As Bill Cosby has said, "In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure." When you're scared that you're going to fail it could hinder or motivate you to reach your goals. Fear of failure motivates one to accomplish their goals because of a passion to succeed. The motivation to reach our goals with fear of failure are affected by what we are passionate about and the opportunities we take.
Fear motivates one to reach their goals towards their passion due to being afraid of failing. Michael Jordan has said, "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And

He used that fear of failing and fear of doing what he's done in his past games to improve and try even harder and which that resulted in ample NBA achievements. Similarly, in Richard Preston's, The Hot Zone, shows an example of how fear of failure has motivated one who was passionate about researching the Ebola virus to reach their goals, "It could multiply in many different kinds of meat. It was an invasive life form, devastating and promiscuous. It showed a kind of obscenity you see only in nature, an obscenity so extreme that it dissolves imperceptibly into beauty"(136). Even though the virus was dangerous and fatal, researchers would continue to work with it because of how extraordinary and profound it was. With their fear of failure of death and discover, the passion of researching the virus motivated the researchers to risk it and have the courage to put their lives in danger. Munir Daair in a Ted Talk: Challenging the Fear of Failure, mentions how you'll only end in failure if you let yourself end in failure, "They did not allow the possibility …show more content…
Munir Daair in the Ted Talk also talks about what role failure has when reaching your goals, "The drive to succeed despite failures is what distinguishes the ambitious from the ordinary"(5:36-5:43). What to take from what Manir is saying, is that you must get rid of the thought of failures as a motive to take opportunities and reach your goals. Use that fear of failure as a way to guide you but only as that. Don't think of it as a fear or a reminder of a failure, think of it as a motivator to success. In The Hot Zone, a nurse had showed an example of when fear of failure causes her to miss opportunities, "Nurse Mayinga had been caring for Sister M.E. when the nun had died in the bloodstained room. She may have been splattered with the nun's blood or with black vomit. At any rate, Nurse Mayinga developed a headache and fatigue. She knew she was becoming sick, but she did not want to admit to herself what it was. She came from a poor but ambitious family, and she had received a scholarship to go to college in Europe. What worried her was the possibility that if she became ill, she would not be allowed to travel abroad. When the headache came upon her, she left her job at the hospital and disappeared"(107). What Nurse Mayinga is feared of, is becoming sick with the slithery Ebola virus. Due to that fear of failing to maintain health, she doesn't let
Fear is a powerful emotion. Wikipedia.com describes fear as “an emotion induced by threat perceived by living entities, which causes a change in brain and organ function and ultimately change behavior, such as running away, hiding or freezing from traumatic events.”Most people tend to avoid fearful situations, not realizing that something positive may come out of the event or experience. Victor Villaseñor focuses on the topic of fear in his novel titled Burro Genius. Villaseñor demonstrates to readers how growing up he was extremely fearful of any situation. Victor also tells his readers how he turned his fear into motivation into motivation to keep going and reach his ultimate goal of becoming a published author.
I agree, in my view, fear is very powerful “it paralyzes you from doing the work” , it makes everything seem “harder” or impossible to do when
“…people need not fear the unknown if they are capable of achieving what they need and want" (79). Both protagonist learned about the dangers of fear through the tribulations of their journey. Although life may constantly though curveballs our way, it is important to learn how to take risks. One must to have the audacity to continue on. Odysseus, a courageous Greek hero, would not have made it very far if he was apprehensive of taking risks. Instead, he sought
Fear prevents us from embracing the present moment. While fear does serve as a protective force, as individuals would not consider consequences without it, it also damages an individual’s ability to live mindfully. Fear prevents risk; it prevents individuals from taking risks that could move them from despair to fulfillment. We stand dissatisfied with the present, yet afraid of the unknown.
Fear motivates many people to act upon matters, right or wrong. This emotion has been important in many events in both works of literature, and in the real world. It has forced military geniuses into retreat, and influenced them to plan another method of attack. Fear can be both a positive and a negative acting force in one’s life, a quality that can motivate one to success as well as to downfall.
