Louis Althusser quoted, “Ideology is indispensable in any society if men are to be formed, transformed and equipped to respond to the demands of their conditions and existence.” Ideology is a system of ideas and ideals, especially one that forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy. There have been several ideologies that have changed they way the world has been set up but the three that have had the most impact are Fascism, Imperialism, and Nationalism. Fascism came in the 20th century in Germany because of Adolf Hitler. Imperialism came from the European countries during the age of exploration. Nationalism is within every country, nationalism occurs when they take pride in their countries. One ideology that made a huge impact …show more content…
Fascism is extreme nationalism focused mainly on military power to control people. Fascism got its start with Benito Mussolini when he became the dictator of Italy. Adolf Hitler had adopted the way of fascism and applied it to his country of Germany when he had rose to power. Adolf Hitler was a great and motivational speaker that could change the mindset of even the laziest person. When he rose to power he started to speak to his fellow country people because he was tired of seeing his people struggle for food, lack of confidence with the government, and he was tired of his country being in a state of depression. He was telling his people that Germany will rise back to the power they once were before WWI. He promised them a new and improved Germany and he promised to end the treaty that ended WWI, and put the blame of the war on the German people. Hitler’s fascist ways led to him telling his people that the German race is the superior race and no other is superior. He started to tell his people that the Jewish race was holding them back from attaining that …show more content…
Imperialism is a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through diplomacy and military force. Imperialism started when the European countries started to set out and explore the world and came across natives and their natural resources. Some of the countries that were being imperialized were China, Japan, and Africa. Japan imperialized themselves because of the fear of being seized by the european travelers. China was imperialized by the use of the narcotic opium. Africa was imperialized by more than one European country. Africa was “carved up”, this was called the Scramble for Africa. The imperialistic ways of the european countries have had great effects on the modern world today. A way imperialism has had an effect is that modern technology and education were introduced. Another positive effect that imperialism has had is roads, canals, and railways. There were also ways that imperialism has affected the world in some negative ways as well. Africa today is on of the poorest continents there is. When the European countries were exploring and exploiting the continent for their natural resources Africa was getting great attention, becoming more and more industrialized, and more trades were coming. Imperialism also help lead to slavery in America because of the demand of workers from the European travelers. Also it made an impact on it as well because America had grown to be the
Imperialism is a policy by which a country gains power over the world or other countries. It begun in 1865 and it caused US to expand. America had “Thirst for New Market”. The business in The United States was developing rapidly so it needed more supplies (trade) from other countries. The United States used different methods such as Jingoism/Racism, Economic Expansion and American superiority over Europe, but however, economic expansion contributed most for the US Imperialism. This meant more money and power compare to other countries.
Imperialism is the domination of a weaker country by a stronger country. For instance Britain dominated India and China in the mid 1880s to the beginning of the 20th century. Imperialism has had both a positive and negative effects on the countries involved. Britain was imperialistic for many reasons, it could dominate because it had the technology and power to do so. They also needed land to acquire raw materials for growing markets.
Imperialism took place in the late 1800’s through the early 1900’s and it defines one country’s superiority over another. Specifically, The United States practiced imperialism for the desire to strengthen military and create new markets for money. It led to many wars and disputes over countries, heavily in Latin America. Imperialism was not a proper and legitimate policy for the United States to follow.
Imperialism is when a mother nation takes over another nation and become its colony for political, social, and economical reasons. Imperialism is a progressive force for both the oppressors (mother country) and the oppressed (colony), majorly occurring during the late 19th and early 20th century. It had more negative effects than positive effects due to its domination to other nations.
Fascism is one of the great political ideology in the 20th century. It is a kind of authoritarian government that, according to Wikipedia, “considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party or society as a whole.” Two of the most successful and to be in the vanguard of fascism government is Italian fascism – led by Benito Mussolini, and Nazi Germany – led by Adolf Hitler. Fascism in Italy and Germany, though in many regards very similar - have the same political ideologies, still have many aspects to them that make them different from each other.
Imperialism is the practice by which powerful nations or peoples seek to extend and maintain control or influence over weaker nations or peoples. By the 1800’s, the Western powers had advantages in this process. They led the world in technological advances, giving them a dominance when conquering other countries. The European Imperialists made attempts to conquer China and Japan. In this process, they succeeded by influencing Japan greatly. However, they were not as successful with China.
