Famine Crisis “815 million” worldwide still go hungry every day (Concern USA 1). Some states and countries have no food to eat so are forced to leave and use other coping mechanisms. Syria is in a complex state of famine due to droughts and population displacement.
Syria has many causes to the food famine that is going on. Syria’s most effective cause would be drought in “2006 Syria has had its worst drought in 900 years” (News hour 10). The food production in this country has dropped by “40% since 2010” (Rohrer 3). This caused their farms to die down and also their water to be limited and there food to be expensive. Many people have also been fainting due to the lack or nutrition they are receiving. If they are not eating trash they are eating expired foods, not eating, and even taking their own lives. Even though there is a store house “10 miles” away there bread cost “85 times” more for “25 ounces” (Japan 8). This country has to eat anything they find even if it is off the floor just to survive the day.
This country is having people flee out for coping strategies. Syria is trying to help out as many people in a timely manner to prevent this hunger famine that is going on. In this country “174,500” people have already had to leave due to this hunger crisis (Japan 3). If this country keeps moving people out to safer places with cheaper foods there won’t be nearly as many hunger issues. Everybody is doing their best to prevent their peers from fainting and not getting the nutrition they need.

In this paper, I will briefly give a summary of Peter Singer’s argument and the assumptions that follow, adding personal opinions for or against Peter’s statements. I hope that within this paper, I am able to be clearly show you my thoughts in regards to Singer.
It is important to remember that all this is happening in one of the most endowed nations ever and where tons of food are wasted and thrown away daily. Forty percent of food is thrown out in the US every year. This amount of food worth about $165 billion and is prove that it could feed approximately 25 million Americans. Clearly, United States hunger problems are not caused by a lack of food, they are rooted in poverty and like many aspect in life we cannot address one without also trying to solve the other.

But we cannot forget that these children are wasting away in a disaster that we could - and should - have prevented” she added, “The UN estimates that every $1 spent in prevention saves $7 in emergency spending.” (Dvorak, 2011).

The current number of chronically undernourished people in the world is 842 million. The Food and Agricultural Organization defines chronically undernourished or chronic hunger as “a state lasting for at least one year, of inability to acquire enough food, defined as a level of food intake insufficient to meet dietary energy requirements.” For the purposes of this report, hunger was defined as being synonymous with chronically undernourished. In this report I will discuss the global food crisis from a human security perspective. I will begin by discussing hunger before the global food crisis and further my discussion in the causes of the global food crisis, how states have responded to the food crisis, and what are the best solutions for this crisis from a human security perspective.

May 02, 2013) Somalia was once considered to be one of the most prosperous countries in Africa, but now is considered as one of the worse. How did this horrible transition occur to such a prosperous country? This horrendous result is due to the famine, lack of resources, and lack of trade. Oxfam International states, “Famines result from a combination “triple failure” ("Famine in Somalia: causes and solutions"). This triple failure includes production, access, and response failures. Somalia has been the victim of a two-year drought. Oxfam International states, “particularly in the expectation of the next harvest being 50% of normal.” ("Famine in Somalia: causes and solutions") Because Somalia cannot feed its people, this issue creates malnutrition and affects all ages, especially the young. This is a massive problem in their economic system. The young die too early, therefore creating a gap in the age distribution, which can affect Somalia’s work force in the future. This could also make the economic system weaker. If the only people living in Somalia are old, then there will not be any work done. One reason that they die so young is because of the lack of food. The availability of the food is minimal. Oxfam International states, “The drought has killed off the pastoralists’ prime livestock assets (up to 90% animal mortality in some areas), slashing further their purchasing power.” ("Famine in Somalia: causes and solutions") Somalia ‘s access to its food is limited because the people of Somalia cannot feed their animals. Currently, the largest cause of refugees is the Syrian civil war, which has displaced over 2.1 million people. As a country of relative wealth, the United States should be able to provide refuge for many refugees, as well as provide monetary support to the refugees that they are not able to receive. Countries surrounding Syria, such as Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq have taken in the vast majority of Syrian refugees. In some countries, such as Lebanon, Syrian refugees make up over a quarter of the population. This causes extreme economic strain on a country, and can greatly increase the amount of poverty that is seen there.

World hunger is the malnutrition and under nutrition in a country. World hunger is a problem mostly in still developing countries such as some places in Africa. There are two issues that must be taken into consideration when evaluating the progress in ridding the world of hunger: estimations of hunger, and goals set. Depending on the source where the information is gotten from, world hunger is either increasing or decreasing. For right now the information is most likely estimations because many of these countries do not have sable, reliable governments that keep track of everything.
The main reason why there are lots of hunger crisis in Somalia is because of the natural resources were destroyed by the civil war. Another reason is numerous amounts of drought and flooding. But one of the main reasons that Somalia is hungry is poverty. Their per capita GDP per year is $500. Since their natural resources were destroyed by the civil war, they can’t grow sufficient food. So, the food gets transported from other countries the food prices increases every day. Many people in the country are poverty that means that they can’t buy enough food to feed themselves because it is too expensive. The second hungriest country in the world is Haiti. Some problem it faces that leads to hunger is 80 percent of people live in poverty. Most of their natural resources were destroyed by hurricanes, floods, and tropical storms. In developed countries, such as the United States, poverty is the number one cause of starvation. In other countries, lack of agriculture might be the case. Some places don’t have fertile soil, or have rocky hills, which make it hard to grow crops. In other places, there might not be a suitable climate for crop growing. With economic difficulties, countries may not have enough money to import food. If a nation is in war, then people might not be able to get food safely or are being starved by the opponents.
