Finding Forrester Character Analysis

The two main characters in the movie “Finding Forrester” is depicted as two opposite pictures, one is a high educated, professional writer and other is “a basketball player from the Bronx” as stated by Robert Crawford. These two people seem to be not related but a chance encounter brought them together as well as the passion for writing they have in common. The first impression of William Forrester is a talented and wise but also picky and rude old man, living isolated from the society. While Jamal Wallace is from an African-American society, young and well-known for good at sport instead of academic activity. The relationship of the two is considered developing from formal to informal learning, from one side teaching and learning to the stage

when they learn something from their partner, unexpectedly. At first, it was Jamal who the receiver, being provoked with sarcasm and taught how to start writing. He finally has chances to use his paper to prove himself. The action of Jamal in Forrester’s birthday has open a new path of the main story when audiences finally can complete their picture about Forrester. After all, the old lonely man receives the warmth of friendship, the caring and that helps him to revive himself from the state of living under the stress of regret. The recovery gives Forrester chance to finalize his second novel and hand it to Jamal in the last scene. Furthermore, Jamal broke the ideology and stereotype from people around him, including Forrester at the beginning, about his background.
