In the film A Civil Action by John Travolta, several families sued two important companies for the death of their children. The plaintiffs alleged that two companies; Beatrice foods and WR grace, were the source of the deaths due to discarding toxic waste in a river where the town of Woburn gets their water supply. While watching this movie, I watched with astonishment and convinced with the determinations on the plaintiff's behalf to win the case. First, I thought the plaintiff's motive was to win the case for the money, but as the movie transitioned along I perceived that the families only wanted forgiveness from the companies. One of the mothers Mrs. Anderson stated, “Now, I want to be clear. I’m not interested in money, none of us are.
Hocus Pocus is a 1993 film directed by Kenny Ortega. It is a very enjoyable movie with a good cast. The movie genre is comedy, horror, and fantasy. The film is based on a story about Garris and David Kirchner. And it is starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker. The story follows the villainous trio of witches, who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage male virgin. It takes place in Salem, Massachusetts.
In 2012, Scott Thurman published The Revisionaries, a film that illustrates how the Texas edification organization has settled into a modern rise of outmoded, religious, and ideological wiles, with each associate fostering their dogmata’s of both ontological and theological complications in Texas education. Additionally, Thurman’s film also highlights how their programs have had the consequence of retelling critical creeds of America, and how that affects scholastic processes nationwide, for an ample aggregate of people to befall on. Likewise, The Revisionaries congregates on concerns that various scholars acquire conception of in their Texas Government lecture, such as, constituent turnout in Texas, politicization, the Texas learning structure,
In the documentary “The Final Offer” shows a factory in Canada purchased by the GM plant. Weber’s social dynamic is more of institutional insight and sees bureaucracy as an inner working of a company. The documentary over a GM company specifies a working class in Canada that has different levels of power within the organization. Therefore Weber’s view of bureaucracy doesn’t work within this system for many different reasons as will be discussed in this essay.

In the 1950s, French cinema was entirely in the hands of directors of the 1930s, such as Duvivier, Clair and Carné. (cineclub) At the time, filmmaking was an expensive and strenuous process, made exclusively through studios, and required large crews, heavy cameras and elaborate lighting. The strictness and lack of freedom involved in cinema production at the time didn’t appeal to young creators who were more seduced by the immediate possibilities and liberties of literature and theatre. Without Apology is a great documentary based on an autistic man name Alan and how his disability influences in a positive and negative way his family and community in the 1950s. In the 1950s mental institutions had little regulation and believed in fixing the person in order to get to the problem. Communities viewed people with disabilities as out caste and shameful. The film, which was done by Alan’s sister named Susan, main objective was to reveal the emotions and difficulties the family faced with Alan conditions and how changes over time impact the way disability was viewed and treated.
Dystopia is one of the latest trends in mainstream media. Some of the most popular movies of the 2000s are ones that explore post-apocalyptic plots. Examples are the Hunger Games, Mad Max, and the Terminator franchise. People flock to stories grappling with human extinction, social inequality, and survival. In world where these issues are concrete, people look for escape in movies, yet most fall short in addressing how dark society can grow. In order to tap into this trend, the above films follow strict rules to become block-busters. Romance, low causalities, good-looking actors, and happy endings are trademarks of block-buster films. Audiences can leave dystopian worlds behind after two hours.
When delineating between first and second generation American Independent cinema directors there is a fine line separating the two generations. This line usually lies somewhere in the early 80’s when the term ‘American Independent Cinema’ first began to emerge. Many other things that were pertinent to the American Independent Cinema movement also arose such as the emergence of video as a media form. There is a strong distinction in the change of dynamics between film school in the first and second generation of American Independent filmmakers as well. Reichardt exemplifies a strong relation to the second generation, executing these ideas in her films such as Wendy and Lucy and Old Joy.
Newspaper headlines and stories are used throughout the film as transitional devices that drive the plot while relating directly to Peter’s role as reporter. POV shots of characters reading along are used frequently to provide the audience with story information found in these newspaper headlines. Peter first recognizes Ellie from her photo on the front page, setting the story in motion. When the newspaper reads “Daughter of Banker Still Missing!: $10,000 Reward Offered”, Oscar Shapeley threatens to call the police and return Ellie to her father. In direct cause and effect, Peter and Ellie are forced to leave the bus and take off on foot. As the story progresses, the newspaper headlines change accordingly, directly related to the film’s action. The use of newspaper headlines contributes to the film’s unity, providing story information while motivating the characters through the narrative.
Gabriel Cardona Professor Martinez Film Discussion 4 November 24 2015 The world has changed greatly over the last 20 years. Changing the population as a whole, and causing the human race to adapt to these drastic changes. Globalization is a big discussion around the world in today’s society, is it helping, or is it destroying the world. In almost every country in the world you will be able to find this restaurant called McDonald’s, and no matter where it is it will always be projected and taken care of. The video from the presentation shows that she is against globalization because of the unfairness in these big companies like Nike, Old navy, and others that make their products from all over the world for a cheap price in order to gain capital.
The film that I watched was The Big Short. The explicit meaning of The Big Short is that it follows 3 groups of investors who have found a major problem in the United States Housing Market and they take their new-found information and try to invest in their best interest. By doing this they appear crazy and go against the odds for two years and discover the terrible truth that one day our housing economy would fall apart.
In Pickup on South Street, Sam Fuller is able to portray otherwise undesirable characters as protagonists, unlike many films that have been released. By seeing characters such as pickpockets, former prostitutes, and informants in such good light, meaning against communism and even disgusted by it, allows for an anticommunist theme throughout. Additionally, with this more diverse cast of characters presented in the film, a certain representation of society's outcasts is shown, that would otherwise not be present which aids in a connection to a wider audience.
If there is one reason I’m happy I watched this is because now instead of forcing my boyfriend to watch girly disney movies with me, I can show him this. I think that he would enjoy it. I wouldn’t have to watch it because… well you
In the quote On Social Concern, it talks about how people who have a greater share of life should feel responsible for the weaker people and should help them. This reminded me of the Selma movie that we watched in class. In this movie when the African American were walking across the bridge to Selma they were treated brutally. The march was broadcasted and many people felt obligated to do something. Many whites throughout the country came to support the march because even though they had rights, they knew that they had to help the African Americans get the full extent of their rights. These people were putting their lives in danger for a just cause and because of them no one was beaten that day, and many others started paying attention to the
Being a parent comes with different challenges. Some parents believe shieling a child to prevent mistakes he or she once made is good for the child. The film Because I Said So (2007) illustrates this. I chose this film because it models a common problem parents have with their children. These problems range from being too involved in a child’s personal life to lacking boundaries. Although, a parent means well, it may be damaging to the child which is the case in the film. The focus of this paper will be Daphne and Milly both who identify one another as the problem. Maggie and Mae are family members and will play important roles. Jason, Johnny, and Johnny’s father are not members of the family, but have influential roles in the
