The movie posters mainly serve the needs of movie the makers whose ultimate purpose is to popularize the movie. To create a successful movie poster, designers need to go deeper into them. Therefore, they occasionally create several posters for the same movie. The two posters are for a science fiction movie "Inception,” which may appear to be analogous in the overall mood, but different in colors, fonts, various codes they comprise, etc. Poster 1 The first poster is a popular movie cliché – a silhouetted loner viewed from behind and placed in the center so that he immediately grasps the attention of the audience. Although his face is not visible, we still can assume that he is the main character of the movie as his name is placed …show more content…
It pictures ruining skyscrapers with the dust coming out of them, indicating an inevitable disaster which reminds the viewer an action movie. Right in front of the falling giants, we can see ant-sized people standing on the very edge of the coast, watching the landfall and holding guns as well. It seems like, no matter what kind of weapon they obtain, they are forceless against the uncontrollable power of nature. The camera angle is very appropriate I guess, as it emphasizes more and more the power contradiction human versus nature by exhibiting how different they are in size. Water covering the lower half of the poster does not exemplify the same thing as in the poster of a loner. In this respect, it highlights the insoluble situation, and the building on the farther background, falling directly into the water gives the feeling that the catastrophe is much closer than it appears to be. All in all, one of the main differences between the two posters is that the second one gives much more piece of information than the one with a loner as it provides action and even drama, and the further development of the plot is getting slightly predictable. Poster
Besides an initial voiceover narration introducing Ray Kinsella (Kevin Cosner), his beloved wife Annie (Amy Madigan), and their young daughter Karin, this is the first scene in Field of Dreams, released in 1989 and directed by Phil Alden. The voice-over establishes the expectation of the film as being a sensible story about a loving couple trying to run a family farm in Iowa, and the subsequent scene (pictured above) quickly deconstructs that expectation. While working in his field one night, Ray hears a voice whispering “If you build it, he will come.” From then on, there are no more misconceptions about Field of Dreams being anything but an unapologetic fantasy in which an Iowa farmer mows down his fields to build a baseball diamond where
In order to suit his needs Hitchcock transports the locale of Vertigo (1958) to the most vertical San Francisco city where the vertiginous geometry of the place entirely threatens verticality itself. The city with its steep hills, sudden rises and falls, of high climbs, dizzying drops is most appropriate for the vertiginous circularity of the film. The city is poised between a romantic Victorian past and the rush of present day life. We were able to see the wild chase of Scottie Ferguson (James Stewart) in search for the elusive Madeleine Elster (Kim Novak) and the ghost who haunts her, Carlotta Valdes in such spots as the Palace of the Legion of Honor, the underside of the Golden Gate Bridge at Fort Point, the Mission Dolores, Ernie’s restaurant,
This essay is an analysis of two advertising posters, one of being a modern piece of media, the other being aimed at the previous generation. I will be reviewing posters from Coca Cola and Benetton, the latter being the modern piece of media in this comparison.
The two film posters I will be discussing in this essay are Julius Caesar (1953) and Hail, Caesar! (2016).
The film, Fruitvale Station, is based upon a true story of a young, unarmed African American male, Oscar, who was shot by a Caucasian BART police officer. The film displays the final twenty-fours of Oscar Grant’s lives going through his struggles, triumphs, and eager search to change his life around. There will be an analysis of the sociological aspects displayed throughout the movie that show racism, prejudice, and discrimination.
In 2013, the horror film The Conjuring first aired. The director of this and many other horror films such as Insidious is the talented James Wan. The main characters in this trailer are Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, two well-known individuals in the horror film industry. This trailer is intended for an older audience who likes to be scared. It's not suitable for young children. When watching The Conjuring trailer, one would notice many examples of pathos. These examples included the eerie music, real pictures from the actual Warren family, word clips that come across the screen, and scary pop up scenes from the film. There are a few examples of logos and ethos that are present in the film as well. The visuals in this trailer successfully
The elements of this design include primary and secondary colors, implied horizontal and vertical line in each rectangle. In this design divided this poster into four parts that considered rectangle. From these four rectangles artist used one rectangle for typography and other three used for design. According to designers, the triangles in each rectangle created "MMX" shape. In the top-right rectangle, there is four triangles and each has different colors and each triangles in symmetrical than others. Among all these four triangles, three of them are in yellow, blue, and green color. In the next top left recta...