Fear influences people to make irrational decisions and take extreme measures. Often times, these actions are done to protect one’s reputation. Fear causes people to lie and manipulate to those they care about in order to escape what they are scared of most. Fear of failure has caused higher levels of anxiety, and has made society put blame on each other, rather than owning up to their mistakes. Fear can also cause one to forget one’s true identity and lose one’s values. There are two options that one can take when being faced with a fear: run away from the fear, or go through it and learn a valuable lesson in the end that will make you a stronger person. Fear is a harmful emotion that everyone has to go through in order to succeed.
In the words of Bertrand Russell, “Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom” (Russell). Fear causes many problems in our lives. Fear influences many of a person’s actions and decisions. However, people usually regret the decisions or actions they made out of fear. Also, these actions and decisions can cause problems for those people in their future. Fear is a harmful emotion, for it clouds people’s judgement, disables them from taking action, and causes them to make decisions that they will regret later.
“By facing our fears and overcoming them will make us strong and capable enough to face any challenges in life.” - Anurag Prakash Ray
President Roosevelt once observed, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Nevertheless, people need fear, people love fear and people fear fear for multiple reasons. It fuels society and its decisions in ways that people do not realize. In fact, fear is one of the strongest and most influential emotions people experience. One’s perspective of fear might be vastly different from another, since it provides a unique experience for each human being. Nonetheless, fear, the emotion of darkness, is a weapon that cannot only be used against people by others, but be an obstacle one faces within one’s self.
Fear keeps humans from being stupid. Occasionally human’s detect a unsettling feeling in the pit of their stomach, this is know as the “gut” feeling which often prevents moronic actions which could have unfavorable consequences. This type of fear helps to keep humans grounded, sane, from being to risky. Fear often prevents people engaging in crazy actives, however, on occasion humans are able to overcome fears such as killing a spider, riding a roller coaster, when people conquer there fears it leads to a sense of bravery and confidence which had not been instilled in them before. This benefits the individual helping them to possibly realize they are capable of so
It is very easy to point out other people’s fears than to see our own fears. Everybody has a magic formula that can help other people with their troubles, and they can even help themselves. We know that we are made to help each other. This is how nature itself works; however, no one can help somehow who is letting his own fears stop him. Fears will always be present in our lives; however, no one should let their fears guide their life. Fears can be an obstacle that blocks someone to achieve his/her dreams. The narrator quote that the majority of people are not living their dreams, but they are living their fears. I remember the author Jack Canfield says that, whenever someone is doing something great, the first thing that person has to challenge
We are required to attempt or challenge something new many times in our living, but it usually gets us afraid to do it. The reason why we get afraid is because of the possibilities of failing, and we are subject to overcome those fear for success. For example, skateboard is known as a fun sport, but also a scary sport in general. Skateboarders always try to learn new tricks to improve their skills, or try to film cool videos.
Everyone in life experiences failure. It can affect people positively or negatively and that all depends on how they react to the experience. If one lets their failure overcome their dreams, it will lead them in the wrong path. But if one views their failures as a motive to succeed and grow, then they are on their way to becoming successful. For me, I let my failures in life help build onto my character and define the person I am today. My childhood injury is my example as I let this moment affect the outcome of my dreams I had then.
Clearly failure is not something for you to fear of. Success is good but it usually make you corky and greedy, where failure give you self-realization and self-examination. So do not be afraid of failure, just put everything you have in to what you doing. Sometime you win sometime you learn. Because if you are so afraid of failure and won’t learn from it, you can literally fail your way to success. Like a wise man said: “Even a broken clock is right twice a
It is true that nobody likes to fail and in certain scenarios there's nothing to gain from it, but you always have to remember that you tried. I believe failure allows us to get back up with a stronger motive to succeed. Failure allows us to learn from mistakes and avoid them in the future. Failing is better than not attempting at all, failing is succeeding compared to not trying at all. The overall reason I believe failure is beneficial in our future is that it better prepares us for success and allows us to appreciate it deeply, as we shouldn't take it for granted.
