Fdr's Accomplishments And Achievements

FDR has many accomplishments and achievements during his career as being president. For example, he managed to get a number of bills through congress during his “First 100 Days” program which was placed to grant fast relief to millions of workless men during the Great Depression. He also, created the Tennessee Valley Authority which was put in place to hire hundreds of thousands of unemployed men to work on the rural local projects. Furthermore, he came up with programs which include the AAA, SEC, FDIC, NLRA, and much more. The NLRA protected the livelihoods of the workers and farmers. The SEC and FDIC are still in effect til this day. He has tremendously decreased unemployment from 25% to 2% over his tenure. In the 12 years as president he

did more to change American society and politics than any of his predecessors. This was mainly because of what the circumstances were; the Great Depression and the rise of Germany/Japan which was out of his control. The way he reacted to the situations is what makes him a defining figure in American history. FDR promised that he would make a “New Deal” and he sure did deliver. By doing this he was able to put the U.S. further away from economic, social, and political destruction. He laid the foundation that would come with future stability and prosperity. The New Deal sought to make sure that the economic, social, and political benefits of American capitalism was dispersed more equally through America’s large population. Even with all this the American people lacked the purchasing power to jump start the economy. The only way possible to get us out of this torpor was for the U.S.to enter WWII. By the year 1945, The U.S. had become a global power with responsibilities of a global power. Its new leader both understood the new reality and had the tools at their disposal to shape the world right. FDR also reshaped American presidency. He did this through his “Fireside Chats”, delivered to the people through the new technology of the radio. He built a bond between himself and the public. With all this in mind this is why I think FDR should be nominated as the winner for this award.
