1. Reflecting back on this semester, my impressions on the field of Social Work is that it can be a difficult field to work in. Social workers are not always sure what kinds of cases they might get, and they have to be able to transform something that is negative into a positive manner. However, there are positive sides to social work like being able to decide which practice you rather work in and most importantly, the workers are there to help and deal with all kinds of people from various continuums. 2. One thing that I have learned that has had an impact on myself is that being a social worker requires great empathy. You must be willing to take someone else’s issues and truly make them your own and be able to demonstrate self-awareness (SGS, 2015, p. 161). My ideas and beliefs about the social work profession have changed throughout this course by no longer thinking of it as the association with child protective services and the department of child safety. Social work can focus on CPS and child maltreatment but it is way more than that. I can explain to others that social workers have to abide by a code of ethics. Social work involves a concentration in poverty and other related factors, it requires a commitment in bettering the lives of others through advocacy and attempts to understand others through various means of social justice. 5. I would describe social work to someone else as a career that works with all kinds of people in order to transform difficult and negative situations into ones of positivity. Social work involves occupations that are naturally designed to help people with necessary characteristics such as compassion and empathy. That is to say, social work is centered on addressing issues of poverty, abuse, social injustice, etc. to improve the livelihood and overall health of various individuals all
