My Core Values and Behaviors The core values that I chose for myself are challenges, loyalty, perseverance, adventure, and service. The values above describe the person that I am, as I love a challenge and to problem solve. At my job co-worker will often come to me if they cannot solve a problem. I am always happy to help them solve the problem as I enjoy digging into things and discovering a solution. I feel that each problem that I solve is a learning experience and will help down the road if I or someone else happens to encounter the same problem. Loyalty is also a strong core value of mine and is demonstrated in my life. I have been married for 35 years, which is a strong indicator of the loyalty I portray in life. My friend and colleagues trust me with their secrets, as they know that I am a loyal friend that would never portray them. They often come to me to discuss problems and encourage me to give them feedback on the situation. They know that they can always depend on me to remain loyal not repeat what they have told me in confidence. I believe in perseverance as well. If one wants to attain or achieve something in life, then they must be willing to stay with their goal through the good and the bad times. My example of perseverance is obtaining my education as in 2004 when I started college; I lack the skill that it required to be successful, but did not let in stop me from reaching my goals. I knew that it would take hard work to acquire the computer skills needed, but I persevered through the tough times and learned what I needed to be successful. I am proud of the fact that I have achieved two Associates’ degrees, one Bachelor and am working on my Masters and would have never gotten this far if I had not had the per... ... middle of paper ... ...ese two values were certainly developed in my childhood and carried to my adulthood and will be part of who I am for the rest of my life. Conclusion Although I tried to live, the values that I have described in this paper I am human just like anyone else and have faltered at times. One of many times when I faltered was the time that I was entrusted with a secret of a co-worker and I had to choose between doing what was right for the company I work for and keeping the confidence that I have been trusted with by the co-worker. In essence, I had to decide where my loyalties were and in the end, I chose the company as I felt it was the best choice but it did not make me feel any better knowing that I betrayed this person trust. But I guess that is where the courage comes in as sometimes one will be faced with tough choices and it will courage to make the right decision.
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all. Dale Carnegie believed that perseverance could overcome even the harshest obstacles. Perseverance is inspired by a purpose, an unsatisfied drive to achieve a goal. During a cataclysmic event, only people with a purpose endure.
The next core value I uphold is being honest in the workplace. I speak in a direct matter and I am quick to the point. I do not like to receive fluff from other people. If the doctor doesn’t know what is going, I let them know it is ok to tell me you have no idea. Honesty is very important as it helps me to tell the truth no matter what I am doing. It also helps me keep it as a core value in my everyday life.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines perseverance as the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. In today’s society, there are so many walls and barriers that prevent humans from achieving their dreams and goals and people begin giving up. However, great poets such as Homer and famous music groups such as Mumford and Sons have used the strife of humanity to compose works that can be used to inspire and institute hope for humanity. With perseverance, there are three key aspects, struggle, loyalty, and strength. The struggle is what allows humans to learn, grow, and better themselves, the loyalty demonstrated provides motivation for success, and the personal strength allows the person to build

The values that impact my decisions include: accountability, truth, honor, spirituality, reliability, kindness, ambition, family and compassion just to name a few. My grandfather was a successful business man in the 1930’s through 1980’s. He was a firm believer that you are only as good as your word. He did business with a hand shake and a smile. Teaching his grandchildren that if a man’s word is of no value, neither is he. Furthermore, he taught us the importance of sticking with your fundamental beliefs and principals. The value that is non-negotiable in my life is integrity. I believe it is important to be ethical, honest, truthful, reliably and trustworthy in every aspect of life. I am inspired and driven professionally by compassion, kindness and a belief in healing those that are
If anyone wants something bad enough, there will always be a way to obtain it. One intriguing case of perseverance lies in the story of Poon Lim, who survived 133 days lost at sea; one of the longest times anyone had survived being lost at sea. During the time of World War II, Lim worked as a steward on the SS Benlomond, but the ship sank into the sea after it had been hit by a German torpedo. Lim ended up being the only survivor and spent his time adrift at sea with only limited supplies and his wits to help him survive. Nevertheless, how did one man survive at sea on a small raft alone from the time before Thanksgiving until after St. Patrick’s Day? Lim lived because he powered through his troubles and hardships. Lim luckily yet persistently found a raft with supplies, set up a rain catcher for water, made a fishing line for food, and survived everything that the world threw at him. If Lim just decided to drown due to a sense of hopelessness, fundamentally speaking, the entire course of history would have changed, and he would not have become what people remember of him now if he did not persevere. Perseverance gives willpower to the frail, so that hope can be born inside of them and gives them what they need to make an influential mark as a human
Perseverance is a commonality in everyone’s lives. Every single person that exists persists towards a goal, and every person has persisted a goal for as long as people have existed. However, even though perseverance is common, it is also what makes people stand out the most as well. No person becomes a great and influential individual by half-trying something, and then giving up. Everyone must learn to push through tough times and failure to get anywhere in life. No matter what the situation is, perseverance is the key component for one’s accomplishments and goals because one must try first before they can achieve their goals; whether that goal is survival, being a hero, becoming a dominant administrator, or anything one can desire.
Without perseverance some of these people won’t know how to deal with their problem and just give up. This are some of the reasons on why people think perseverance is so important.
“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” -Babe Ruth. Perseverance; continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition: the action or condition or an instance of persevering. Persevere; to persist in a state, enterprise, or undertaking in spite of counter influence, opposition, or discouragement. Endure, pursue, and persist, are all synonyms of perseverance. Antonyms for perseverance are discontinue, to cease, and to give up. Perseverance is important to have throughout life because people get knocked down and struggle to find their way to get back up. Having perseverance will acknowledge those desperate times when you are struggling to find a purpose to get back up. Everyday people experience times
