The Boondock Saints is a great movie for those who like a story line in their action movie. This is not the same fighting enemies action movie you always watch. The Boondock Saints is about two brothers set out to stop crime in the city of Boston. Connor and Murphy MacManus are two Irish fraternal twins. These two men were forced to use self-defense and kill two mobsters from the Russian mafia. This led them to be the city’s vigilantes. They recruit their friend “The Funny Man” who also goes by Rocco. The three start on a crime stopping spree through Boston, Massachusetts. They have tons of action and a little bit of drama to have you always on your seat. The action starts at the beginning when they are in a bar for St. Patrick’s Day when
to Russian Mobsters come in demanding them to leave causing an intense bar fight. The Mobsters become injured and come to the brother’s apartment the next day looking for revenge. The two brothers are against all odds to protect one another and end up killing them, which then leads them to turning themselves in and overnight becoming “saints” to rid the town of all sin. They then start a citywide hunt for under bosses and bosses who have sinned. The drama in this movie comes from their brotherly love. This extends to Rocco, which is their third person the recruited for his knowledge of the inside of the Russian Mafia. Rocco made some mistakes throughout the movie, which could have ruined their whole plan of wiping the city of evil. The three men continue on until they are captured and Rocco is killed. The brothers are overwhelmed with grief, but press on to plan their revenge for Rocco to kill “Papa Joe” Yakavetta which is the Mafia Don. After finding out the man who tried to kill them was actually their father they teamed up with him to kill Papa Joe. They waited till his court date and broke into the court room. After their dramatic scene they caused and their family prayer, they killed Papa Joe. This ended the Russian Mafia. The father-son trio then moved back to Ireland. That is, until the next crime spree arose in Boston. This movie is a great choice for a late night action movie session. There is a great story line to keep you on the edge of your seat and plenty of comedic relief in between, after all Rocco’s nickname is “The Funny Man”. Just don’t forget, if you love the first movie you should watch the sequel, The Boondock Saint II: All Saints Day.
“It is your evil that will be sought by us.” This is exactly what Connor and Murphy set out to do. Fueled by their religion, they set out to rid Boston of evil. The twin brothers seem to be unstoppable. One F.B.I. agent is going to make it his job to stop them. The Boondock Saints is a movie about religion, family, and vigilante justice.
Prompt #1: With respect to Romance At Sea, what was your ordered ranking of islanders (1 through 5) and the adjectives / descriptive words you used to describe your 1st and 5th ranked people? What kinds of connections can you make between this activity and the notion of “social processes in organizations?”
Throughout the film there are two main characters. These two characters are Irish brothers that share a deep sense of their Catholic religion. Their names are Murphy and Connor McManus. Murphy and Connor are two normal men who are put in an extraordinary situation. Connor risks his own life to save the life of his brother. The situation starts out with a bar fight with two Russian mafia members. The Russians lose the fight with the two brothers; the next morning they come after the McManus brothers for revenge. Murphy and Connor kill the two men in self defense and go to the police station. While in the holding cell, they are given a message from a “spiritual force” to rid the world of evil men. The two brothers mutter “kill all that is evil, so all that is good may flourish”(The Boondock Saints) From that moment they devote themselves to a battle between good and evil. Another important character is David Della Rocco, also known as the “Funny Man” or just Rocco. Rocco is a package boy for the Yakaveta family which is involved in the Italian mafia. The head of the Yakaveta family is “Papa” Joe Yakaveta. Papa sets up Rocco in a situation to have him killed; Rocco finds out about papa's plans and decides to join forces with Murphy and Connor in killing evil people. The killings are mainly focused towards men with mafia affiliations. So Rocco tells the McManus brothers who to ki...
The film that interested me for this assignment was “Boyz n the Hood”. The movie was about a Los Angeles neighborhood expanding of drug and gang culture, with increasingly tragic results. It was about how one teen had family support to guide him on the right path in life regarding the social problems around him. The other two teens in the film wasn’t as fortunate and fell into the social problems of drugs, violence, and gangs; where one ended up dead.
