Fat Kid vs. The World was a overall good book. First, I picked up the book because I thought the title was hysterical. I enjoyed this book because the underdog (Troy) rules the world. I do connect to this book because I used to be pretty chubby just like Troy. In the book, Troy talks about how he feels about food. I also love food, I eat humungous amounts of food and love each and every bite just like Troy. Also, Troy lost his loving mother when he was child. As a child, my best friend was my grandma but she died before I was eight years old. The book had a few characters that I liked, but a lot of characters that I disliked. For example Yasmine was a character that I disliked. I didn’t like her because she brought pain to Paige’s life. Ideas- The main idea in this book changes all throughout it. There is one idea that goes throughout the whole story which has a protagonist and an antagonist. Charlie is the protagonist. The antagonist… high school. This develops miraculously throughout the book. Starting off with his first day, to the homecoming game where he meets Sam and Patrick, to his last days of being a freshman. “And I’m Patrick. And this is Sam” pg-19. Fat Kid Rules the World is her first novel. She has stated that the idea for the book came to her while riding on the subway in New York. The novel came together quickly which she feels was due to the fact that she began writing just prior to September 11, 2001. She has said that she may have used the writing as an escape from what was going on in the world around her. Part of the book was inspired by the life and music of Kurt Cobain.. Going had just gotten into vintage punk music and wanted to express her interests through the book. The character in her book that was modeled after Kurt Cobain was Curt. K.L Going struggles with self-doubt; this showed through the character Troy. Although she is very petite her feelings of self conscious ness showed her "fat kid" character, Troy.
Analyzing the physical environment, society, consequences, responsibility, and standards of the film Heavyweights gives a greater understanding of what this movie is teaching. The most pressing issue of the film, child obesity, is addressed lightheartedly and left unresolved. Children’s movies such as this teach children how to interact with one another and define roles within a society. Heavyweights teaches much more than what children do at a summer camp.
I have a few likes about the book. One is that it is about rodeoing. I like to read about rodeoing and watch rodeo shows too. Another thing I liked about the book is that parts of it are about surviving in the wilderness. Most of the books I read are about surviving in the wilderness. One more thing I liked about the book is that it was easy reading. I am a slow reader and the easy reading helped to speed the process up.
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.

I really enjoyed this book because it was not a story about the middle of the Second World War. Instead it was right before, when things were not as bad, but they were bad enough. It helped me understand how people lived before the hatred grew and how families were torn apart right from the beginning. Likewise, it gave me hope to see that not everything was destroyed and that some people were able to escape. I would recommend this book more for boys but for girls as well, between the ages of 13-15. Even though Karl’s age throughout the book is 14-17, the novel was written more for my age group. Once again this was an amazing book that I could not put down, and I am sure many others were not able to either.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a topic that was applicable to kids my age and it used a variety of styles and rhetorical appeals to drive the purpose and engage the readers. I would recommend this book to other kids my age to inform them of the serious consequences of such practices like starving yourself.
These kids grow up in the ghetto without a choice of moving somewhere else because of their parents low income, they live in a tough neighborhood and environment & reading this really touches you in many ways. Nobody will ever want to go through something like they did, Parts of the book tell you so much detail that it really puts an image through your head. The book entries mostly talk about the lives of the characters outside of school, The characters also describe the action of their diaries well and they present that action well in the movie.
Fans of the novel like the way you get to see inside Grace and Marty 's personalities, and the way that these two kids are just like any other, if not a little more unusual. You will find yourself glued to the pages until you have finished reading the novel. The adventures will make it so that you only breath about every once in a while and you will like the characters you are reading about, even if you are an adult. The novel is vivid in description and it is almost as though you are able to make a movie of things in your head. One had to do home school after the baby was born, and one now has a tutor who comes to her house weekly since she cannot go to school until the baby is born, but all have received encouragement and love and are finishing school. A girl who does not have the support of friends and family will quit school and will not go back and finish their degree, and will end up homeless or living on welfare. I think this book should be required reading for every middle and high school student. Not only will it show what teen pregnancy is truly like, it will show adolescents what impact rumors and stereotypes can have on an individual. I will definitely recommend it to others. My 16 year old has seen the movie, but I will have her read the book, and I will tell other young girls I know that they should read it too.
My recommendation for this book would be that this book is just a fun read, nothing to serious. But yet it's a book were its easy to relate to were a lot of the situations that happen in the book happen in young teenage life as well. Like for example the desperation to fit in. kids will do most likely anything to be part of "the cool group" hopefully not take some sort of pill that will talk to you in your head. But other things like being pressured into talking drugs. Sneaking out of the house to go to some party and not coming back until the next day at dawn without getting caught. These days we do so much and our parents know so little.
