The purpose of my piece Feelings Through Flowers was to explore the impact of loss on individuals and their outlook on life, conveyed through the everyday beauty of sunflowers. Themes of loss, growth, and resilience are inspired by Tim Winton's ambition to delve into emotional depths through rich imagery and captivating settings. Written from an omniscient third-person perspective, Feelings Through Flowers fully incorporates all aspects of the characters' lives. Drawing from Winton’s use of syntax to create nonlinear settings, I integrated a flashback to deepen the audience connection and add narrative background. As the narrative progressed, the imagery started to shift toward more negative feelings within the reader. This was employed to illustrate the fluctuating emotions intertwined with the shifting seasons, a journey Dahlia grappled with throughout her mother's illness. Furthermore, the recurring motif of the bench nestled between the sunflowers serves as a tangible reminder of the bond between mother and daughter. ‘Havoc’ inspired me to explore family dynamics and relationships that emotively shape who we are as individuals.
