The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a drama about the controversial role of authority that children have over their own lives. Juliet, at the beginning of the play is willing to concede anything for her parents. Romeo and Juliet’s progression from obedient to independent is a major factor in the play. If Romeo and Juliet had obeyed their parents, they would not be dead. Juliet would have been married to Paris and Romeo wasting his days looking for love. However, no family feud would have been ended, and no resolution obtained. In Romeo and Juliet, there are three reasons why children shouldn’t always listen to their parents; parents don’t always make you happy, finding your own voice can result in self -confidence, and sometimes children are more willing to forget and forgive.
Oftentimes, parents mean to make their children happy, but don’t know them well enough. A classic example of this is Juliet. When Tybalt died, lord Capulet thought he could fix Juliet’s mourning with a marriage. Capulet sees marrying off Juliet as a way to fix everyone’s problems. In Act 3, scene 4, line 20, Capulet says, “A Thursday let it be-a Thursday, tell her, she shall be married to this noble earl.” What Capulet doesn’t know is his daughter’s heart. She had already been married to Romeo and was not weeping for Tybalt. In fact, she was sobbing over the banishment of Romeo. “Villain and he be many miles asunder. God pardon him! I do with all my heart.” Juliet says in a short aside during Act 3, scene 5, line 83. Lord Capulet couldn’t know of Juliet’s feelings because he wasn’t the kind of parent who would understand. Yes, at first Capulet had every intention of fulfilling Juliet’s dreams, but pride shattered his good-will. “But woo her gentle Paris, get...

...ery feud that brought them together. They died together. In the last Act and scene of the play on line 296, Capulet says, “O brother Montague, give me thy hand, this is my daughter’s jointure, for no more can I demand.” Indeed, there was no better wedding gift for Juliet than peace, but it came too late.
Parents aren’t always right. They love and expect the best from you, but that doesn’t mean they should be obeyed forever. Humans make mistakes, and age doesn’t always entitle. In Romeo and Juliet, there are three reasons why children shouldn’t always listen to their parents; parents don’t always make you happy, finding your own voice can result in self -confidence, and sometimes children are more willing to forget and forgive. Romeo and Juliet’s defiance of their parents worked many great things.

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Did you know that Romeo and Juliet was one of the biggest love story of all time. Romeo and Juliet is a story of two star-crossed lovers from two families the Capulets and the Montagues. The Capulets and the Montague had a big fight that made the families very angry at each other. Romeo and Juliet decide to get married. The two couple marry and run away. In the process both of them will die. When it comes to Romeo and Juliet who are the top three people that caused the two to die. The two people that are chosen are Friar Lawrence and Lady Capulet. Friar was chosen because he is the one that married Romeo and Juliet. Lady Capulet was chosen because she is forcing Juliet to marry Paris which is making Juliet want Romeo even more. The third thing
In “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, William Shakespeare explains the idea that parental support is needed for teenagers. In the play two teenagers secretly get married and then commit suicide. Parents should let their kids do what they want but they can’t let them run loose..The amount of parental guidance in a teens life affects them greatly.
The arguing that both houses continue to let happen influenced the distrust that Romeo and Juliet have in the judgment of their parents, and in fact is why they even must sneak around in the first place. Many events could have of been prevented if not for the actions of the parents. For example, had Lord Capulet not insisted on marrying Juliet to Paris in an attempt to stall her grief, she would not have of become so desperate as to take the potion that Friar Laurence provided that, in the end, led the two children to take their lives. Had the parents taken responsibility the events of the story would never have of
“ A pair of two star crossed lovers take their life.” This quote is made in prologue 7 and spoiled what will happen to the reader, but the reason why or who is at fault is never spoken of. Juliet Capulet, daughter of Lady Capulet and Lord Capulet is a thirteen year old girl who is obedient and wants to do the best on behalf of the family. Throughout the play the reader is given many instances were Juliet’s parents feel obligated to love her. At first they threatened to throw her out onto the streets as in Act three Scene 5 Capulet says to Juliet “Thursday is near lay hand on heart and you be mine, Ill give you to my friend, and you to be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets.”. Even though she obeyed her parents they had high expectations of her to do what was beneficial
Romeo and Juliet are madly in love with each other and will go to any lengths to be together. To support my thesis that the conflict between the heads of the Montague and Capulet families is responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death, I quote from Romeo and Juliet (V, iii, 291-293) Prince: ". Capulet! Montague.
In conclusion, the affect of the relationship largely depends on the quality of communication between parents and children. The parents’ may need to examine their children’s objection, and vice versa. This can be shown in “Romeo and Juliet”, “Her Father” and “My father thought it Bloody Queer”, where all parents have lack of communication with their children. They show their parental love by deciding what the best is for their children; they insist their children to do as they are told. As a result, children attitude begins to change as their parents have neglected their feeling. This causes suffering for parents and children which may end their relationship.
