Final Capstone Reflection

For my final capstone essay, I wanted to explore a topic that I wondered about since February. The interest in advertising started with the Super Bowl. It baffled me to think about how many times one brief Super Bowl ad could pay the average cost of a four-year degree (about 48 times). This idea prompted me to form my thesis around the effectiveness of advertising. I would hope that if people spend millions of dollars on advertising it will increase their profits, but what I found was quite startling. The bulk of the appeal of my paper is contained in my introduction because an interesting and creative introduction will grab the attention of readers. I allow myself to explore the creativity of the topic first to show the pathos of my paper. Pathos can be an anecdote, vivid language, inspirational quotes, or a combination of the three. The first semester I learned to write more actively, to use vivid verbs, add in dialogue, and not to slack off during the writing process. During the second semester, I struggled with the introduction of sources, organization, grammar mistakes, and transition sentences. In my final capstone essay, I attempted to show off my learned first semester skills and fine tune my recent struggles. After all the papers I wrote throughout the year, I know where my strengths and weaknesses are. My weaknesses are organizing, conclusions, and final editing. My strengths are thesis creation, pathos and logos incorporation, and introductions. I am always attempting to improve my weaknesses and make them strengths and I will keep them in mind as I continue my writing career.