Imperialism is the colonizing of weak peoples by stronger nations and sucking all of the natural resources out of their land. The age of Imperialism was in the late 1800s through the early 1900s. The main region that was the sovereign states in this time period was Europe. Imperialism is viewed negatively because it was enforced with excessive violence. Avatar mirrors the Age of Imperialism and how it was enforced with the military powers at play, the attempt to use economic influence, and the attempt to assimilate native people.
Fascism is defined as, “an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.” Peter Hyland reports that throughout the 1920s and the 1930s, an economic depression was growing and becoming widespread throughout the world. People were losing faith in their democracies and in capitalism. Leaders who gained power supported powerful militarism, nationalism, and initiated the return of an authoritarian rule. J.R. Oppenheimer says that the rise of fascism and totalitarianism in Europe and Russia instigated a “critical step on the path to war.” In 1922, Benito Mussolini held leadership in Italy, promising a proficient and militaristic nationalistic state. During his control as prime minister, he gained a large group of followers, banned the disparagement of government, and used extreme violence against his enemies within the parliament.
Imperialism is a state policy, practice, or promotion of extending power and control. More specifically by directly claiming the land or by gaining the political and economic control of the areas around it. Imperialism has often been seen as ...
Imperialism is the domination by one country of political, economic, or cultural life of another country or region and occurred during the 1800’s in Africa. Imperialism in Africa was caused by four factors in Europe: economy, politics/military, humanitarian/religion, and Social Darwinism (Ellis). The Industrial Revolution in Europe caused the need for oversea expansion because the manufacturers needed things like: rubber, petroleum, and palm oil all of which Africa had. Europe moving into Africa was also caused by nationalism, when France went into Africa so did Britain (Ellis). The difference between France and Britain was the way of rule they used. There are four different methods of imperialism: direct, indirect, protectorate, and sphere of influence. The most popular were direct and indirect. The French used direct, they sent officials and soldiers from France to administer their colonies and their purpose was to inflict French culture on their colonies and make them into French provinces (Ellis). The British, however, used indirect, they used chiefs to oversee their colonies and encouraged the children in the colonies to get education in Britain. The British “Westernized” their colonies and only used military force when threatened (Ellis).
The purpose of this essay is to explain what fascism is and why it emerges.
The concept of imperialism is one that has pervaded nearly every major society or empire throughout human history. It seems to be a natural consequence of societies growing in size, power, and knowledge. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries vast changes occurred in Western Europe (and soon spread elsewhere) that spurred a new round of imperialism the likes of which had not been seen before. The changes were the industrial revolution that was taking place. Countries were rapidly advancing to industrial societies producing much greater quantities of goods at much lower costs. The goods produced ranged everywhere from cotton textiles to military machinery, all of which would play important roles in rounds of imperialistic expansion that would follow. The imperialistic displays by Western European nations also brought about several other industrial revolutions in other regions including the Ottoman Empire, Russia, and Japan. I will take a look at how the industrial revolution encouraged imperialistic expansion, as well as some of the results of that expansion in other regions.
Fascism is a form of government where the leader has complete control over the land and its citizens, in other words it is a dictatorship form of government. Fascism came to be in between 1915 and 1920 in Europe. The first country to take part in fascism was Italy under its leader Mussolini. Following introduction in Italy it rapidly spread across Europe with some of the most notable countries being Germany, Spain, Portugal and Austria.
Throughout history, imperialism has led countries to extend their rule over weaker countries and then colonized those countries to expand their own power. Imperialism allows the ruling countries to use the weaker countries for their resources. Colonizing other countries would then lead to growth and a better reputation for the dominating country. There are many examples of imperialism throughout European history. When many European countries “scrambled” for Africa, it seemed as though Africa had no say in anything. During the 19th century, Europe found a way to use Africa for their own growth and power. Using Africa for their resources, the Europeans colonized Africa without a second thought. European imperialism in Africa had a negative impact because of social disarray, cultural loss, and death it caused.
Ideology is a set of beliefs or ideals that are followed by a group of people or an individual. These beliefs are then used as a format for political or economic systems. An example of one of these ideological systems is Republicanism, which is the belief that a