The sub genre “Hood Movies” was first introduced in American movies where most of the movies exposed problems with/by/from black protagonists. The movies from this genre are mostly debunkers portraying problems like drug abuse, racial discrimination with blacks, gang rapes, street gangs, hip hop music, Maras, shattered familial problems, illegal immigration, poverty and etc. Most of the films from this genre, typically have a very similar story line like “An urban Black youth facing problems either with poverty or immediate danger in the neighborhood.” This quality present in any movie depicts Hood Films.
What if I told you that I know the outcome of your life and where you will end up before you even know it? Wouldn’t you be scared? See for a regular person who has a supporting family around them this question will almost feel almost like a death sentence. Nobody wants anyone to judge them before they even go through life on what they will end up being.
Gender and the portrayal of gender roles in a film is an intriguing topic. It is interesting to uncover the way women have been idealized in our films, which mirrors the sentiments of the society of that period in time. Consequently, the thesis of this essay is a feminist approach that seeks to compare and contrast the gender roles of two films. The selected films are A few Good Men and Some Like it Hot.
In today’s society, pre-existing assumptions and stereotypes of other ethnicities and individuals play a large part in the way we see others. This social construct of stereotypes has placed restrictions on many people’s lives which ultimately limits them from achieving certain goals. In this sense, stereotypes misrepresent and restrict people of colour to gain casting within the Hollywood film industry. The issue of how casting actors to certain roles and how these actors are forced to submit and represent these false stereotypes is one worthy of discussion. White Chicks (2004), directed by Keenan Wayans, illustrates this issue through the performance of Latrell, performed by Terry Crews, and his performance of the hyper-sexualised “buck” will be a prime example in this essay to discuss the racial politics and stereotypes in Hollywood casting.
Men in Black (1997) is the first installment of a what is currently three total films, with a possible fourth in the making. Since it is a part of a franchise there is a lot of groundwork laid in this first film. We’re introduced to the main Leif Motive, or theme, for the Men in Black agency. What’s interesting is how we are kind of thrown into this film, with minimal background to what is going on. Overall this film has a unique style, a good integration of the soundtrack elements, and places the viewer in this different world where aliens exist.
‘Our interest in the parallels between the adaptation inter-texts is further enhanced by consideration of their marked differences in textual form,’
The movie I decided to analyze for this course was American History X (1998), which stars Edward Norton. Though this movie isn’t widely known, it is one of the more interesting movies I have seen. It’s probably one of the best films that depict the Neo Nazi plague on American culture. The film takes place from the mid to late 1990’s during the Internet boom, and touches on subjects from affirmative action to Rodney King. One of the highlights of this movie that really relates to one of the key aspects of this course is the deterrence of capital punishment. Edward Norton’s portrayal as the grief stricken older brother who turns to racist ideologies and violence to cope with his fathers death, completely disregards the consequences of his actions as he brutally murders someone in front of his family for trying to steal his car. The unstable mentality that he developed after his father’s death really goes hand-to-hand specifically with Isaac Ehrlich’s study of capital punishment and deterrence. Although this movie is entirely fictional, a lot of the central themes (racism, crime punishment, gang pervasiveness, and one’s own vulnerability) are accurate representations of the very problems that essentially afflict us as a society.

The Godfather was a movie released in America in the year 1972. A combination of southern Italian dialects and English was used in this film. This movie was admired by many viewers because of its intense conversations between characters and the very dramatic, action packed scenes. The movie was directed by the very accomplished Francis Ford Coppola. He is a very well-known director that also produces and screen writes films. Although The Godfather is his most known work, Coppola has directed other films including, The Great Gatsby (1974), The Outsiders (1983), and Rip Van Winkle (1984). Sergio Leone was actually the first choice director that the movie studio, Paramount, wanted, but he declined in order to direct his own gangster opus. Peter