Posters were mainly used to sway public opinion. They were aimed at brainwashing society to think and act a certain way. Each poster was designed specificly for a particular community, playing upon the cultural norm. Since posters were rather inexpensive, they were not made to last, but were effectively used as a visual tool of propaganda. They were usually very graphic, therefore allowing even the illiterate to be swayed in the direction of the artists choosing.
The film, Out in the Night documents a 2006 case in which a group of young African American lesbians were accused of gang assault and attempted murder. The film portrays how unconscious bias, institutional discrimination and racism contributed to the convictions of seven African American lesbian women. Three of the women pleaded guilty to avoid going to trial, but four did not. Renata Hill, Patreese Johnson, Venice Brown, and Terrain Dandridge maintained their innocence and each were charged with several years in prison. I cried through out the documentary because it dawned on me that it’s not safe for women, especially gay women of color. The four-minute incident occurred in Greenwich Village where Dwayne Buckle sexually and physically harassed
The poster I have chosen contains a young woman holding a gun with a red bandage covering her eyes and mouth and behind her, on the wall is an American Flag painted on with dripping textures. On the American Flag there is a quote which reads, "We kill people who kill people because killing
Lee Daniel’s Precious is a movie centered around Precious Jones, a 16-year-old overweight black girl living in Harlem, New York. The movie begins when she is in public school pregnant with her second child by her father. Because Precious is pregnant, the principle recommends an alternative school for her. At home, Precious is a servant to her mother, Mary, who is physically, emotionally, verbally, and sexually abusing her. Mary constantly tells Precious that she is not good enough and that no one will ever want her. At times of distress, Precious tends to dissociate and fantasize about another life where she is a blonde white girl. She wants to be famous and loved by all. Precious arrives at the alternative school hardly knowing how to read or write. She gets placed in a class of girls with a dedicated teacher, Ms. Rain. Ms. Rain asks each student to write in a journal every day, and she will write back to their letters. This is the first time in the movie when Precious feels very
The book I have read is “Lullabies for Little Criminals” by Heather O’Neill. The poster I have created accurately depicts the story very well because of the visuals and the quotes. There is a girl sitting by herself, observing a city. The girl represents the main protagonist in this story named “Baby”. She is a curious young girl who wants to fit in with society. Baby is pushed around by her peers and has never felt welcomed. Pressure of all sorts take over young girls like her and they believe in order to be accepted and included by peers and society, they must make changes to themselves, as she starts to abuse drugs and alcohol. The picture I have chosen for my movie poster represents Baby because for the most part of her life, she has felt
The composition begins with a grid to create an asymmetrical organization of the elements used. Not only is it eye appealing but it makes the information clear and easy to read. San-serif fonts were also used within the grid design because it is the most legible and good for structuring the information. Josef Müller-Brockmann work “das freundliche Handzeichen” shows characteristics of the International Typographic Style. When looking at it you can quickly see the photo of the hand has hierarchy over the text. The placement of the hand gives movement because it is going off the page. He also uses a limited color pallet which is less distracting. Müller-Brockmann does well with using the grid for the placement of his text. As can been seen in the work, the text running down the left fits in-between his thumb and pointer finger with is visually appealing. Also the way the black and white fingers overlay with the color image makes it merge together rather than just one image on top of another. In like manner, artist Armin Hofmann’s poster shows similar characteristics to Josef Müller-Brockmann. This composition has the same text on the left side along the image, using the grid. Hofmann doesn 't use color so it 's strictly positive and negative space. The dancer in the back is softer than the typography so it gives a good
Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan, was a very complex and interesting sci-fi movie. This movie in particular has a lot of factors playing into the movie. Everyone is able to find their favorite part about the movie, and various people can watch this movie and connect with it. This movie came out in 2014, and shocked millions of people by its intense ending. Interstellar was awarded for best visual effects, and then nominated for many other things including, best original score, best sound mixing, and best sound effects which played a huge role in making the movie. The image and sound complement each other, but I thought that image dominated over sound because there were so many silent moments throughout the movie. I thought the plot
