Although humans are fear of the tiger, however, they are willing to look for the ways to kill the tiger because of their selfishness to survive in this world. Fatima’s mother has showed her selfishness by saying that “Somebody has to kill the tiger before it kills us. That’s sense.” (Rajaratnam 102). Fatima’s mother’s desire in surviving caused her to have an evil thought. In her thought, the tiger is the killer which will end her life, so it must be killed before it causes any danger to her. Also, S. Rajaratnam shows humans’ selfishness through Mamood character. To fullfill his desire in hunting, he shot and killed the tiger just simply because the tiger had aroused his hunting spirit, by using his gun, “He’s shot the tiger and they have dragged
the beast home.” (Rajaratnam 103). From this scene, an inference can be made that even though the tiger is killed, they still want to use the corpse to gain profit by selling some of the valueable parts of its body to the others. From the view of the tiger, humans are the monsters who will do whatever things which will bring them benefits. After the villagers killed the tiger, they found three cubs which the tiger gave birth to, “Mamood says that he could sell the tiger-cubs for a good price…” (Rajaratnam 103). Based on the conversation between the youth and Fatima’s mother, it shows that Mamood was a greedy and selfish man who only care about his life without thinking of the tiger-cubs’ after-life. It shows that humans are innately born with selfishness.
The first bill that I chose to track this semester is the House Bill 534, titled, Incest; relationships between relatives; change provisions. This bill has been assigned to the HC: Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. The bill is sponsored by six republican members of the House; Joyce Chandler of the 105th District, Johnnie Caldwell Jr. of the 131st District, Rich Golick of the 40th District, Chuck Efstration of the 104th District, Tom Weldon of the 3rd District, and Emory Dunahoo of the 30th District. The purpose of the bill is to revise current legislation regarding incest. When the legislation was enacted previously, details regarding the types of relationships that are, or should be, illegal were left out. It has come to the attention of representatives that this legislation needs to be revised.
“But I did not want to shoot the elephant.... It seemed to me that it would be murder to shoot him.” (Orwell 95)

In former Civil Rights Activist, Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech “Beyond Vietnam-- A Time to Break Silence”, he asserts that the war in Vietnam is utterly immoral and has a far negative implication, not only for Vietnam but for the United States as well. In this speech, King uses three main rhetorical devices, in order to strengthen his position on this war. The three main rhetorical devices: ethos, pathos, and logos, are universally considered as the three necessary tools of persuasion in literature.
Robert S. McNamara's book, In Retrospect, tells the story of one man's journey throughout the trials and tribulations of what seems to be the United States utmost fatality; the Vietnam War. McNamara's personal encounters gives an inside perspective never before heard of, and exposes the truth behind the administration.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs describes the five type of innate needs listed from the strongest needs at the bottom to the weakest needs at the top level as physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p. 246). Juanita is a 42 year old single mother who has recently decided to go back to school to obtain a degree and become a mental health professional, but she is facing some internal turmoil and some of her needs are not being met. Analyzing Juanita’s situation with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and other concepts, such as the Jonah complex, should help Juanita reach her goals, address the needs that are not being met in her current situation, and strive for
When he finial find the elephant Orwell say “I knew with perfect certainty that I ought not to shoot him.” But when he lays his eyes on the crowd he changes his stance to “but I did not want to shoot the elephant.”(Orwell 199). He felt guilty for shooting the elephant when he describe that the elephant worth more alive than dead, but despite the many reason not to shoot the elephant, he took a shot. Orwell describes “when I pulled the trigger I did not hear the bang or feel the kick …I fired again into the same spot…I fired a third time. That was the shot that did it for him.”(199) the shooting of the elephant represent the Burma people trying to stay alive and over powering by the
The the story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” a hunter washes up on an island, on which he is hunted like an animal for entertainment; these events cause him to have a shift in opinion and perspective throughout the story. “‘You’re a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how the jaguar feels?’ ‘Perhaps the jaguar does,’ observed Whitney. ‘...They’ve no understanding.’”(replied Rainsford). In this quote, Rainsford shows that he has no empathy for the animal he is hunting, no matter the size, actions, or intellect. When Rainsford says that they have no understanding of what is happening, he feels as if this justifies and solidifies his statement of hunting any animal is morally acceptable. “‘But
In the article Human Behavior: Killer Instincts, Dan Jones argues that killing is not so much an instinct as it is a by-product of an event. Say someone has wronged another, by stealing or messing up a romantic relationship. Often the solution that makes the most sense is violence. Believing that they have been wronged, people often seek revenge as their solution. According to that scenario, one can believe that it is human nature to react violently.
In his short story account of shooting an elephant, George Orwell challenges the negligent ideas of imperialism, peer pressures and pride. In Shooting an Elephant Orwell uses diction, and symbolism bring forth the idea that the subjugation of other beings is morally wrong.
Some citizens believe it's ungovernable to control their anger, some believe violent is the way to get others to hear them out. And other citizens believe that violence causes a vicious cycle. And believe two wrongs does not make a right. Leaving other to believe that violence is a physical privilege, and peace is a choice.
In Shooting an Elephant, George Orwell has to decide between killing an elephant who went on a rampage through the streets, or to let him continue roaming in a near by field since he is not threatening to harm anyone at the moment. George Orwell was a non-educated Burma police officer, and was an obvious target for many people in the town. He thought that imperialism, the expansion of a country’s power, was an evil concept. Orwell wanted to forgo his job as a police officer. Then one day he got a call about an escaped elephant that was wondering through the bazaar. Suddenly after hearing shrieks
In the story “Shooting the Elephant” by George Orwell, the main message is about destructive effect of imperialism on both conquers and conquered. Orwell conveys this message through use of symbolism. First, author emphasis himself as symbol of defective colonial rule. Thus, author kills the elephant not to protect people of Burma but to assert dominant status as a ruler. Likewise, the mad elephant represents what is wrong with imperial polices. When elephant raids bazaar and kills coolie; it symbolizes British raiding Burma and oppressing natives. At the end, the death of the elephant shows the downfall of empire in hands of its own soldiers.

Vietnam was a struggle which, in all honesty, the United States should never have been involved in. North Vietnam was battling for ownership of South Vietnam, so that they would be a unified communist nation. To prevent the domino effect and the further spread of communism, the U.S. held on to the Truman Doctrine and stood behind the South Vietnamese leader, Diem.
