches to gene manipulation, embryo elimination or genetic alteration. The point being, there is a choice of either disposing of an embryo because it has a genetic defect or genetic alteration of a gene which results in removing traits or enhancing them. There are birth defects and fatal incurable diseases that need to be eliminated. Genetic engineering could pave the way to discover ways to eliminate or at least reduce them. Genetic engineering to eliminate incurable diseases and birth defects should be used because it will reduce suffering and pain for both children and their parents.

From movies, pop culture, and recent technological advancements, there is an obsession with robotics and their ability to perform actions that require human intelligence. Artificial intelligence has become a real and approachable realization today, but should be approached with care and diligence. Humans can create advanced artificial intelligence but should not because of the harm they may cause, the monumental advancement needed in the technology, and that its harm outweighs its benefits.
When most people think of artificial intelligence they might think of a scene from I, Robot or from 2001: A Space Odyssey. They might think of robots that highly resemble humans start a revolution against humanity and suddenly, because of man’s creation, man is no longer the pinnacle of earth’s hierarchy of creatures. For this reason, it might scare people when I say that we already utilize artificial intelligence in every day society. While it might not be robots fighting to win their freedom to live, or a defense system that decides humanity is the greatest threat to the world, artificial intelligence already plays a big role in how business is conducted today.

The fairly recent advancement in genetics, called gene therapy, is no exception to the baggage of polarizing views that come with new technology. I don’t think there is any reason for these robots to have every ability that a human does. There is no way they are going to have the intelligence a human does. Artificial Intelligence is just going to bring more harm into our communities. We can’t trust the robots doing the “everyday” human activities, they are going to lead to unemployment, and will lead to laziness causing more obesity.
