How does The Matrix explore fate and freewill?

Fate and freewill remain two ongoing themes in this movie having major significance throughout. The Matrix directed by the Wachowski brother’s developed in 1999, became world famous due to its unique structure and unusual visual effects known as ‘bullet time’ as well as the ‘green tinge’.
The Matrix, is a science fiction action based movie that has one main focus being Neo who symbolises ‘The One’. Fate essentially your destiny and freewill meaning a decision you make under no one’s obligation both are shown throughout different moments in the film. There are some key scenes where these points are evident and where it explores these main themes. Some key relations to this topic are the pill scene, just after Morpheus and Neo do Japanese martial arts known as jujitsu and his visit to the Oracle. This movie has many overall links and will be discussing the major contributions this all had on the overall film.

Fate in The Matrix remains a non-negotiable factor as the world has been pre-programmed every action being predetermined. Freewill, however was visible in small amounts and was valued immensely. In this film, the choice you are manipulated to think in life is a complete illusion as the path of what you are has already been fixed. The true meaning of this is that fate is something that you have no control over, ultimately your destiny.

The Matrix, once being released was a world-famous film that involved a lot of thinking and the ability to interpret complex ideas. However, these two topics of fate and freewill were creatively and smartly submerged in this film. The pill, jujitsu and Oracle scene were three main examples of the effect this all had on The Matrix, however there were a few others scattered throughout the film. It remained to be quite a mysterious concept but gradually as more in-depth thoughts came to mind, it seemed to be quite interesting. By exploring these themes it forces us to think if we are in a Matrix and what are reaction would be like if we were to find out that the world we lived in was a fake, never our true reality.