This is my daughter’s jointure, for no more can I demand.”(5, 3, 13-15)Here Lord Capulet is saying that he is sorry for what they’re fighting and loathing has brought to their families; Lord Capulet is extending his hand in friendship to stop the fighting. This shows that Juliet's father loved her enough to stop the fighting. Lord Montague also does his part in trying to right the wrongs that they committed, by saying “ But I can give thee more, For I will raise her statue in pure gold, That whiles Verona by that name is known, There shall no figure at such rate be set As that of true and faithful Juliet.”(5, 3, 314-318) In other words, he is saying that he will make sure that everyone will know how loyal and good Juliet was. By doing this he is showing that he holds no grudge against the Capulets and is being amenable.
upon them, but they have a subtle yet firm grasp on their children’s. lives. They use this grasp to guide, not to force, their children. However, in the time of Romeo and Juliet, the parents had control over the household, the father more so than the mother. They would tell their children how to live.
Through the flaws in the characterization of his characters, Shakespeare allows their weakness to manipulate and cloud their judgment. This fundamentally leads to the outcome of Romeo and Juliet, with each weakness presenting a conflict that alters the characters fate. Being especially true with the star-crossed lovers, William Shakespeare leads their perfect love into tragedy with these conflicts. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and Tybalt all contribute to conflicts that enhance the plot. From destructive flaws in their characterizations, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and Tybalt are all consequently controlled by their weakness, therefore affecting the outcome of the play.
Because of the Friar’s yearning to end the Montague-Capulet feud, the ultimatum imposed by Capulet to his daughter and their superficial relationship, and the Nurse’s support and betrayal, Romeo and Juliet chose to end their lives. The Friar’s desire to end the feud by marrying the star-crossed lovers, and his full confidence in his plans, were unwise and indirectly caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Capulet’s disconnection from Juliet and his ultimatum causes Juliet to consider suicide as a way out of her situation. The Nurse supporting Romeo and Juliet’s marriage, only to betray her later, also contributed to their deaths.
Shakespeare has been known for many plays but one of his most famous is “Romeo and Juliet” which has two teens from rivalling families who fell in love with each other but through misunderstandings and not well thought out plans by their mentors led to both Romeo and Juliet’s death by suicide. There were many ways that these “Star-crossed lovers” could avoid their fate with more thought out ideas and bring more people into their plans, but untimely they died from plans from their mentors. What is the Relationship between Romeo and Juliet parents? Well, Romeo’s relationship with his parents is that they care for him very deeply. His mother was very relieved when he was not at the quarrell in the market.
The two main forces driving Romeo and Juliet together while simultaneously pulling them apart are the Capulets and the Montagues. As is typical with all teenage romance, parents who don’t approve of their child’s love will do everything they possibly can to keep them apart (in Juliet’s case, it’s trying to marry her off to someone else). But while these efforts are noble on their parents’ part, teenagers have a natural tendency to go against what their parents say, especially when it comes to something that will make them happy or their “true love”. In the instance of Romeo and Juliet, whether this was true love or simply lust, the Capulets and Montagues were made to be the barrier between them, causing sad, lovelorn children. Acting as barrier between them also forces Romeo and Juliet to see each other in secret, and Romeo’s walk of shame after their “honeymoon” night was what got Romeo into the whole ordeal with Tybalt later on in the play.
Anna Freud, the founder of child psychoanalysis, once said, “It is only when parental feelings are ineffective or too ambivalent or when the mother's emotions are temporarily engaged elsewhere that children feel lost” (“Anna Freud”). In this case, the children, Romeo and Juliet, get lost and confused, leading to their ultimate deaths. While they cannot live without each other, they also cannot live with each other either, since they end up dying together from all the conflicts piling on top of each other. Since Romeo and Juliet do not really have any parental influence in their lives, they do not know how to resolve their conflict of star-crossed love. Due to miscommunication, conflicting viewpoints between parents and adolescents, and a lack of involvement in their children’s lives, Shakespeare shows through Romeo and Juliet that adults are ineffective in saving their children’s lives.
In Document B, “Think of marriage now”, Juliet tells her mother “ … no more deep will I endart mine eye / Than your consent gives strength to make it fly.” Juliet is telling Lady Capulet that she will only marry the person that her parents approve of. Juliet acts as if she will do what her parents say, which is why they do not take her seriously when Juliet says she does not want to marry Paris and force her to marry him, which drives Juliet to kill herself. Furthermore, Juliet also does not give her parents a reason to why she suddenly changed her mind about marrying paris. Juliet told her parent “ Delay this marriage for a month, a week…” When Juliet says to delay the marriage she does not tell her parents why she wanted to wait, because she did not give a valid reason her parents though she was just being difficult and thought Juliet would get over it and marry Paris. This resulted in Juliet faking her own death, which lead to Romeo and Juliet to take their own lives. Juliet is to blame because she acted as if she had no voice in the decisions that were made for her , causes her parent to overlook her opinion, Juliet also does not communicate why she does not want to marry Paris, which would have resulted in her parents to at least hear her
A Psychological Analysis of Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet was obviously not written to fit the psychoanalytic model, as the theories of Freud were not developed for centuries after Shakespeare. Shakespeare wrote about Renaissance England, a culture so heavily steeped in Christianity, that it would have blushed at the instinctual and sexual thrust of Freud’s theory. However, in order to keep literature alive and relevant, a culture must continually reinterpret the themes and ideas of past works. While contextual readings assure cultural precision, often these readings guarantee the death of a particular work. Homer’s Iliad, a monument among classical works, is currently not as renowned as Romeo and Juliet because it is so heavily dependent on its cultural context.
