In the poem written by Edgar Allen Poe, “Annabel Lee”, he uses various tone words to create the mood. The poem is about a man who loved a woman, this woman got sick and was taken away from him and eventually died. He most likely created this poem about how he loved and lost somebody in his life and therefor used these types of word to convey his feelings. The mood that is overall conveyed by these tone words is powerful and dark. Edgar Allen Poe uses words like kingdom and maiden which are words that make you think of power. The word kingdom that he uses to describe where they are in the poem is a very powerful, it holds a lot of meaning in the word. The word maiden that was mentioned earlier doesn’t necessarily represent power but is a word that sounds more complicated than just saying girl or women. Though the word maiden still means girl or women it represents that they are of more important than a girl. In the poem, he uses the word kinsmen which at first glance looks like a really powerful word, but the word kinsmen just means a man in the family of the person that you are talking about. The word kingdom that was used to represent power doesn’t actually represent power but there is a deeper meaning behind it that you relate with the word. With the word kingdom, you relate that with the people who are in a kingdom which are kings and queens. The kings and queens have a lot of power which is why the word kingdom represents power. Also, other words that are mentioned such as maiden and kinsmen are not powerful words but they are words that are more complicated that are used to represent a simpler word.
