In the United States of America, control and access to guns should be limited. In the article “The Case for Gun Control”, written by Fareed Zakaria, makes a very broad reasoning on why access to guns should be limited to Americans. The article explains how Americans are taking advantage of gun usage and how easy it is to access it. The United States has the highest crime rate in the world. Having high crime rates can lead to innocent people losing their lives because of the twisted people who are getting easy access to weapons. Even though there are many laws that are passed to prevent such chaos, the people are not obeying them. Citizens only expect to have a good time with their families. Now, people are very frightened to even go grocery shopping, because of all the twisted shooting rampages that has happened throughout the years. In the article that Fareed Zakaria had written, he talks about how a shooting had taken place in a local movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. The shooter, James Holmes, had ambushed into the theater dressed as the “joker” from the movie “Batman”, with fully loaded guns. Zakaria writes, “Only several weeks ago, we were all trying to understand the twisted psychology of James Holmes, the man who killed 12 innocents at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado” (Zakaria paragraph 1). Nobody in the world would have ever thought to be shot at a movie theater. Citizens of America are terrified of leaving their house knowing that there are crazy people out there that will hurt innocents. The scary part is that the shooters are obtaining these weapons so easily in our nation. Well, they need to think again, because the United States has a very high crime rate compared to other countries around the world. Many people would assume that the United States would be one of the safest places because of our military and stable government, but that is not the case. The gun-homicide rate in the U.S is thirty percent higher than Great Britain and Australia. Both of those countries are very large countries like the U.S. In the article that Zakaria had written it says, “There are 88.8 firearms per 100 people in the U.S. The U.S handgun ownership rate is 70% higher than that of the country with the next highest rate” (Zakaria paragraph 4). After reading the quote, it proves that there are so many people carrying guns out there and is causing crime to our nation. Our crime rate needs to be lowered in order for our nation to have peace. Even though our government is trying to set laws to lower crime rates, it essentially is not changing. We, as a nation need to help lower our crime rate in order for us to live
